Moth stood on the side of Ari’s fencing strip, a little distance behind the trainer, and waited until Ari could see him. He struck a pose he might have when dancing with other fae, twisting the upper half of his body and tilting to the side. He fluttered his hands beside each of his ears, sticking his tongue out.

Had the same thought! I fully intend to try drawing him like that. Too busy today but might try drawing him tomorrow.

The best thing about training with Sir. Drimel was his near silence. What the man did say was never more than a few words at a time and purely for instruction.
Neither of them had time for anything else.
Blood thrummed in his veins. Breath came in gulps. This was their sixth round already and warmth pulled down to his fingertips. Ari was alive.
Until you stand around like a fool. Focus. Sir Drimel’s next thrust nearly made contact. Ari clamped his left hand down on the retreating weapon and stepped into Sir Drimel’s space.
But the sword master knew that trick as well. He broke the boy’s hold before Ari could finish the steal. Ari feignted out of the way.
A golden yellow figure appeared behind Drimel.

Doesn’t matter right now. He raised his sword to meet another attack. His mouth tasted of metal. His lip was stinging.
Ah, brilliant, you bit yourself.
He clenched his teeth and pushed Drimel back…but the infuriating man held up a hand. Ari glowered, but lowered his sword.
“It’s my fault.” He brushed a knuckle over his mouth. It came away red.
Drimel shrugged. “First blood.”
“Who dies from a split lip?” Ari’s glower darkened. The sword master just shrugged again as if the matter were closed and turned to gather his gear.
Fine. They’d sparred enough as it was. He wiped the back of his hand on his tunic.
And there was the golden fairy king looking…odd. Ari dropped his training sword on a table.
“Ah, Firefly. Vélaldë alima. Are you mad?”

He leaned against the weapon table and folded his arms. After a moment of studying the fuzzy golden fairy, he looked over at the boy beside Moth.
“And I thought humans were strange.”
