Oh, Wilhelm gets adventure. Loads of it, right in his face.
The difference between him and Wolfgang, is that Wilhelm honestly tries to avoid trouble. Trouble simply doesn’t avoid him.

“Explosives.” Wilhelm pulled his dagger out and began sharpening it absently. “Delightful! You can do that adventure with someone else. Not that I am against adventures,” He waved his knife in the door’s direction. “Just… What kind of student creeps behind his master’s back. Of course, if these were enemies, it would be different.” He squinted at the reflection in his knife. Everything looked different in a reflection. “I don’t think our masters are enemies.”

Cut all our throats, or chloroform us and sell us off to slave traders, or hold us all for ransom.” He lay back on the floor comfortably. “We ought to explore this place and find out all our escape options.” He wiggled gleefully.

After much deliberation, for no serious reason, I feel it makes more sense for all of these characters to come from the same huge world. A world with a huge map, isolated countries, and separate magic systems/cultures. While portal fantasy is easier, I think this way gives us more opportunities to tell a good story. If all our characters come from the same world, there’s more jostling and conflict.
Everyone agree? Anyone have strong opinions? Cuz otherwise I’m deciding how it is
I like it! I feel like having international politics act as a factor here really ups the stakes. Our royal brats aren’t just here for a lark. There could be real consequences for their actions.

The firelight caught his face as he leaned forward, illuminating a flash of mischief in his eyes before it could die away. He steepled his fingers under his nose.
“Yes! Ransom. Or they could poison the food. Stage a coup. They could very well be attempting to subvert us to their own influence, becoming powers in all these countries at once.” That last one was almost too realistic. A shiver slithered over his shoulders.
“But we can’t risk getting caught. It would make them suspicious.” He jumped to his feet. “We need a plan. A method and an excuse.”
He was at his crate son a moment, and then then back at the table in the next, an elaborately carved box in his hand. “Here. Ever played Mühlespiel?”
The brass pieces tumbled out of their velvet casing as he unfolded the box into a board. He did not really intend to play, just use the pieces to illustrate points. Still, if Wolfgang wanted to, Wilhelm would not be opposed. He paused to study the board.
“We also can’t forget that the staff are likely friendly. As our authority, we cannot disrespect them, or we would lose all rights to authority ourselves. For now, escape routes and a better knowledge of the area should be our top priorities. We need to know who is here and where they are lost of the time.” He stood two of the lighter pieces up on the table. ” Here we are. No allies yet.”

He had only said it to get Wilhelm to come with him, but now the idea had taken hold of him too. It sent a thrill that was mostly excitement with a tinge of fear running down his spine. The fear quickly vanished. “I’ve never played this, but I play chess,” he announced, looking at one of the pieces. He sat it down on the board and turned his attention back to the conversation at hand. “I wouldn’t trust all the staff. That one fellow who wouldn’t let me slide down the stairs could likely be on their side. Only a villain would ban sliding down the stairs. Besides, he did something weird to your wrist.” He looked at the table again. “This will be like Sir Percy or King Arthur!” He rubbed his hands together. “What’s the plan?”

“Agreed. I think our first rule should be caution.” He so rounded the their two pieces with others. He really would need to teach some of the others how to play this game, but that would have to wait. “We do not know who is a friend or an ally. Naturally, we should be making good connections anyway, to help keep the politics between our countries smooth. I don’t think we should mention any suspicions to anyone at first.”
He nudged another piece into place with a slight smile. “If some of the other boys have suspicions, it will act as confirmation. Have you met anyone you think would be a good starting place?”
Meeting Jasper on the sparring grounds had just become even more important. Clearing the board of pieces, he began setting up the game methodically.
