Oh, that’s such a feeling of dread and nostalgia when you look back on old drafts, and mostly I just scratch my head and wonder what I was thinking back then XD Oh, I remember you said that Lila was originally the protagonist! That’s so interesting, but I definitely like Mejia being the main character:) Oooh, I love those names!! I mean, I adore the ones you ended up with, though, but you should use those names in another book for sure!! Deek’s original name was Maverick, and some of Caira’s names were Auryn and Maggie… I’m really glad I didn’t choose those for the final draft XD I’m the same way–I’m content with sticking with Fortitude before trying any new projects (even though I’ve already started daydreaming/creating new characters for another book… *sigh*)
Aww, thank you!! That makes me happy to hear that you feel sympathetic/compassionate for him. While Newton is initially portrayed as a gruff character, I still wanted readers to sympathize with him (because the poor boy has just dealt with so much), so thank you! And thank you for saying that!! *smiles a mile long* That just warms my heart to hear you say!!! <3 <3 <3 Really, it means everything to me that you like my story so much (and my characters)!
Yup! She carries around a journal and writes about her feelings a lot (as well as new things she’s learned, because after missing one thousand years, there’s a lot of things to learn XD). I usually insert a diary entry to break up a huge scene. (It’s just really cute whenever she starts having feelings for Newton and writing about him secretly) Aw, that’s so unique! I’d love to read them even though they don’t make it into the novel because I just LOVE READING ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR CHARACTERS!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
April 5, 2021 at 5:46 pm #96750*sigh* I replied to your latest post, again. So forgive me and allow me to reply to your earlier post now.
I know! I do that all the time in my head and it’s pretty amusing to think about 😀 Ahh, Filip is just too adorable I could scream (as are all of your characters, whether or not they like it:) Oh, I know! I adore those types of characters because they honestly end up being more adorable than the non-gruff ones! While Caira is more shy and soft-spoken, the female protagonist of my other novel (which I have yet to write… *sigh*) will probably have a more gruff and down-to-business personality.
You’ve done a PERFECT job of crafting Mejia’s character!! She may be gruff, but definitely not in an annoying way, which makes me appreciate her a lot more!! So cheers to you!! *claps* And THANK YOU SO MUCH for saying that about Caira!!!! I was hoping she didn’t seem too shy or timid at times… It’s hard to have that balance. And of course they are!! Like, I honestly don’t know what I would do without all of your posts! They make me smile, stay encouraged, and are pure motivation for me to keep writing!! *gives virtual hug* So thank you for being such a positive light for my writing!! 😀 😀 And of course!! I don’t exaggerate one tiny bit when I
scream from the rooftopssay that I LOVE THE SNOW WARRIOR/THE CHARACTERS/THE THEME/ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR STORY AND WILL WRITE A 1,000 PAGE REVIEW FOR IT WHEN IT COMES TO BOOKSTORES!!!!!!!!!!!! You can hold me to my word on that 😉 I definitely will fangirl over it once it’s published/famous/a bestseller!!!!!!Oh, yay!! (You’re probably going to regret giving me permission to ask questions, you have been warned XD) So what does Artur look like? Why is he against Mejia and her friends? Does he live in Birch Woods too? *sigh* I’ll probably think of more, but that’s some starter ones 😀 And thank you so much!!! 🙂

April 5, 2021 at 6:16 pm #96752Girl, I’m SO SORRY for not replying to your post yesterday!! I can be so forgetful sometimes, so you’ll have to forgive me for that. Anyways, my progress has been smooth-sailing today! I’m introducing one of my favorite characters EVER, so it’s been fun to write!! 😀 And *gasps* those lines are amazing! Your story sounds so interesting, and I’m so happy to see all the progress you’ve made with it! *high fives* I’ll have to post some of my starting and finishing lines, too!
April 5, 2021 at 6:50 pm #96754No problem!! I sometimes feel like I suffer from short term memory loss, so don’t feel bad… 😜 Ooo, do you mind sharing about your character? I love introducing my favorite charries. Thank you so much, and yes, you should definitely post some first and last lines!!!! 😃

-gladiator, 2000April 5, 2021 at 7:25 pm #96755Ah, thanks for understanding! *slaps palm to forehead* Just call me out on it if it ever happens again XD Oh, I’d definitely like to! *clears throat* Her name is Alana, and she’s a huntress/shepherdess. She has a very tomboyish and lighthearted personality, and ends up becoming Caira’s best friend as well as the sister she never had, in a way. Alana enjoys being a huntress and fishing, and she’s very skilled with tending to her reindeer. She’s native to a different tribe than Caira is, and temporarily lives in a hidden camp that teaches magic. She’s a very quirky and bubbly character, so it’s fun writing her introduction (also, she has teleportation, so that’s interesting) 😀 Oh, me too! And yes, I will! Though, mine probably won’t make any sense because I’m in the middle of a scene with a lot of names XD
April 5, 2021 at 7:31 pm #96756Ooo, she sounds so fun and original! Teleportation abilities? No fair! XD And her name is sooo pretty.
And yes, I will! Though, mine probably won’t make any sense because I’m in the middle of a scene with a lot of names XD
Haha, i feel that! That’s exactly what I thought about my last quote, lol! XD

-gladiator, 2000April 5, 2021 at 7:45 pm #96757Thank you!! She’s a lot better on written page than in my attempt at a summary XD And yes, thank you!! I liked her name too:)
Haha, well thanks for understanding! Just know that… it probably won’t make a lot of sense. And I thought your last quote was awesome! It makes me curious to know more about your story! How long have you had the idea?
April 5, 2021 at 7:55 pm #96758Actually, I’ve had the idea for a long time, maybe since one or two years ago? It started with Hope just living in the wild with her dog, and then the boy shows up and nothing really happens except a band of people try to kill her randomly. XD Then i combined that idea with another idea where there are three types of people with the disease called AUV (i forgot what it stands for): Alphas (crazy people), Betas (enhanced people), and Gammas (dead people). Poor Gammas. LOL
Anyways, Mirror is what i have now. It will probably evolve even more (i have a tendency to combine all my ideas into one book).

-gladiator, 2000April 6, 2021 at 2:43 am #96795Exactly! XD
Yeah, but tbh she was only the protagonist for about two scenes before I realized who the story actually belonged to:) Ooh, those are great names too! But I think the ones they have now suit them the best:)
Ah yes, same here. I have two other novel ideas that pop in and out of my mind now and then, sometimes they nearly convince me to write them instead of TSW, but I always wind up coming back to it:) Oh my goodness, yes, poor Newton has gone through so much and is just so (I’m out of earshot right?) cute despite his gruffness, it’s impossible to not love and be sympathetic for him!:) I mean it’s impossible not to love Fortitude and everything about it!That sounds so AWESOME!! I still love the concept of being frozen in ice for a thousand years btw!:D I mean that is just so cool. Aww, oh my word, I can only imagine how adorable those journal entries must be when she starts to have feelings for Newton! *AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness, I could probably fangirl over that for the next week or two or three. I mean, that has got to be so cute!:)
Mejia has a sort of makeshift journal, that is made up of birch bark paper and bound with leather strings. It very primitive looking, but it works well enough for her as she uses a slim iron stylus to write, (birch bark and styluses were used more frequently in 13th century Russia, so it worked out pretty well unless I move the setting back a couple of centuries, then I’ll have to change things slightly, but oh well:) It’s one of her few and prized possessions and she mostly writes about the daily sightings in Birch Woods and documents changes in the territory. But she’ll also write more personal entries too from time to time, I mean not naming anyone in particular, *cough* Filip. Okay, I named someone and Mejia would never forgive me if she knew I just said that.
I definitely might post them some time even if they don’t make it through drafting:) And totally same! I’d utterly love to read yours, (I mean don’t feel like you have to at all, just if you ever have anything you want to share, *raises hand and waves it wildly above all the other raised hands* I”D ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO READ IT TOO!!!:DApril 6, 2021 at 4:21 am #96796Thank you! (tbh, the only one who wouldn’t like it is Mejia, Morio would probably shrug, Anton would blush, Lila would most likely take it as a compliment and well, you already know how Filip would react XD 🙂
So true:) Though I’ve only read one book so far from The Ranger’s Apprentice series, my favorite character so far is Halt, who is defiantly the gruff sort. But because of that, his humor, quirks, and sad backstory made him all that much more of an endearing character:)Aw thanks! That like, means the world to hear about Mejia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D Like there’s not enough exclamation points in the universe:D I appreciate that so much, you have no idea!!! 😀 😀 😀 *virtual hugs back* I’m so glad that my posts are so motivating, (because for me, I’d be lying if I didn’t say how utterly SPECTACULAR Fortitude is!:) I mean I honestly consider it a privilege to collaborate with a future bestseller!
THANK YOU x 100000000000000!!!!!!!!! I mean, I, that means SO much to hear!!! Aw, I mean all the thank yous I’ve ever posted probably wouldn’t even begin to say thank you!!!:) And I mean it when I say right back at you:) I mean, I mean it every time though:)Haha, no, I LOVE questions about TSW:)
Hmm, let me see… Well, he is actually about the same height as Morio give or take an inch. Artur’s hair is shorter than the other guys but is very messy and is an extremely dark red, so that you’d think it’s completely black if he stood in a shadow. His eyes are a faded violet, and his weapon of choice is whatever he can steal, although he’ll often carry a dagger. He mostly wears black boots, black gloves, a white shirt and scarf, a red coat, and a dark cloak. His face is rough even though he’s seventeen and has two fingers missing on his right hand.
Since Mejia is the sworn defender of Birch Woods and since Artur had been sentenced partly by himself to his mission which is a great threat to her forest, Mejia naturally stands in his way. He sees her as an ultimate obstacle between him and his goal. In turn, he makes things as difficult as possible for Mejia and her band.
Also, Mejia was a natural enemy for Artur from the very beginning, starting with their widely opposing views and duties.
He actually had lived as an archer in the archer band that Filip belongs to in the forest right outside of Birch Woods. But long since has deserted after receiving a letter from his ill father to come and continue for him. But Artur had always hated Birch Woods since many years ago when his mother who had loved the forest and everything in it, was killed by a falling birch tree.
But for the most part, he doesn’t live in any particular place and Mejia always has the great difficulty of rarely knowing where he is due to his stealthy skill set.NP:) I love answering questions!:)
April 6, 2021 at 10:33 am #96813That’s so interesting! As much as I like Lila, though, I have to say that Mejia makes such an incredible protagonist, and I’m glad you ended up choosing her to carry the story:) And thank you! I agree–the story wouldn’t feel the same any other way!
Oh, I have the same thing happen to me a lot XD I have a few docs with other storylines and I’ve even thought about some new characters from time to time, but then I just have to remind myself to focus on one story at a time and not get overwhelmed… *sigh* I don’t see how a lot of people on here can handle multiple stories at once XD And thank you! Personally, Newton is
my favoriteone of my favorite characters, so it makes me so happy to hear you like him as well! His huge redemption arc is so heartwarming to write:)Of course! It’s difficult writing protagonists (especially females) who are portrayed as strong and courageous but not in an annoying way. And I think you’ve done an excellent job balancing Mejia!! *claps* And thank you! Girl, that warms my heart to hear! I’m smiling so big right now!:) And ditto, too!
And thank you! Honestly, the idea of a girl being in ice just came into my head, like, five minutes before I started school that morning, and it was like a domino effect because then I got the first sentence and got very happy about my new idea. So that’s the history behind it. And yes, it’s VERY adorable writing those moments!! Unfortunately for Caira, she starts doubting her feelings and getting frustrated that she’s starting to fall for Newton because he’s the one that betrayed her. But she eventually comes to her senses 😉 There’s also a cute scene where Caira secretly finds a page of Newton’s journal where he’s trying to write down ways to confess to her, most of them crossed out (and Newton’s handwriting is very messy, so that makes it even cuter). That’s so adorable to write:) Oooh, I LOVE Mejia’s journal! It’s so interesting and I wish I had one that matched that description! And just the fact that she does journal adds so much depth and insight into her character because we get to see her POV, sort of. (And YES, PLEASE WRITE ABOUT FILIP BECAUSE THIS ROMANCE IS JUST WAY TOO ADORABLE!) Seriously, I never melt this much over fictional romances so believe me when I say that I LOVE IT!!! *endless exclamation points* Haha, I can relate with that *glances over shoulder to make sure Newton didn’t hear me talk about his journaling* Phew. Yay, please do! I’d ADORE reading it, and I’d also adore to share some with you!! Even if it never makes it into the final book, it’s like a secret part of our stories that only we know about! 😀 😀 😀

April 6, 2021 at 3:32 pm #96828Aw, those are such cute reactions! Especially Anton’s–I honestly thought he couldn’t get any more adorable!:) Ooh, I’ve heard of that series, picked it up in a bookstore, but never went through with buying it. Is it good, or one you would recommend? Halt sounds like my type of character already! 😀
And of course, you don’t need to thank me! Mejia is such a well-written and likable heroine, how could I not say that? You’ve done an exceptional job at crafting every one of your characters! *claps* And thank you so much! Haha, my cheeks are starting to get sore from smiling so hard! Girl, you’ve been the most encouraging and devoted fan of Fortitude, it makes me so happy to read every single one of your posts!! And ditto, too–I just can’t wait until we’re published authoresses and we can look back at these posts and remember this! That’ll be a dream come true!:)
And OH MY GOODNESS, Artur sounds EXTRAORDINARY!! Especially for a villain, too–he sounds so cunning and mischievous and agh I just can’t over him!! I mean, the more you talk about your characters, the harder it is for me to choose a favorite because they’re all so well-developed and likable!! His description is so… *shudders* terrifying and remarkable at the same time! Oddly enough, that’s quite similar to how I pictured him in my head (probably from that amazing collage you did a while back:) And *gasps* I can see the conflict rising already between Artur and Mejia! *shivers* And even though Artur is the antagonist, I do have sympathy for him because of his poor mother–I can definitely understand how he would greatly dislike Birch Woods after that. Ahh, Artur sounds so… *flips through dictionary to find the appropriate word* AMAZINGLY-AWESOMELY-POSITIVELY-SPECTACULAR! And that doesn’t even cover it!:)
April 6, 2021 at 8:16 pm #96835Hey, so sorry I didn’t reply to your post! I saw it, but then I forgot to type out my response… *facepalm* Anyways, your story idea sounds incredible, girl!! The storyline sounds so suspenseful and mysterious, I love it!! Oooh, that’s so interesting you’ve divided up the people that way–that makes things so much more tense. You’ve had an incredible word count on it so far on NaNo! 😉 Good luck with it! And I agree–I have a tendency to just mesh all of my ideas into one book XD Also, I love the name Mirror. It’s so mysterious… 😉
April 6, 2021 at 9:04 pm #96838No problem! sadly, i’m feeling kinda stressed rn because of so many school projects… I’m going to keep pushing through, but i probably wont make my word count, which is fine. 🤷♀️ we’ll see how it all works out… 😉
what we do in life echoes in eternity
-gladiator, 2000April 6, 2021 at 9:56 pm #96841So true XD Sometimes it seems like it might be easier to start a whole new novel, but really it is always as hard as the original one, (*cough* totally not speaking from experience or anything like that XD ). But yeah, I have no idea how some writers can balance multiple novels at once.
Oh yes, definitely! Newton’s redemption arc is so beautiful and awesome and heartwarming. I mean it is just the perfect character arc for him and gives him soooooo much depth!:DWait. That’s how you discovered that concept? That is so cool, like something you’d read in a famous author’s biography or something:)
AH! Caira don’t do that! (I mean I love it on one hand and on the other, I’m like, “Caira!” XD ). But oh my word that sounds SO adorable!!
And. Wait. Just. A. Second.
THAT IS JUST ABOUT THE MOST ADORABLE THING EVER RIGHT NEXT TO THEIR CONFESSION!!!!!:D 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 I mean that is so cute I could just about scream, *glances around* no, I guess I’d better not scream or I’d scare everybody XD No seriously though, that is the CUTEST thing ever!!! I mean, wow, ah, that is so awesome I can barely write straight thinking about Caira reading that. And Newton has a journal!?!?!?!? *Internally screams because I can’t scream out loud* That is so amazing and sweet and I just practically melt at the thought of Newton trying to write out, with his messy penmanship, ways to confess his feelings to Caira!:) Ooh, what was Caira’s reaction? Did anyone else ever know she read it? *Gasps* what were a few of his ideas that he crossed out? Oh my goodness, that is so ADORABLE, that that is literally a whole new level of adorable!!!:DYeah, Mejia’s journal nearly has a whole (very minor) storyline to itself in a way. It has been lost, saved (by Filip when the wind nearly swept it into the river. In which Mejia gets upset with him when he walks back to her fort with it, afraid he had read it since by then she had written quite a few times about him), and then eventually is stolen and read by Artur in which he uses the information against Mejia since it’s his method to attack his enemies’ deep and hidden weaknesses. Then the journal is finally lost over a cliff at the end of the story when Artur throws it off a mountain along with Mejia’s sword. So, yes… (sorry Mejia).
Thank you!:D Totally, I mean there are only two other fictional romances that I truly love aside from Newton/Caira and honestly Newton/Caira are my favorite out them all:)OH MY WORD THAT WOULD BE THE AWESOME-EST THING EVER!!! If we shared some of our characters journal entries, (even though they don’t make it to the final draft:), I mean that’d be so incredibly awesomely cool!:D Okay the word ‘cool’ didn’t really cut it… more like SPECTACULAR!!!:D
