@joy-caroline I use the word “lit” constantly, don’t worry. The soundtrack in itself is amazing! I actually don’t remember if I watched it as a kid, but I did have a picture book based off of the movie so that’s probably the most I knew of it…but I (re)watched it last year for memory refresher. I love the soundtrack! Have you listened to Jonathan Young’s covers of them?
@hallie-jean Aw, thanks for your support! I’m really glad you’re here with us!Lately, it's been on my brain

Whew. *sighs and is grateful I’m not outdated*
I know, the soundtrack is phenomenal! I haven’t listened to Jonathan Young’s covers yet, but now that you mention it, I’d really better go do it! Lately I’ve been loving covers of TPOE. That’s why I think it would be super cool if my school were to do one.
February 8, 2021 at 10:46 pm #92001@joy-caroline This forum hates links…*sigh*
My favorite cover of a cover from TPOE is this one nightcore cover of Jonathan’s cover of “Playing With the Big Boys”…if you’re into nightcore or something I’d highly encourage you to look it up! Just with those keywords. I love it to death.

If hours don't turn into daysFebruary 8, 2021 at 10:46 pm #92002@hallie-jean Hi again!!! 🙂 Sorry I’m replying late. I’ve had a lot going a on the past couple of days but hopefully things will be better now. 🙂
Yay!!!!! I can’t wait to write with you!!!! What is your WIP about?
Oooh, a contemporary romance sounds really cool!!!! Awesome!!!! I’ve never read those books but I’ll check them out!
The last book I read was The Captive Kingdom by Jennifer A. Nielsen. It was AMAZING!!!!! It’s the fourth book in The Ascendance Series. Have you heard of them? The book I am currently reading in is The Princess Companion by Melanie Cellier. The Princess Companion is a retelling of the fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea”. It’s really good so far.

I know, right? I have that same problem!
Ooh, I am definitely gonna give it a listen! I love that song, it’s one of my favorites on the soundtrack. My other favorites are “Through Heaven’s Eyes”, “Plagues”, and “River Lullaby.” Hbu?
February 9, 2021 at 11:18 am #92068@joy-caroline Honestly I love all of them! “Plagues” is really good as well. Quite emotional.

“Plagues” is such an intense song! I agree, all of them are good. I love the Hebrew in “When You Believe.”
February 9, 2021 at 1:45 pm #92132@devastate-lasting @joy-caroline I haven’t seen the movie in a while! You guys are making me want to watch it again! And listen to the music!!!
@mkfairygirl No need to apologize! I’ve had a busy weekend as well!!! *chuckles to self* My WIP is a mix of fantasy and historical fiction. It follows a girl who’s been thrown out of her ship’s crew bc she only has one hand. She doesn’t stop there, though, and decides to put together her own crew of kids, like her, who have disabilities. But to prove themselves as real pirates instead of a laughing stock, the new crew sets out to a land far from home . . . and the path there is more dangerous than anything they’ve encountered yet. It’s supposed to kind of be the beginning of the pirates we think of today, like the fearless, raiders who befriend parrots 🙂
I’ll have to check out the books you recommended! They sound awesome!!! I love fairy tale retellings!

February 9, 2021 at 7:40 pm #92203@hallie-jean Hello Hallie!!! I’m Elizabeth, and it’s so nice to meet you. Welcome to the Kingdom of Pen! May I offer you a cup of tea? *brandishes kettle with reckless abandon*
Ooh, another fantasy author!!! *fistbump* Fantasy is my fav. I think it’s so neat that you’re inspired by “The Twelve Dancing Princesses”! I too have been inspired–I wrote a mini-stage play based on one retelling of it a few years back.
Also, I may or may not have looked over a few of the other entries on this thread, and your WIP sounds incredible!! You may have already answered this, but what inspired Daren and her story? 😀

February 9, 2021 at 9:03 pm #92217@lewilliams Hi Elizabeth!!! It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance! *sips tea with a pinkie out*
I LOVE fantasy!!! And yes, “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” is a lovely story! I read a retelling when I was younger called The Thirteenth Princess and I absolutely fell in love with the world building! I dreamed of writing my own stories ever since!
Thank you! I did already explain this, but no sweat! I love talking about my WIP! I was actually on a trip at this time and I was listening to the soundtrack from Descendants XD And I randomly decided it’d be so cool to write a story about pirates! I could already see the characters clearly in my head! I usually start with characters! They’re one of my favorite parts to writing! Most of the main character’s names (believe it or not) came from road signs. I would take the first word I saw from a sign and create a name out of it! It was kind of fun actually!!! But now I’ve really come to love this story!
What is your WIP?? If you don’t mind me asking 🙂

February 10, 2021 at 1:59 pm #92295I’m terribly late to this welcome party, but I still wanted to stop by and say a quick hello!
I pretty much was raised on The Twelve Dancing Princesses Barbie film. XD So that story will always have a very special place in my heart.
Annabeth is great! She’s probably one of the first girl characters in a book that I read that wasn’t annoying or completely useless. XD Which definitely made her one of my favorite characters from the Percy Jackson series.
Do you have a favorite book from the Percy Jackson series?
Characters are my favorite part about writing as well! I probably spend 80% of my writing time crafting characters and the other 20% doing everything else. XD Do you have a favorite character that you have created?
Woah, you wrote a stage play for The Twelve Dancing Princesses? That’s so cool! How was that experience?
February 10, 2021 at 7:55 pm #92378@hallie-jean *clinks cup against yours* Cheers!
Whoa, that’s such a neat way to come up with character names!! Now I definitely want to try that. Listening to soundtracks whilst on a road trip is where I’ve come up with several of my story ideas, so I can relate there. : P That’s so cool that you start with characters!! Do you have a favorite name you’ve created? Or a favorite character in general? (I know it’s hard to pick favorites when it comes to writing things, so no pressure. :D)
Of course I don’t mind! Goodness knows I leap at any chance I get to talk about my dear WIP. It’s called The Drakesbanes, and is a fantasy western-ish sort of thing. Basically, my one MC becomes queen and has a year to pay off her country’s debts before her neighbors start elbowing their way in. Plus there’s this whole thing where she gets married, except her fiancé has gone missing (unbeknownst to her) and was replaced by someone magically-disguised to look like him.

February 10, 2021 at 7:59 pm #92380@kathleenramm Heh, it was only ~8 pages or so? So I use the term play here very loosely, haha. I wrote it for a screenwriting class I took a couple years back–our first assignment was to take a familiar story and translate it into a script, so I picked that! (I’m actually pretty proud of how it turned out :D) It was quite an enjoyable process, though I have to say my most vivid memory of the project was when the Serious Film Professor™ teaching the class went off on a tangent about why he thought the Barbie movies were actually pretty good. XD
