@mark-kamibaya Yes, we started using Vidangel recently and it works really well…besides being only $1 for a movie after the original $20 is paid.
INTJ - Inhumane. No-feelings. Terrible. Judgment and doom on everyone.
October 29, 2016 at 9:41 pm #19973Ahh, favourite movies… Maybe ‘Chariots of Fire?’ or ‘The Hiding Place’, something Christian. I’ll remember what my favourite is later no doubt… We don’t use any of those programs, but I’ve heard of vidangel…it sounds quite good. Matt Meese did a commercial for it.

October 30, 2016 at 1:40 am #19975@mark-kamibaya If you like tragedies, then you would probably enjoy Lawrence of Arabia. Film-wise, it was very well done, in my opinion. I’ve heard people say that it’s long and boring; that is not the case. It’s very well done.
And about Braveheart- my parents say there’s pornography in it, so be careful.

October 30, 2016 at 9:20 am #19978@mark-kamibaya. Our family just discovered Vidangel a few weeks ago and we LOVE it. It allows you to watch some really good movies that perhaps you wouldn’t otherwise (ex: Forest Gump), and you can’t beat the price!
October 30, 2016 at 9:38 pm #19991Yep. Vidangel is 100% wonderful.

October 31, 2016 at 2:01 pm #20024@mark-kamibaya VidAngel is Studio C endorsed, so.. I mean, that’s definitely a plus. xD Jk, but seriously, like Hope said, it’s a good one as long as you’re alright with the whole $20 initial payment.

November 1, 2016 at 2:38 am #20061I have heard Studio C mentioned so many times here, but I don’t know what it is. What exactly is Studio C? @spradlin
November 1, 2016 at 9:19 pm #20138@sarah-h It’s an awesome comedy YouTube channel that is clean and hilarious! Here’s the link to their channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/BYUTelevision! I watch their videos all the time. xD

November 2, 2016 at 4:44 am #20154@spradlin Oh, cool. Thank you. I didn’t know YouTube had channels. The more I learn about technology, the more I realize I don’t know….Thanks for the link. ๐
November 3, 2016 at 10:27 pm #20262@sarah-h LOL! Yep. ๐ No problem! Enjoy; just approach with caution: binge watching videos is a real hazard. xD

November 5, 2016 at 12:17 am #20354@winter-rose Clearplay sounds good. Even though you’re in the minority (everybody else is like: Vidangel!), Clearplay sounds like a great option.
@emma-flournoy Well, my definition of feminism is like strictly making sure that women have in general equal rights with men. Once people talk about referring to Captainesses because the term Captain is male, that’s not feminism. That’s being a self-centered jerk. And true feminism at its core is biblical. At least that’s my belief.
@sarah-h I’ll definitely try to see Lawrence of Arabia sometime. And about Braveheart . . . that’s why I’m interested in filters like vidangel and clearplay. And I second what Sarah Spradlin said. There are some really awesome youtube channels (my favorites are Nerdwriter, Every Frame A Painting, and StudioC. That’s disregarding the hundreds of fitness vlog channels that I watch). But you really gotta make sure that you’re not lazying away your time.
@overcomer @dragon-snapper @hope @daeus @spradlin @sierra-h So vidangel must be pretty good. I would really like to try it out, ’cause some of my favorite movies have some questionable parts. It’d be great to not bother fast forwarding (which doesn’t always work right) or muting yourself, you know? Just sit back and relax.Okay . . . time to get back to NaNoWriMo writing

@Mark-Kamibaya You mean women wanting female captains to be called captainesses, because captain is male? That kind of thing—ridiculous stuff, and all the ‘I can be as good as a man, and no one can tell me otherwise’, is what I generally think of when I hear ‘feminism’. I think of Jessica Harrison and her aunt, in The Man From Snowy River, if you’ve seen that—those type who are always trying to ‘do what men can do!’ (And I don’t like it. ๐ )
If feminists—the hardcore kind like I said above—were consistent in their logic, the captain thing isn’t feminist, anyway. If they were consistent, they’d say ‘Oh, well women should be called captains, not captainesses, because we’re as good as men, and anything that goes for them can go for us!’ (Now I’m really hoping you meant what I thought you meant by that analogy, or I’m gonna look really silly for explaining that how I did… ๐ )I see what you mean about true feminism at it’s core being Biblical, though. I guess I just never thought to call it feminism; to me, ‘feminism’ has always brought the overblown, ridiculous view to mind. Equal rights with men is good, yes—but not all the stuff they term equal rights. All the, ‘well I can do that just as well as a man, because they’re no stronger than women! I can do this without a man’s help! I can do everything men do just fine!’ That’s not good, because women are the weaker vessels.
(And I know you know that’s not good. ๐ )- This reply was modified 8 years ago by Emma Flournoy.
November 8, 2016 at 7:03 am #20642I totally agree with you that that is just plain ridiculous. My example was very over the top and exaggerated. A realistic version of this would merely be the modern convention of writing he/she in place of just he or just she. The he/she thing is just tedious to read throughout any work of writing. Another real example would be lawyeress. Which used to be a thing (though people rightly phased it out of use).
And I get what you mean about how some women do things just because men do them. It reminds me of this thing I saw where this one girl demands to join a football team because–feminism. The coach says “Sure, you can join! In fact, there are four other girls who have joined already.” And then the girl is like, “Oh . . . okay. Well, I guess I don’t really like football.” The main point is: People are more interested in making a statement than actually wanting to gain their rights.
Women’s rights is biblical. What I understand is that you identify the term feminism with the hardcore die-hard feminists. And I can hardly judge you because feminism is probably more of an excuse to make a statement (and thus rebel against God’s design) instead of actually wanting to get women’s rights.
So in a sense you’re more right that I am. You are more exposing what modern feminists really have in mind. I just want people to realize that all of feminism isn’t completely horrible (though most advocates probably have the “make a statement” idea in mind).
It’s crazy how we got on this topic though, right? ๐

Yes, I know completely what you mean.

Yup, you’re right. We both understand what the other means, so good. Neither of us is wrong, it’s just the difference between true women’s rights and hardcore feminist womens’ rights. Good discussion.
Yes I know, it’s so funny how we got to talking about it. ๐
I love tracing thoughts back to what started them—it’s really hilarious sometimes.- This reply was modified 8 years ago by Emma Flournoy.
November 11, 2016 at 10:46 pm #21013I’ve been studying up on theme. Especially in movies. So I was wondering if you could give: Two movies that have, in your opinion, extremely powerful themes. If you could also give why those movies have such great themes or how they made the theme awesome then that would be even better.
Now I’m not talking about themes like “Peace is better than war because true peace isn’t tainted by man.” That’s a decent enough theme. Great even. But it isn’t necessarily powerful because, to me, a powerful theme is one that moves you. A powerful theme is a theme that inspires change in someone’s life. So what are your favorite movies with oh-so-awesome themes? Movies that may have even changed the way you live. Because isn’t that what great stories do?
Why two movies? I would like one Christian movie and one secular movie. I would like to see how they handle themes differently. Also, I’d like to see how a theme without strong Christian overtones is shown.
So let’s get to it:
