Rory’s tone made Dante feel like a kid again, being bossed by an older sibling. His posture slouched and he grumbled something indecipherable. Then he looked at Rory with a slight glare.

Viktor is an introvert that still loves being around people. He’s an anomaly. He wants to help everyone but has serious doubts about what he wants to be when he grows up. Doesn’t feel like he fits anywhere. Typical young teen/PK problems to be honest, if you ignore the whole refugee trauma. Also an oldest child so he has some leadership skills, lol.

Lol. Yeah, I can see that. Scratch PK and put in “military brat.” In the book cannon he’s a farm kid, but it’s an ancient world where everyone fights sometimes, and ballads are some of the only literature he has read. Reúven is even more military minded.
It is kinda funny to compare their different views of war, heroism, and military. Poor Rory just knows secret police stuff really.

Marcel wasn’t entirely sure how to lead the group. He had never led a team larger than half a dozen people in this place before. Still, it was only a game and it wasn’t the end of the world if he suggested something wrong.
He rolled his shoulders and crossed his arms as the other students gathered around him. They formed a semi-circle with members on the outskirts – the trailing ones who wanted to listen from a distance.
“Alright! So. Anyone who knows how to play, give yourself space between the other top players and focus on leveling the playing field. Everyone else should make themselves useful. We might be at an advantage, who knows, but we’re not going to assume it. Even one player with two left wings will turn our chances.”
Marcel grinned when a couple students laughed. It was a stupid joke but it warmed them up to him.
“We’re already at an advantage,” someone said.
“I wouldn’t say that,” Marcel countered. “The point of this is to work together, not load the work on a social Atlas.”
Some students looked at each other and laughed strangely. Marcel got the distinct feeling they wanted to stand behind him. The other students, meanwhile, followed his instructions and spread out.
He went in to change a few positions. The other team had members he could easily gauge, and he wanted to place his best players where the other best players faced them.
In a couple minutes, the leaders walked to the middle line. They shook hands.
“We’re going to destroy you,” Marcel said quietly. He smiled, letting Viktor know it was in good nature.

Felicity
Shoes squeaked on the gym floor as Marcel’s team spread out. Felicity found a place somewhere in the middle of the gym. She did some arm stretches while eyeing the other team. There were a few people she recognized: Viktor, Lois, and one of the twins. She finished her stretches, and began bouncing excitedly on the balls of her feet. She was confident in her own team’s ability to win.
Someone came up next to her, and Felicity looked down to see the other twin. She was smiling and looked eager to start.
“So, what’s your strategy, Roomie?”
Felicity grinned. “I’m going to be mostly throwing balls at people. That’s the point of the game isn’t it?”
“Cool.” The small girl nodded. “I’m not good at throwing, but I’m quick and can dodge. How ‘bout I help supply you and the team with ammo?”
“Sounds like a plan.”
They nodded to each other and then both took their positions. The team captains met in the middle and shook hands. They were ready to start.

So I’m thinking of the rules my school played with as a kid:
1. If someone catches a ball mid-air without fumbling it, the ref sends in one of their teammates who got out.
2. You can dodge or block a ball coming at you with another ball that you’re holding.
3. You start out with all the balls in the middle of the court, and everyone has to rush forward when the whistle blows to get them.
4. If you’re out of bounds, you’re out.
5. If someone catches a ball you throw at them without fumbling it, you’re out.
Should we use these? We don’t have to if you don’t want. That’s just how I learned dodgeball.
