Hmmm, enough fruit for a Ridgerunner if ever there was enough. XD

Chase looked at the floor, his eyes black. “Th-that’s sad. S-shall I in-intro-duce him s-sometime? A-all p-people should know f-fawns.” chase made a motion with his hand, as if petting some invisible animal.

Ryla nodded uncertainly. Falling into something or someone seemed like a foreseeable consequence of walking backwards to her, but neither of them had been hurt so it didn’t matter. “Take two. They’re chocolate chip.” She handed Maverick her bag of cookies. “Do you typically walk backwards?”

April 7, 2025 at 12:08 am #201263Celarent
Celarent glowered at Mateo, stuffing his hands in his pockets to hide their shaking. “Fine.” He could usually keep his mouth shut and convince people to like him, but something about Mateo made him forget every one of his carefully rehearsed rules of human interaction. It was infuriating. Celarent straightened his face out and turned to Marcel. “Thank you for saving my life.” Marcel seemed pleasant. Celarent could work out some form of alliance with him.

“I’m sure he would like that. I would too. I’ve never pet one. They would run off if I tried. You must have some really special talent to be able to get that close to them.”

April 7, 2025 at 10:39 am #201266*Leo nods in concern*
*Silvia appears and gives you a hug* “Welcome to the team! You’re… Salamander.”
*Leo rolls his eyes*
Leo
“Desecrated government property? My neighborhood wasn’t a… high class place. I don’t even know how we got sidewalks. Probably one of those ‘city improvement’ plans where they make nonsense jobs for disabled veterans and the like. Nobody cared as long as you didn’t get caught.” He saw the flicker of panic in Rory’s eyes, and quickly added, “Not that we’d get in serious trouble if we did. Maybe a scolding. Really. Nobody cared.”
Leo watched the sealant slowly lose its high, watery shine. In a few more minutes it would be nearly as hard as the cracked tile it protected.
That had been a long time ago.

Fine! Mateo thought to himself, It should be more, ‘Yes, sorry, Senior Mateo’ not ‘Fine’! I should blow him to pieces. *sigh* But that will upset Little Fellow, and I do not want that. He is fearless of the dead, which may be his downfall at some point but for now it has my respect. And at least the mocoso is respectful to Little Fellow.
A little piece inside Mateo’s dead mind :]

#AnduthForever (❤️)April 7, 2025 at 1:17 pm #201271Rory
Rory didn’t say anything. It was too confusing. It didn’t make sense to him… but perhaps Leo’s world was different? If that was possible.
Rory let out a slow breath. “Leo, do you have Agents where you’re from?”

Lois
Lois sat down at a desk in between Hugo and Victor, and the teacher resumed her lesson. Hugo pushed his science textbook to the edge of his desk so both he and Lois could see. Today, the class was starting by reviewing the periodic table, which had a lot more elements than Lois remembered from his previous private tutoring.
He looked around the classroom and sighed as he saw one more empty desk where Felicity was supposed to be. He took a sip from his hot chocolate and sighed again as the steam from the cup fogged up his glasses.
I don’t really know what to do right now with him sorry

April 7, 2025 at 1:50 pm #201278Poor kid. He’d probably think sidewalk chalk was a crime
Leo
“Agents?” Leo looked up from the tile. Rory was watching him with large, confused eyes.
“Eh, no. Not what you call Agents. There were–are–plenty of special ops soldiers in the army, but they weren’t murderers and kidnappers like your Agents. They were just specially trained units, usually sent out on rescue and reconacence missions. I worked with them on a few occasions when their tech got broke. They were, most of them, good men.”
Leo stood up. He reached out a hand to help Rory to his feet.
“You see, kid, my county didn’t need to control the people with force.” His hand closed around Rory’s, steadying the kid as he stifly stood. “We were too dependent on them for survival. And we weren’t harassed. No one stole our children or forced them to be murder weapons. We were, technically, free.”
He gave a low chuckle and shrugged. Free, yes. Thriving? Well now…

April 7, 2025 at 1:56 pm #201279Yes, he would.
Rory
Rory stared at Leo for a long moment, letting the older boy’s words play over in his mind. Leo turned to start down the hall, and Rory forced himself to keep up. “Leo…” he hesitated. “Leo, what is free? I know what my government says free is, but I think free means something different to everyone. At least, that’s the way it seems. What’s true freedom?”

April 7, 2025 at 2:54 pm #201280Leo
Hmm. True freedom.
Leo waited for Rory to catch up, mind whirring. He took a breath to answer, then paused, looking for the right words. Slowly, carefully, he tried to explain.
“There are different kinds of Freedom. The political kind usually means liberty to pursue your own dreams and live your life, even make your own decisions and hold your own beliefs. Then there’s physical freedom, the liberty to do what you want without hindrance. Freedom can mean different things for different people.”
He paused again, waiting until Rory looked up and met his gaze to continue. “But true freedom, that’s when your heart and soul are free. When all the weights of fear and evil are taken away and you forgive and are forgiven. Then it doesn’t matter how many prison cells, hospital rooms, or barbed wire cages you may end up in, you’re still free on the inside. And nothing can take that away. Death itself is the ultimate liberation.”
He smiled at Rory’s wide eyes. Sure, maybe the kid didn’t get it yet–especially the bit about death–but little by little, he would. Leo put his arm around the boy’s shoulders and led the way back down the hall. They’d have gotten another work order by now, but he wasn’t about to hurry Rory right now.
