I get it. XD
I wonder how Leo and Rory would have gotten along when Leo was a torn up 13 year old. Or even 16 year old at the beginning of his own book. It’s been great fun to write him as a fully developed character.

The gentleness in Leo’s voice and look reached out and touched Rory. He could feel himself relaxing, despite his paranoia.
he watched the older boy reading through a list of things to do. I’m not your new captain, or comanding officer.Rory has never heard anyone over him say something like that, and the words continued to play through his mind.
older brother.Rory had no idea what an older brother was. Well, in theory he was probably an older brother to some kid somewhere. But he didn’t exactly think that being born first was what Leo was referring to.
Rory stared at the jumbled pieces of metal in the bucket, and all at once he desperately wanted to know. He needed to do more than touch the edge of Leo’s world. He wanted to be a part of it. “Can you show me which ones are the screws?”
Then he pulled back, a feeling of terror flashing through him. What had he done? What would Leo do when he found out Rory couldn’t preform with excellence? Rory’s palms began to sweat and he glanced at Leo uneasily. And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn't hear the music

I have no idea!!they probably would have just had emotional breakdowns together. ?

February 22, 2025 at 1:34 pm #198259Or…Leo didn’t have emotional breakdowns as much as serious temper problems and protective issues. Silvia had a lot more breakdowns because she couldn’t understand what was going on (she’s about 5 years younger than Leo).
Leo
“Sure.” He dropped to one knee by the bucket. “This,” he picked up a screw “is a screw. A Philips head screw – that’s what the cross shape on the end is called – but don’t worry about the head type. And this is a bolt. There’s a bit of other stuff in here too, here’s a nail, and a nut, but not much of those so just leave those in the bucket.”

Rory gave Leo a cautious smile and took the screw. He looked it over, feeling the ribbed sides. “These are to hold things together, aren’t they?”

“Aye, you got it. Nearly everything built out of wood uses nails or screws. Metal stuff like big buildings use heaver screws, welding, bolts, all sorts of things.” He leaned back on his heels eyes going distant. He rolled a bolt on the palm of his hand. “Back home we used a lot more Laser welding, but screws and bolts are cheaper. Lasers weren’t really used on Raí, even at the aerospace port. To high energy cost.”

Rory looked up, interested. And for once, he didn’t keep it in check. “Did you ever use a laser welder?”

“Of course I have. I’m an engineer, top of my class. It was the most fun I’ve had in… Well, there’s not much like it. So much energy. Such precise, perfect lines.”
He grinned, picking up a bolt. It was a hex bolt, smooth and surprisingly new. Close to the size he used on the Mantis. He rolled it between his fingers.
“I didn’t build buildings though. I didn’t build much at all. I mostly designed prototypes.” His grin faded. He dropped the bolt back into the bucket.
“Might not look like it. Here I am in a mechanic’s suit patching outdated plumbing. But I designed things. And they worked.” His smile turned satisfied. He leaned back on his heels.

writing rps where my characters are ticked off is always super fun, but then I feel instantly embarrassed after I post them.
Dante has officially been added to Alpha’s possible threat list….
lol there goes Dante’s free rent. At least he’s not underestimating him anymore.

February 22, 2025 at 2:35 pm #198273Ah, me too. If anything RPs can at least give poor, mistreated characters a chance at a happy life.

lol. Me too!!ouch!! I’m not that mean to him.
?Rory
Rory began dropping all of the screws in a bucket, but his eyes constantly returned to Leo’s face as the older boy talked.
“what sort of things did you design?” He asked, his voice still quiet with hesitant caution. And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn't hear the music

Ryla nodded. Liko the handyman. And he did like cookies. She pulled out a small tin and handed it to him. “I baked these yesterday. They’re chocolate chip. You can have two.” She studied him as he took the tin. “What’s it like here? I’ve always been taught at home before.”
