📚 Appreciator of BooksOctober 28, 2023 at 8:30 pm #161396I present…every POV since you’ve been gone:
Ellis
“SOMEONE HELP US THESE GUYS ARE QUITE POSSIBLY GOING TO MURDER EACH OTHER!”
Ellis jumped as the voice’s shriek filled the room. He whipped around. Zahlin and a young man Ellis hadn’t seen before were standing frozen on the other side of the room.
Ellis scrambled to his feet and marched across the room, one hand resting on the hilt of his sword. “What’s going on here?” he demanded, glaring suspiciously at Zahlin.
Leon
Leon started back surprised by the strange sound. His face turn a little pale. “Who screamed?” he said a bit under his breath. He turned and looked at the man who had just approached.
” He….Zahlin… is going to kill me!” Leon tried hard not to shake but he could not help it. “Are you going to too?”, Leon questioned, “I’d hate to be slayed twice.” Frustration filled his already pale and confused face.
Ellis
Ellis raised an eyebrow at the young man. “What was your name?”
Leon
“I’m Leon Gomez, from Notopia in Extroit.” he replied, gaining his confidence a little.
Ellis
”Okay, Leon, let me give you some of advice,” said Ellis, “Stay away from this guy. He’s mean.”
Zahlin
Leon was shaking like a leaf.
“Okay, Leon, let me give you some advice. Stay away from this guy. He’s mean.” Ellis said.“Do you want another fight, because you’re really acting like it.” Zahlin said, glowering at Ellis.
“Humans are so dumb.” The Sword said conversationally to the other two blades, “Why can’t they ever get along?”
Conviction
”Um, our owners are angry at each other,” said Conviction, “we aren’t supposed to be talking.”
”Shut up,” whispered Ellis.
Ellis
Ellis spun around to face Zahlin. “You know what? Shut up!” spat Ellis, “what’s wrong with you? Can’t you even talk to someone without wanting to fight them?”
leon
“you know what…I mean it..how old are old you Zahlin? Actually, both of you.” leon stammered. “Why, I’m not sure whether to respect you like my father or brother or treat you like a fiend. State it now. Are you friend or foe?”
Flaz
Ooo, is there going to be a fight? I wanna watch that. Flaz thought. And it sounds interesting already!
He slid out of his chair and walked over to where the new guy, Ellis and Zahlin stood.
“Hello, hello.” Flaz said as he shoved his hands into his hoodie pocket, “Say… Are you all about to fight?”
He looked at the three, but when his gaze landed on the new fellow, he squinted. “Leon? Is that you? Oh this will be funny.”
Ellis
“I’m willing to be friends with anyone who will cooperate,” said Ellis, “I’m trying to get us through this alive. I don’t know about him though.” He jerked an elbow towards Zahlin.
Leon
“I’m willing also.” Leon replied. “What do you mean by get through alive? Are we destined to die?”
Leon turned looked at Flaz not sure whether to be happy or upset. “What on earth are you doing here Flaz?” he almost yelled.
Flaz
“Ha! That’s a good question.” Flaz spun a circle, “All I did was break into a cabin, then get pulled to this strange world. What are you–how did you even get here?”
Leon
“I don’t even know Flaz, and that’s what makes me mad.” Leon replied annoyed. “I’m always ready for adventure just not unexpected ones.”
Flaz
“Mmm.” Flazzy kicked the ground.
Ellis
Ellis looked from Leon to the annoying guy, whose name, apparently, was Flaz. And he thought my name was weird?
”You know this buffoon?” demanded Ellis, turning to Leon.
Leon
“Yeah I know him. Not much, but we’ve met before.” Leon look at Flaz and then back at Ellis.
Ellis
”Well have him explain what’s going on,” Ellis told Leon, “I was in the middle of a conversation.”
He started back towards Kaine. “Oh, and you,” he said, turning and pointing at Zahlin, “no attacking people.”
Nahim
Before Ottoline could answer there was a shout of someone murdering each other. Nahim spun, alarmed, hand unhooking his sword ready for anything. Ellis, Zahlin and two new people Nahim hadn’t met were all in an argument, Zahlin looking ready to kill a new fellow.
‘You’ve got to be joking me. This again?’
He listened to the argument, not wanting to start a duel of words and swords again since this really wasn’t the time. Not that he didn’t want to fight, his hands itched to wield his sword at something he could actually kill.
The problem escalated, but Nahim didn’t care. It was actually amusing watching this. He hung his sword and instead put his hand over his holstered gun. If Zahlin drew his sword, Nahim intended on shooting a warning shot.
Alec
Where was he?
How had he gotten there?
Was he…was he alone?
He thought he was sleeping in his tent, sleeping before battle ensued the next day. None of his fellow soldiers were around…where the heck was he!?
Loud voices sounded, almost like fighting.
Alec’s heart beat so hard he felt it in his head. He grabbed the Luger off his side and slowly inched towards a door.
Don’t go in, you fool.
But maybe someone needs my help.
FOOL! You couldn’t save them even if you tried.
Alec shrugged off the words. He was tired of arguing with himself.
“Your compassion will get the best of you, boy, so you better squash it now. Compassion is only going to get you hurt and make you do stupid things.”
Alec gritted his teeth. His father was wrong…he had to be. His father was wrong about everything.
Alec knew that very well.
Alec shoved the door open and drew his Luger; the pistol cocked, loaded with bullets. He saw several people, many of whom seemed to be in the middle of a fight. He cussed quietly and aimed the pistol straighter. “Alright, what’s going on in here!?”
Zahlin
Zahlin looked between Ellis, Leon, ignoring the newcomer – Flaz – who Zahlin already wanted to punch in the face. “I’m not a friend,” He said, “And I’m not an enemy either.” He glowered at Ellis, “But I am willing to be an ‘ally’ until we can get out of here. And I am not walking around looking for a fight, despite popular misconceptions.”
The door swung open. “Alright, what’s going on in here!?” Someone shouted.
Zahlin whipped his Sword out. The Sword, who had been carrying on a rather one-sided conversation with Leon’s sword, protested. I thought we were coming to a peaceable solution here.
leon
“Stand back Flaz…” Leon said under his breath. He drew his sword and positioned for action. “You better not shoot that gun.” he yelled at the approaching fellow. “These are swordsmen and it’s a total unfair match.” He looked at him, trying to guess his age.
Ellis
Ellis whipped around as somebody shouted from the entryway. Somebody was holding a strange weapon similar to the one Nahim had. Nahim hadn’t ended up using it, so Ellis didn’t know what it did. He hesitated, but decided not to get embroiled in this mess.
He slipped into his chain next to Kaine again. “Sorry about that, where were we?”
Kaine
He slips into his chain next to Kaine again. “Sorry about that, where were we?”
“Ah yes, I think you asked me if I can fight or something…” Kaine pauses. “I’m sure I couldn’t fight like you or some of these other people, but I can shoot a bow from horseback. I’ve only ever hunted grouse for my family before.” Kaine finishes, looking over at Flaz for a expected interruption.
“Can you?” Kaine’s eyes fall down to Ellis’s sword.
Nahim
At the entrance of a stranger, gun at ready Zahlin drew his sword. So did everyone else. That was it. He drew his gun and shot three blasts into the air and aimed it for the heart of the stranger. The sound of the shots echoed through the hall.
“That’s enough! Everyone stay where you are. Stranger, lower your gun and I’ll lower mine.”
Leon
Leon stepped closer to Zahlin. “Neither friend or foe huh? That’s a bit too lukewarm for my liking.” Leon swung his sword so that it knocked against Zahlin’s and looked him dead in the eyes. Leon’s dark brown eyes shimmered with a shine of challenge. what am I doing…well I guess today I die in a land I don’t know. But i’m already this far.
Fennin
Prince Fennin stood on a balcony near the high ceiling of the banquet hall, watching every bit of the unfolding ordeal. These guests interested him greatly, especially the weapons they carried.
Lillennings had only tried to fight with wooden spears and shields, along with some bows and arrows, but they couldn’t forge metal. Fennin had attempted; his hand still had a bandage from that one.
Ellis
Immediately after sitting down, Ellis leapt up again in alarm as Nahim fired three deafening blasts from his weapon. Zahlin and Leon had started a duel and the newcomer had his weapon aimed at them. Are you kidding me? Ellis thought.
Ellis drew Conviction and it surged with green fire. “Everybody, just stop!” he shouted, eyes glowing.
Nahim
Conviction and Ellis glowed green, but Nahim was not to be daunted.
“Lower your weapons! I won’t kill, but you won’t enjoy holes in your arms!”
Leon
“Woah green eyes,” Leon said, “What can that thing do”?
Flaz
Flaz jumped backward.
“I’m outa here.” He said, and then ran off. “Talk to you later Leon…”
Flaz slid back into his chair and sat there watching everything.

Lane
Lane watched the group nervously. Oh dear. I don’t know what is happening anymore. He put his hands over his face and closed his eyes.
Zahlin
Zahlin kept his sword up in a defensive position. He eyed Leon, Nahim, Ellis and the newcomer.
This is going well. The Sword said.
Leon
Leons stomach growled. Embarrassed, he hoped no one heard. He stepped back looking at everyone and Nahim. “Are you serious?” he screamed, “We don’t know what where doing exactly, and your going to turn everyone into swiss cheese?”
Fennin
“Are you serious?” One screamed, “We don’t know what where doing exactly, and your going to turn everyone into swiss cheese?”
Fennin laughed aloud. In one of his researches into different worlds, he had discovered what swiss cheese was, and somehow that thought was funny to him. ‘Oh, my friends! You are very intriguing!’
Snake
He landed with a thud, and whipped his head around to snap at his foe.
Nobody?!
What was this, then? Hector’s curse, come to haunt him? By teleporting him to another planet entirely?
“Reverse it.” he snarled to the empty air, hoping the power flowing in his veins would fix the problem. “Whatever he did, undo it!”
Nothing.
Okay, so it wasn’t that.
He lifted his wings and soared around, trying to see what in the name of Kote was going on.
Definitely not Krownest. The lack of snow was a dead giveaway.
Snake’s keen hearing detected voices. Not speaking in Dragonish. Luckily it was one of the other five languages he understood.
Small creatures, gathered around a table. Probably human. [most of them human, right? He knows what humans are but if there are other species, he won’t know them.]
His human-speech was a bit rusty, but he could get by.
“Where am I?” he asked as he landed, getting straight to the point. Many of them nearly jumped, and one was close to hiding under the table, not that he blamed them. “Did you bring me here? Who did this??”
Leon
Leon looked up seeing the arrival of this new creature. “I don’t know where you are.” Leon replied to the creature. “I barely know where I am.”
Flaz
A strange dragon-human landed in the area and Flaz nearly jumped in his seat. What… What in the world…??
“Where am I? Did you bring me here? Who did this??” the hybrid asked.
Flaz blinked several times. He rubbed his eyes. I must be dreaming. Never in my life… He re-opened his eyes and looked confusedly at the hybrid. He sighed, “It seems that you, too, have been pulled into this world….”
Leon
Leon was tired. So much had happened and hunger tore at his stomach. He was almost ready to make up with Zahlin.
Ellis
Leon and Zahlin both had their swords drawn. Nahim and the newcomer were both pointing guns at people. Just when Ellis thought the situation couldn’t get worse, a flying shape with draconic wings fell from the sky. “Where am I? Did you bring me here? Who did this?” It demanded.
Ellis stared for a moment at the strange creature. It was definitely draconic. Was it evil? Probably not if he had been pulled here too. Ellis stepped forward, his eyes and sword still blazing green. “You’re in Lillen. You were brought here by the queen, I assume, just like we all were, to fight a war.” He left out the part about it being a war against dragons in case the newcomer took offense. “I know you’re probably angry about this, but don’t take it out on us. We had nothing to do with it. Now can everybody please calm down?”
Leon
“Yeah. Sure.” Leon said, looking around. “So we’re here to fight a war? Oh great.” Leon slid his sword back into his sheath. “Guess we’ll have to be allies then, Zahlin.” He walked out towards the dining room.
Zahlin
“Allies it is, then.” Zahlin said as Leon walked away.
FINALLY. The Sword said, Now can everyone just be friends and get along?
“I doubt it.” Zahlin said under his breath. He turned to the man standing in the doorway. “Weapon away.” He said, “Half the people in this hall have weapons and most of them know how to use them.”
May I ask whom you’re referring to when you say most? The Sword asked.
“No.” Zahlin muttered and awaited the man’s reply.
Leon
Leon sat down at the table looking at all of the delicious food and beautiful dishes before him. He graciously spooned some food on to his plate and silently began to eat.
Flaz
Flaz watched as Leon sat down and served himself some food. He looked down at his own plate, which was empty. I better not get anymore food until—agh, I don’t think a little more would hurt anyone…. NO. I’ll wait a little…
“Want me to feed you, Leon?” Flaz laughed.
Leon
“Feed me?” Leon said startled. “No, I’m good thank you very much.” He looked up from his plate embarrassed. Why would he ask that?
Flaz
“Alright, alright.” Flaz laughed heartily, “Just thought I’d ask.”
Leon
Having accepted his fate of being in this foreign land, Leon looked up and around the table, “So so, what are we doing after this?”
Fennin
Fennin leaned over the railing of the balcony, now was the time he should probably get their attention before it got too late. Straightening up and trying to look princely, he called out with a strong voice,
“Strangers from far away worlds, Guests of Queen Silvae, I am Fennin and I will be instructing you about your quest.”
He studied their faces, all eyes were on him, though some whispered to each other. Fennin let his stiff shoulders relax. He lowered his voice so all could still hear him, but so it did not echo loudly in the room.
“I know some of you, all of you, don’t want to be here, but Lillen needs your help. Who can fight?” Hands raised.
“With a weapon?” A bit fewer hands raised.
“Who can work a forge?” The armored man stepped out.
“I can work one.”
“Who has knowledge of dragons?” Some hands raised.
“Who has fought dragons?” Fewer hands raised. Fennin’s jaw muscles tightened. Some of these people hadn’t raised their hands to any of Fennin’s questions. ‘If mother thinks I’m going to stand by and let those people go into war against dragons, she’s out of her mind. They must remain, unless they want to forfeit their lives.’
“Good, we have a number of you who can help us, you will stay the night, in rooms prepared for you. Tomorrow, I will meet all of you going on the quest, and we will plan it. Meanwhile, let me tell you the situation, most of you already know that the Dragons are destroying Lillen, if you didn’t know,” Fennin looked at the half-dragon and the strangely dressed person who had burst in with a strange weapon. “You do now. But that is not all of it.”
Fennin sighed, and his head hung slightly. “Upon the breaking of dawn, three weeks ago, I rode with my – with King Alten to the regions of our land. What we found were bodies, bodies of Lillennings scattered like seeds, and the rest were hiding. They told of the dragons, who had come to reclaim the Stones. When Lillen was first founded, each region had a Stone, a Stone that protected it from invaders. Now, somehow, the dragons got through the borders the Stone set, and captured each of them. With the Stones in custody, they now rampage, unhindered. There is only one way Lillen could be saved. Lillen would be saved if we killed each dragon that kept the Stones, one for each Stone. We tried, but our weapons are hunting utensils, not weapons of war. We had never need of a forge, nor more than the forest could provide. But, you can guess that didn’t end well.” Fennin pulled his neckline down over his shoulder, showing a bandage. “Now, you see we need your help. King Alten lies sick almost to death, Queen Silvae is distraught and not herself. The Prince wishes to ride to war, will you join him?” Fennin arched one of his dark eyebrows.
Leon
Leon looked carefully at the prince’s face. Though he still did not wish to be here, something in his soul, some kind of honor and duty weighted on him. Human or not, people are people and he would fight to his last to save these Lillen people and his now “allies”.
Ellis
“I know some of you, all of you, don’t want to be here, but Lillen needs your help. Who can fight?” Ellis grudgingly raised his hand.
“With a weapon?” Ellis kept his hand raised.
“Who can work a forge?” Ellis lowered his hand. Nahim kept it raised, and to Ellis’s surprise, so did Flaz.
“Who has knowledge of dragons?” Some hands raised.
Ellis raised his hand.
“Who has fought dragons?”
Only Ellis and Nahim kept their hands raised [sorry if I missed someone else]
We’re all gonna die, thought Ellis.
Leon
After he finished eating, Leon slowly got up from the table not sure what to do. So he decided to take a look around. He went out from the dining hall and looked at all the trees, leaves and plants that made up the palace. This is beautiful. When he thought he was far enough from the rest everyone, he began to sing softly, “my…heart…my..heart…where have you gone…oh soul of mine…why do you faint…”
Amir
Amir felt his jaw drop and didn’t stop it. Dragons? None of these people knew how to kill dragons. Well, a few of them may have known… But Amir didn’t! There was no way he could kill a dragon. He just knew it wouldn’t happen.
Arsyn Dabir had taught him a lot of things, but killing a dragon was not one of them.
Amir had read about dragons in his books, and from the looks of them, Amir probably wouldn’t survive an encounter with one. No, it wasn’t probably. It was certainly.
He felt his throat starting to dry, and finally snapped his mouth shut. But his face still held a look of disbelief.
He sat down in a chair, shaking his head. “Dragons… dragons… how are we going to kill a dragon…?”
“So… you ready to go slay a few dragons?” Hedieh asked, throwing fake punches. She slid into the chair next to him.
Amir laughed, his voice cracking. “Y-yeah, sure!”
Hedieh cocked an eyebrow. “You’re terrified,” she said flatly.
Amir’s cheeks burned. “No, no I’m not. I have been trained by the great Arsyn Dabir al Arash. He is the ‘warrior teacher.’ Why should I be afraid of killing dragons?” He let out another nervous chuckle.
“Um… because you aren’t Arsyn Dabir al Arash. You are Rohan Amir al… You are Rohan Amir and you have enough courage in you to kill a dragon.”
“I don’t think so Hedieh. I haven’t even earned my last name yet.” He traced the veins of wood on the table with his finger.
Hedieh humphed. She crossed her arms and lowered her head to catch his eye. “Who cares if you haven’t gotten your last name yet? Killing big, scary, evil things is how people earn their last names anyway. Amir, I don’t care if you have a last name or not, I think you’re fantastic.” She gave him a firm nod.
Amir smiled. “Thank you, Hedieh. But if we’re going to kill a dragon, I’ll have to meet my comrades… and some of them look kind of scary.” He shuddered, then laughed.
Hedieh grabbed his hand and yanked him out of his seat. “Well then let’s go meet someone!”
“Salaam, my name is Hedieh. This is my friend Amir. And he needs some more friends.”
Amir’s cheeks turned bright red as he forced his eyes up to greet the person in front of him.
Snake
“I don’t know where you are. I barely know where I am.” said one of the humans.
Well, that wasn’t helpful.
Another sighed. “It seems that you too have been pulled into this world…..”
Pulled.
Someone’s power was definitely at work here.
“You’re in Lillen. You were brought here by the queen, I assume, just like we all were, to fight a war.” one explained, weapon in hand. Enchanted weapon, probably, as it was glowing green. “I know you’re probably angry about this, but don’t take it out on us. We had nothing to do with it. Now can everybody please calm down?”
Those with weapons lowered them.
Sanke lashed his tail. “Lillen…Doesn’t sound like any planet I know. About this queen. Does anyone know her? has anyone seen her? What’s the full extent of her abilities?”
Someone came out just as he said that, and launched into a speech about fighting dragons.
Other dragons….
Hmmm….
This’d be fun.
“I’ve fought other dragons.” He spoke up. “I’ve killed the Imperialwing king.”
Of course, he didn’t mention that Hector had nearly killed him in the process. They didn’t need to know that.
