Yeah, but he can probably hear it. He has extremely sensitive, er, senses.

November 23, 2023 at 10:13 am #166314Rigere
A challenging song rose through the air. Rigere stopped her song as it grew louder, listening to the music. It tugged at the feelings of her heart, the feelings that she thought she had destroyed. She thought she heard the cry of a child, a young child, the cry of a child calling for his mother, for his family. She dropped her spell, and the ice around her turned a natural blue again.
There were other elements to the song, but the cry of the child was the only one she heard. The feelings of a mother stirred in her, but she fought them, yet still went on the song. The song of a child asking for his mother.
Rigere ran to where her brother, a Realn and the Queen were. She didn’t hear the Queen’s voice or the other parts of the song, only the child’s cry. In anger, wanting to make this thing that pulled at her heart stop, she rushed at the Realn, a weapon ready to kill him.

Screams filled the air. The Shadow reached out and fed upon the chaos.
But then-
Music. Faint, but getting louder.
The Shadow cringed, tendrils of smoke twisting away from the sound.
Pain…
The Shadow felt a very sudden need to scream. But he couldn’t. Trapped forever in a prison of silence. He backed into the corner, trying to block out the sound.

November 23, 2023 at 10:20 am #166316Nahim
There was a flash of blue and silver. Queen Silvae moved to the side of Nahim, avoiding being crushed under him as something pushed him over. A woman was on top on him.
“Stop it!! Stop it!” She cried in the elven tongue, getting ready a ice knife to stab Nahim in the stomach. Nahim punched her in the face, and grabbed the knife away, his singing growing faint. But the two other voices of the Queen and another woman still soured through the air, combatting the fire elf.
The palace shook, as the battle of song and magic continued.
An ice ball hit Nahim in the head, only protected by his helmet. His vision blacked out entirely. His song grew louder, as he stood and reached for the wall. Queen Silvae was on her own, Nahim was blind.

Kate flung her opponents sword towards the elf who was charging Nahim. She didn’t see if it hit as she turned back to deflect knives with her sword.
She lunged forward, grabbing the man by the throat and trying to stab him in the gut. Two knives crossing one another held her sword back.
She gritted her teeth, squeezing the man’s throat harder. He reached forward and clamped his hands around her throat. Kate let go of Bloodsong and punched him in the stomach, forcing him to release her. She grabbed the two knives out of the air and placed them at his throat, though they resisted her.

Descriptions:
Katonia: Long red hair, hyperaware, very book-knowledgeable, somewhat naive when it comes to real life, 16 years old, wears a dark red velvet dress, uses a magic key that unlocks anything and can teleport her. Princess of Stonestia, her home.
Brianaro (Brian): Short brown hair, mad sword skills, staunch friend and supporter, also 16, his older brother Colesco betrayed and is evil. Wears white button-down, shield strap, navy blue pants.
Nota Bene: I use present tense for high-action sequences, and past for normal. Mostly from Kate’s omniscient first-person perspective, as if it already happened.
Katonia
“That’s John! What’s he doing here?” I yelled. From the back of the Droth Fromeni, I pointed and tugged Brian’s sleeve. The huge flying serpent’s graceful, liquid flight was interrupted slightly as Brian tugged the reins in surprise.
“What’s he doing?” he whispered.
John, that evil sorcerer, was on the ground far below, shouting and waving a stick. He spun in a circle, then pointed his stick at a point a little ahead of our flight trajectory.
A blueish disk, spiraling inside itself like water down a drain, appeared in front of us. “Hang on! I’m going to try to avoid it!” Brian yelled. He pulled hard left on the reins.
The Droth, sensing fear, screamed and, instead of turning, spiraled. We went straight into the portal.
The scene changed.
The sunlit plains and blue sky became dark, smoky air. Below us (I couldn’t see well because we were still spiraling out of control) a castle blazed with fire. Sounds of battle and death screams met our ears. Also, the Droth was still screaming. It’s tail hadn’t even left the portal.
“I can’t control it!” warned Brian. The Droth twisted violently, and we were thrown off into empty space.
We fell.
November 23, 2023 at 10:30 am #166321Queen Silvae
“My lady, I can’t protect you, I can’t see.” The Queen grew worried for Nahim, not herself. She wondered if he would go temporarily blind if he was hit in the head again.
She barely saw the fire ball coming towards her, the heat singed her hair as she turned her head to look at Nahim, leaning against the wall. It’s over.

Nahim shook his head, and his vision returned though so fuzzy all he saw was the bright dress of the Queen and a fire ball. Yelling, he pushed her out of the way as her head turned towards him. The blast hit Nahim instead, and he was only saved from death by his Mithaln armor. He body slammed against the wall, but not his head. The Queen was safe.

He needed to stop, he needed to quit. Kate had asked him if he was in fighting condition, he wasn’t totally then, and he certaintly wasn’t now. He picked himself from the floor, his body aching and his head spinning. He liked around, ready to fight again, but both the elves were gone, and the Queen lay on the floor in a pool of Lillening blood.
Nahim had failed.

November 23, 2023 at 10:44 am #166327Why wouldn’t the elves finish off Nahim before leaving?
