Suddenly, Kate heard screaming. She turned to look down the hall and saw a knife speeding towards her face. She dove out of the way, and it embedded itself in the wall.
What was that?
She scrambled to her feet as a man in a black cloak came launching down the hall and landed lightly, surrounded by more flying knives. He grinned at her, and Kate caught a metallic glint under his hood.
“So you’re one of the ‘heroes’ we were sent here to kill,” he said. “I’m not impressed.”
He shot his knives at her, but Kate had already crushed a gemstone in her fist. The knives deflected away, embedding themselves in the wall as red light flashed in front of her.
At the same time, Kate drew Bloodsong from her back and swung it at the stranger’s head. He moved backwards with inhuman agility, and Kate lost her balance. He kicked her in the stomach, causing her to buckle and knocked her sword away with his hand.
Kate rolled backward as he drew a sword from his back and charged. He swung down at her, an expression of triumph on his face, but there was a flash of green light as Kate drew Nahim’s sword and blocked.
Taking advantage of his moment of surprise, Kate pulled a gemstone from her belt and crushed it in her hand, punching towards her attacker’s chest. There was a blast of red energy. The stranger was thrown backwards into the wall and slumped to the floor dazed. Kate was staggered backwards from the force of the explosion.
She turned and ran, scooping Bloodsong off the floor.

I had no idea what to do, and nothing to help with. How was I going to explain anything? Would the castle be half standing by the time I got the chance? And when I explained, who was going to get killed first, me or Fire Face?
