Nahim kicked Ellis in the leg. Ellis dropped down to one knee but kept hold of Nahim’s arm. He aimed a Conviction-empowered kick at Nahim’s leg, knocking it out from under him. At the same time, Kate pulled on the Arclash, and Nahim stumbled forward.

She wanted to do something. But what? Put her spear to Nahim’s throat and say stop? He knew she wouldn’t hurt him. Put it to Ellis’s throat? Then her fian would get up and go on looking pale and not resting.

“Pull harder, I want him on the ground, Kate!” She yelled. Running up, she grabbed Nahim’s arm with Ellis and as Kate pulled, she pulled with all her body weight down to the ground. Nahim fell.
