A noise made Lane quickly look up. His eyes fell on the tall person standing in front of the door. When he noticed the green sword in the man’s hand, he shivered from head to toe. Oh boy. Must be a warrior. The… THE HOUSE PROBABLY SENT HIM TO MAKE SURE WE ALL DANCE!! I’M DOOMED.
Oh my gosh I love this that’s hilarious!!!

Lane
Lane realized he was holding his breath, and so he silently exhaled.
He turned a little bit, staring off into the not-so-far-off distance as thousands of thoughts flew through his head. A memory of the first time he was asked to dance came into his mind… and he remembered how that moment didn’t end well. Lane looked down at the floor, then at Hugo and Ottoline, and then at Kari.
“To be quite honest, I am not good at dancing at all.” He laughed, “The one time I was supposed to was at my brother’s wedding. I feel very bad for the poor girl that was told to be my partner. All I really remember is that first we were up… and after a few moments, we were down. I sat out for the rest of the evening.”
Lane laughed at the embarrassing memory. He sighed.
“Have you had much experience in dancing?” Lane asked, after a brief pause. He stood up and put his hands in his pockets.

Kari
“Have you had much experience in dancing?” Lane asked, after a brief pause. He stood up and put his hands in his pockets.
“Well, most of my experience is from school dances, and I didn’t really participate in those much,” Kari replied. “But my dad taught me to dance a little while ago, and I just taught Ottoline, so maybe I could help you, too. If you want to, that is.”
“I don’t really want to make a fool out of myself, but it’s kind of you to offer,” Lane said. His gaze drifted out to the middle of the room, and Kari turned to see what he was looking at.

Heres just a really short one, with them dancing 🙂
=-=-=-=-=-= Hugo =-=-=-=-=–
He held her waist and shoulder and led her around the dance floor. He looked over across the room and saw Lane dancing with Kari, poor Lane was bright red.
A few new guests had arrived, a pretty girl wearing a pink dress was dancing with Amir, a fierce looking guy holding a sword and a boy looking very, very nervous, that was all he could see so he wasn’t sure if anyone else had arrived.
Ottoline looked at ease, it was a bit surprising to him but he was happy he had made her feel comfortable around him.
When the music stopped, Hugo sought out Lane in the crowd.
“You ok man?” Hugo asked, as Lane was very pale and breathing heavily.
He nodded and sat down with a thud, “Kari thinks the food is… is… poisoned,”
“I doubt it, you would have already been the first to pass out if it was.”
Lane was a bit miffed about Hugos not very nice, but true reaction. “Fine. It may not be, but still…” He trailed off thinking hard.Hugo sat down next to him and kicked his feet up onto the table. “How was it dancing with Kari?”
Lane sighed, “Odd. How was it with Ottoline?”
Hugo smiled, “It was pretty good. She’s a good dancer. As a matter of fact, I’m going to go see where she is now.”
Lane nodded bye as Hugo left to look for Ottoline. He hoped his fedora looked alright with his outfit. He bumped into Amir who was holding hands with a pretty girl, Amir looked quizzically at Hugo’s shirt before being whisked away by the girl.
Hugo looked down and realized his clip on tie … was gone. Oh well ,he thought girls never really worry about what your wearing. Do they?

Ottoline
She never thought that she would enjoy dancing. Not in a million years. But here she was, fighting back a smile as Hugo held her in his arms. She felt like she was turning traitor on her inner being. But somehow, she didn’t care. She didn’t want this moment to end.
When the music stopped, they parted ways. Hugo left and headed towards the food bar to talk to Lane, and Ottoline thought she might join him. That is, until she saw the man with the sword standing ominously beside
All her confidence evaporated. Is he a Pythonos? How was everyone acting so calm? They were in imminent danger! She took steps backward on trembling knees. She twisted the door handle open to the basement, took one last look at the guy with the glowing sword, and fled.
Running down the stairs with a long dress was no easy feat. Countless times, she almost faceplanted. Finally, she reached the basement. It seemed strangely quiet with no people down there, and Ottoline shivered. She did not want to stay here any longer.
Grabbing her old clothes, she ducked into the nearest dressing room, shed her annoying ball gown, and returned to her comfortable clothes, and grabbing her bow. She sat on the floor and decided to think of a sensible plan.
If I can just sneak up on him, get him by surprise, I could shoot him, and…
No, the idea of killing anyone, even a Pythonos did not appeal to her, no matter how dangerous he might be. Maybe if she stayed down here, he wouldn’t find her.
Suddenly, she realized how tired she was. Leaning her head against the wall, she glanced quickly at the door to be sure that it was securely locked, and her bow and quiver were within reach.
Before she could stop herself, her eyes were drifting closed. It felt so good to just rest for a moment….just for a moment, she reassured herself. No one can hurt me in here.
She closed her eyes and the world faded away.

Hedieh
As Hedieh twirled around the room with Amir, she couldn’t help but smile. This was so much fun. As the music slowly stopped, Hedieh sighed and let her hands fall to her sides. “You caught on pretty quickly.”
“That doesn’t mean it was easy,” Amir said, raising his eyebrows. “How’d you know how to dance like that?”
“Books.”
“Of course.”
“And my parents… who have traveled, like, everywhere.”
“Of course,” Amir repeated with a nod of his head. Hedieh saw a hint of sadness in his hazel eyes.
“What’s wrong?” She asked, her smile fading and a look of sympathy showing on her face.
He waved a hand through the air. “Oh nothing…”
Hedieh raised an eyebrow.
“Ok… fine. It’s just you— I mean, I—” He sighed. “I miss my parents.”
Hedieh offered him a soft smile. “It’s okay. You’ll find them. I know you will.”
Amir smiled. “You’re right.”
Hedieh cast a glance towards the basement door. “Now you go get something to eat or drink. I’m gonna run downstairs and check my hair. I think the hair pins are coming loose. I’ll see you in a few minutes.” She gave him a small wave, then disappeared through the basement door.
She hurried down the stairs and was about to go to her dressing room, when she saw the end of a bow sticking out underneath one of the doors. Intrigued, Hedieh tried the handle, but it was locked. She pulled a pin from her hair, a thick strand falling across her face. She tucked it behind her ear as she started to pick the lock on the door.
With a click, it unlocked. She carefully opened the door, but jumped back and gasped when she saw a girl napping in the corner. The door slammed when Hedieh let go, the noise echoing throughout the whole basement.
The girl inside gasped. Hedieh dropped her face into her palm. Well, now she blew it.

Ottoline
“Ottoline! Where are you?” Hugo’s voice echoed down the stairwell. His voice contained some sort of urgency. “Ottoline!” She heard his footsteps coming down the stairs. “There you are,” he sighed when he saw her and smiled his crooked smile that never failed to make Ottoline’s heart skip a beat. “I’ve been looking all over for you-”
Bang.
Ottoline screamed as a gunshot reverberated throughout the basement. Hugo cried out in pain, and crumpled to the ground, clutching his left shoulder. “No, no, no!” she screamed, falling to her knees beside him. Out from the shadows strode Jraldath, pistol in hand. Ottoline whimpered. “Please…please don’t hurt me…” Jraldath smiled triumphantly, evilly. He raised the gun and pointed it directly at Ottoline’s head.
“Sweet dreamsss,” she heard a gunshot….
“I’m sorry!” Ottoline opened her eyes and nearly jumped out of her skin as she saw a young girl in the doorway of the dressing room. Her eyes were wide and she put a hand to her mouth. “I didn’t mean to wake you, I was just curious and I-” her voice trailed off.
Ottoline tried to process everything. Her heart was going a mile a minute and showed no signs of slowing. So it was a dream, Hugo’s fine, Jraldath isn’t here….the sound I heard must have been the door slamming….I’m safe.
She blinked, unsure of how to respond.
“I’m Hedieh,” said the girl, “I’m sorry we had to meet like this,” she giggled a little.
“I’m Ottoline,” said Ottoline begrudgingly. She wasn’t entirely sure she trusted Hedieh, but since she hadn’t killed her yet, she realized that she likely wouldn’t. Suddenly she felt very foolish. There was a party going on upstairs, and here she was, sleeping? But the man with the sword….Wait, Hugo will protect me! She almost laughed out loud at the absurdity of that thought.
“Do you want to go upstairs?” asked Hedieh. “I hear there’s cake, though it might be poisoned.” the laughter in her eyes made Ottoline want to laugh too.
“Alright,” Ottoline breathed. Hedeah took her by the hand like they were old friends, pulled her out of the dressing room, up the stairs, and back to the party.
