Aw, Barnes is trying to be the comforting grandmother to everyone!

Tenz peeked out from where he hid his face, studying the pictures. Slowly, he unfolded himself, tenderly reaching out to grasp the packet. He studied the pictures much longer this time, looking up every once in a while with his blue eyes to meet Ms. Barnes’s mask. Gently, he closed the packet. “Okay,” he whispered with great reverance, slipping the object into one of the pockets of Omi’s jacket. Still holding the jacket close, Tenz stood and complied to to!losing the group to walking down the chosen corridor.
Reid thanked Barnes with a sigh of relief.
"You need French Toast."

*Gasp* How dare you, she isn’t even forty yet! 😂 I get what you mean. Honestly she would be a pretty grumpy grandma. The grandma who complains about kids but gives them cookies all the same.
Barnes
Barnes grunted, which was her version of, You’re welcome, it was easy, I have dealt with convincing people of harder things and he wasn’t bothering me anyway.
Despite being the leader of the group, she fell to the back. Taking her rapier from her side, she traced the tip along the carpeted floor. From here, it was easier to keep an eye on everyone.

Honestly she would be a pretty grumpy grandma. The grandma who complains about kids but gives them cookies all the same.

Rowen
A teen? What is that? Rowen didn’t bother to ask at this point, it was probably another thing from Reid’s world he wouldn’t understand.
“I was thinking we start down this corridor along the edge of the castle, and scour the place for clues and people,” Barnes said to Percival. Percival nodded, and they waited for Tenz, who was still very distressed. Barnes went over to him and took something from her pocket.
“Look at this, Tenz. I don’t have a jacket for special memories, but I have these. Could you hold onto them for me, keep them safe?” She offered the thing to Tenz, and he took it, seeming to be fine now. Finally, they continued to roam the halls again.
“Maybe Barnes isn’t so bad.” Emeline murmured.
“What? How can you be scared of a lady with a mask after all the creatures we’ve encountered back home? Don’t you remember the Onix?” Rowen asked.
“Of course, I don’t know, maybe it’s…” Emeline shrugged. “It doesn’t matter. What matters now is that we might have the chance to get back home or at the very least find something of interest here.”
As if on cue, the walls around them began to rumble, the floor shook, and a loud hiss sounded behind the group.
"No! Monkeys should have pets, all monkeys should have pets!"
Yay, okay! @keilah-h @theducktator are you guys interested in running into our group? We can either make it peaceful or go for a surprise fight, I’m game for whatever. XD
As if on cue, the walls around them began to rumble, the floor shook, and a loud hiss sounded behind the group.
I’m curious to find out what this is, lol.

Barnes turned on her heel and faced the sound – arms raised defensively. She made a point to stand in front of the nearest person without a weapon, who happened to be Emeline.

Emeline
Emeline spun round, pulling out her daggers and getting the feeling they weren’t going to help. Another hiss echoed along the halls as Barnes stepped in front of Emeline. Before and behind them, stones crashed on the floor, and the whole castle itself seemed to shake. The group waited, tensed, until finally, a huge shadow cast itself on the corner of the hall, and a moment later came a long forked tongue, and from that came the giant diamond shaped head of a silver snake.
Emeline let put a small gasp, taking a step backwards. “Get behind me Emeline.” She heard Rowen whisper. He took her arm and forcibly pulled her behind him, then drew his own daggers. Everyone else had they’re weapons drawn as they waited for the snake to make a move. It merely stared at them with slit pupils, it’s tongue moving in and out. Emeline gulped down some air. A heavy silence settled as the group stared at the snake and it stared back at them.
"No! Monkeys should have pets, all monkeys should have pets!"
Tenz & Reid
Green vapor flooded into Reid’s eyes and over his body, his tendrils hovered near the people in the group, poised to grab them and whisk them away from danger. Another glowing form joined him, wearing an oversized coat. Tenz didn’t seem much like a child anymore. He pushed himself to the front of the group, standing tall like a man. “Strike, and I kill.” Tenz’s voice even sounded different. He pulled out a knife, and his blue energy spread over the blade.
"You need French Toast."

Ah… Barnes nodded to herself, glancing at Tenz. This kid is exactly inverse to the toon system. Symmetrical. …Very satisfying.
The serpent hissed a thin rattle, like the sound of skirts brushing through a wheat field. The sound grew with every passing moment.
“Slowly… Back away…”
The group shifted back down the hall a few steps, and waited to see how the creature would react. They scanned the walls for escape routes.

Percival
Around Reid and Tenz billowed green vapor. Tenz pulled out a knife, blue washing over it, “Strike, and I kill.”
“Slowly… Back away…” Barnes commanded in a hushed voice. As they slowly moved back, Percival kept a weary eye on the snake. It was strange how it merely stared, flicking its tongue in and out. In and out. In and out…
All at once, multiple scales shot up from the beast, a deep maroon swirling about them. Before Percival knew what was happening, the scales darted towards them. “Everyone down!” He shouted, and at that moment wished he had a shield.
"No! Monkeys should have pets, all monkeys should have pets!"
Tenz and Reid
Reid cast out his tendrils, grabbing everyone but Tenz, whisking them further down the passage out of harms way. Several spikes hit Reid, as he was unprotected. The few that Tenz could not avoid who quickly discarded and the wound healed by his body.
“Now you die.” Tenz tossed the knife into the air, then pointed at the snake. As if controlled by Tenz’s own mind, the knife, still coated in blue vapor, sped towards the head of the snake, weaving in and out of the flying spines.
"You need French Toast."

Barnes
One of the scales glanced off Barnes’ thigh. Luckily she had her skirt over her trousers – the weather was cold in Lovedream – and the scale sliced right through the top layer.
“Hm.” The officer narrowed her eyes at the beast.
Reid pulled them all back, and Tenz made a leap for it. The snake deftly writhed to the side, avoiding Tenz’s knife, but the blade lodged between two of its lower scales and seemed to wound it.
Hugo ran around them both, a rapier in his hand. “Friend power!”
Barnes fingered her empty belt and cursed. She had to admit, the boy had gotten over his fear rather quickly in the face of danger. He had a wry grin, and his eyes had recovered their light cinnamon glow as he stuck the rapier into the snake’s curled tail. He was trying to make way for Tenz.
The snake whipped around, ready to strike. But at the same time, it seemed to be roving its vision through the group, looking for something. Its deep, ice-shard eyes focused on Barnes, and the tail rattled.
Barnes struggled to look away. Her hands fell limp to her sides, and she was caught in the serpent’s binding gaze. Underneath the mask, her pupils constricted.
