I am totally going to read your book, it sounds amazing! Just one question, what reading level is it? Amanda Dykes… She sounds familiar but I don’t think I have read anything by her yet 🙂
I recommend it for ages 13 and up because it’s set in wartime and there’s some violence, but nothing graphic. I know some families have used it as a read-aloud if their children are comfortable with that kind of material. Does that answer the question?
I just talked about Amanda Dykes over on another forum, so maybe that’s where you heard it. 🙂

March 19, 2023 at 12:02 pm #137634WOW! Thank you! That is a massive book title wave 😀 I have actually not heard of half those titles! I read my side of the mountain when I was littler and honestly I only liked the first mysterious Benedict society 🙂 And I think we own art of war, but packed it up (Were moving) But the rest I will add to my list!

March 19, 2023 at 3:03 pm #137656I wouldn’t say better; just different. Emily’s more serious and a tad prideful, but she still ends up getting into crazy situations, like Anne. Emily’s also a writer and idiot when it comes to love. Pat is one of my favorite; she’s a cross between Emily and Anne. Honestly, just read all of L.M. Montgomery. She’s amazing.
Also, I thought up other titles/authors: A Wrinkle In Time (Madeleine L’Engle), Castaway of the Flying Dutchman (Brian Jacques), Louisa May Alcott, Gene Stratton-Porter (Her best are Freckles and A Girl of the Limberlost, also Keeper of the Bees and Laddie.)
This girl is armed with books, coffee, and writing accoutrements!
March 19, 2023 at 3:05 pm #137657Ooo, I’d read some of those. I love Johnny Tremaine and Holes! Also The Light Princess and Trumpet of the Swan. George MacDonald is also a good author.

March 19, 2023 at 4:19 pm #137668Ooh, I love Dune! I started it before I watched the movie, but it’s kind of long.
Lol. Yeah. I went to a coffee shop this afternoon and finished it. Soooo good!!!
What is your book series about?
So my book series is about a girl named Maurine Carlson and her life in New Mexico…in the first book, she moves, goes to a new school, meets new friends, and starts a hawk club. Book two, she becomes a licensed falconer and her Uncle gets married. Book three, she makes her ranch into a dude ranch for city kids. Book four, she gets married, and book five is a summary of her family and extended family. I only have book one written and started on the second. 😆

March 19, 2023 at 4:25 pm #137671@acancello Yesss, the Little Women trilogy is the best! I actually thought Jo’s Boys was another name for Little Men the first time I saw it and didn’t pick it up because of that. XD I know I’m probably not supposed to ask this question, but I’m going to anyhow. 😇 Do you have a favorite of those three?
Also, have you ever read any of Jennifer Nielsen’s books? She’s really good at action/adventure, and some of her books have hints of romance (or half-chapters XP). My favorite books are her Ascendence Trilogy (I’ve never read the fourth and fifth books, since they were added later). But some of her historical fiction is really good too, especially A Night Divided and Words on Fire. Rescue is pretty good too.

March 19, 2023 at 5:49 pm #137678Yes!! I never used to listen to any type of instrumental until I found the fantasy style instrumentals and fell in love with them. 😂 They will really put you in the mood and spark some great inspiration! But I really only use instrumental during writing sessions. Any other time, I like lyrics to sing along with 🙂

@euodia-vision can attest to how good his books are. 😉
My personal favorite is Ground Zero, but Refugee, Projekt 1065, Grenade, and Allies are also really good.
YESYESYES! I love Alan Gratz’s books! My favorite is Allies but Ground Zero is a close second! All of his books are so good! His newest one, Two Degrees, was different from his other books to me but I liked it still!
Some recommendations (I think a lot of these have already been said tho…)
- The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson
- Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (I love all of Tolkien’s books so if you’re up for a difficult read I’d recommend The Silmarillion and The Children of Hurin.)
- Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis
- All of Alan Gratz’s books
- The Bronze Bow by I don’t remember XD
My favorite series are Lord of the Rings, Anne of Green Gables, and The Wingfeather Saga.
