whoa!! He looks really cool! I like the feel!

January 27, 2025 at 1:42 pm #196141I’m left-handed, so I have to do it backwards if I want to avoid smudging my work.
I use gloves. My dad has some thick plastic ones he uses when dealing with drug evidence. (He’s a Detective.) and he let’s me have a pair. They work well. I think you can find gloves like that for working on cars or maybe even cleaning. They’re thicker then medical gloves, but not so thick as the heat-resistant ones some people use to wash dishes. It keeps you’re hand from smudging the drawing or from leaving fingerprints.

If next to us you go
At the dinner table
Be careful of an elbow
And avoid it if you’re able
It’s kind of questionable
If we’re mentally stable…

January 27, 2025 at 3:18 pm #196148@linus-smallprint He looks great! What kinda creature is he? I see he’s kinda like a kentor, but more elk-ish and less man.
The way you did his legs is very cool–digitigrade/unguligrade bipeds are hard (you can ask me, I have four species of d-grades) , but you pulled it off really nicely. I also like how you annotated the fact that his hands are not human.
He doesn’t look completely sinister, but there’s something about him that doesn’t sit quite right.
Yessss this is exactly how he feels. He doesn’t look that evil at first glance, but on closer inspection, you decide there’s something devious about him.

Thank you!
Iskyagus was at one point a kentor. However, he know longer is. More on this soon when I start working on Book II.

Legs are a hard thing to draw. One thing I found useful for that drawing with the side point of view is when I outlined it a drew a line down the center. It passes right between his his knee, ankle(?), and foot, not touching either of them. For the front view, I drew straight lines at different points in his body so I would get the proportions right. Not sure how much sense this makes, it would be easier just to show you. Here:

Interesting. I feel like I would have to get used to that first before I could use it effectively. Another strategy I have heard it put a clean piece of paper between your hand and the drawing.

That’s cool! (Though I bet he has to do some jobs that aren’t very fun, such as that drug evidence you mentioned.)

January 28, 2025 at 1:53 pm #196279@linus-smallprint That’s a good idea; I’ve done the same, but the line is more in my mind than on the paper. I, personally, just imagine whether the creature would be balanced this way.
I’m pretty sure I’ve already posted this one here, but here it is again so I can compare it to yours, since it’s the closest one I have to it. Sniper is kinda in a bent pose and facing more towards us with only his head side-on, but he still looks pretty balanced, right? And now that I look at Medic, whose pose is decently close to Iskyagus’s, in the context of the “invisible line” mentality, I can quite clearly see it there–a little distorted by the fact that his left paw is turned out a bit, but it’s there.
also btw I kinda like how Iskyagus (how do you pronounce that anyway?? lol) has fur over his chest, but not the whole chest. It just…looks cool. Why’s he have antlers on his shoulders and not his head? Was that part of whatever curse made him more animal?

yeah that must be weird.
Apparently it’s possible for creatures to have more than one thumb, though. Chameleons and koalas do.
