This fits the situation I’m writing. Could work as a plot device for something. *Snatches it*
you’re welcome!

“You know you’re a sinner: you’ve figured that part out even though some struggle to do so. But do you know what you became when you accepted Christ, Riker?”
Riker clenched and unclenched his fists, a silent attempt to keep himself steady whilst the room spun. “What?”
“…A son,” Isaiah smiled at him, despite the injuries that littered his body from the horrendous mistake Riker had made, “loved and precious in Jehovah’s sight.”
He grimaced. “I know what being a son is like, Isaiah. It doesn’t go so well.”
“Your Heavenly Father is nothing like your earthly father.”
That was what everyone said, wasn’t it?
But how could he be certain?
There were times when Franz had seemed to be a good father, even times Riker could believe, for just a moment, that the pain was finally over…only for it to begin all over again.
Mercy could indeed last for a moment.
But could it last forever?
“I’ll be back,” Riker rose to his feet and strode to the hospital room door, carefully opening it and stepping out into the hall.
His stomach clenched.
Last he had frequented the halls beneath his feet, his mother had been dying. What he wouldn’t give for one of her hugs and her gentle, loving wisdom.
Riker shoved his hands in his jacket pockets.
It had been nearly ten years. He should have been over it, right?
“How is he?”
Riker jumped and wheeled.
Leon raised a brow and frowned at him, leaning against the wall near the door that led into Isaiah’s room. His frown turned into a scowl. “Well?”
“He’s stable…talking, back to being…Isaiah.”
“He’s not in the clear yet.”
Riker bit his lip. “I know.”
Leon stepped away from the wall. “Are you finished? I came to keep him company.”
He nodded. “I’m done. I–you can tell Isaiah I needed to get back home.”
Leon grasped the door handle. “Works for me. You can’t bother him there,” he opened the door, “or nearly get him killed again.”
The door closed behind Leon, and Riker winced.
Leon was angry…and he had every right to be.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn't hear the music
January 22, 2026 at 10:51 am #210128Ahhh!!! But I need more! lol.
I’m liking the idea of this dynamic between them! It could be a really interesting one!! Just promise me that even though you’ve taken a break you will write this last book. I’ve had authors decide to just leave the final book of a series unwritten as they moved on to something new and I would be so sad if Leon and Riker’s stories were never finished.

January 22, 2026 at 10:53 am #210129@ellette-giselle Yessss the dynamic between them in Book 3 is interesting and very fun to play around with.
Haha don’t worry, I still have full plans to finish their 3rd story. I could never leave their stories unfinished…I love them too much?
I’m *hoping* to maybe try writing Book 3 again a bit later this year but I’m waiting to see what God says first??

January 22, 2026 at 10:54 am #210130Atm He’s been leading me to work on my fantasy trilogy, but slowly giving me small ideas for Book 3 of the Broken & Redeemed Trilogy so I think the time to work on it is coming soon
"…but we are safe, truly and wonderfully safe, when we keep walking with Him.”
January 22, 2026 at 10:55 am #210131I already have a potential blurb and cover for Book 3?

January 22, 2026 at 10:55 am #210133Oh good! So long as their story will be finished I can force myself to wait.

January 22, 2026 at 11:46 am #210156I second the character who has some sort of mask up X person who sees straight through them one. I love those.
Others:
Very Serious Important Character who does Very Serious Important things as part of their Very Serious Important Job, X Goofball who wants to befriend them. (I have a a few couples like that, and the dynamic is really fun)
The two people who everyone knows are together except themselves.
Character who is always put together and dressy X character in mismatched shoes and two different plaids.
Lonely character X big crazy welcoming family character
The terrifying character everyone’s a bit scared of X shy dreamy character. (My sister and I have a duck couple like this. They’re fun to play with)
The sassy old couple who have been married for 50 years.
Character who’s clearly in love X character who can’t stand them (Anne and Gilbert)
Two crazy people who do weird things together. (Tolkien and his wife would go to tea shops, sit in the balconies, and throw sugar cubes into the hats of people below.)
?For our Blessed Lady's sake, bring us in good ale!?
January 22, 2026 at 1:27 pm #210190@theducktator I love all of those but especially the last one haha, I don’t see it much but it’s always so fun.

January 27, 2026 at 12:51 am #210349hmm about the couple dynamics post…
I’ve been really into slow burn couples recently, but I’m not sure how much that would fit your eccentric group. I think I would think of it as what their friendship dynamic is too if that makes sense. Like some of my favorite pairs of characters are non-romantic and thrive off of banter. I think the same dynamics that we like in friendships can exist in romantic relationships too.
There’s two characters in one of the games I’m playing who are both academics and a little bit crazy and this topic made me think of them lol. They both have the same problem of not fitting into society, but because of their different upbringings they take the issue in two very different directions. One is a extreme people pleaser and the other just doesn’t care what people think. They’re like a opposite mirror of each other and it’s a dynamic I really like.
Like they’re friends and we all know it but the way they argue you wouldn’t know until you get to know them. It’s like those couples who have been married forever and complain about everything… I feel like this is a thing?
Oh and if you want eccentric you should definitely have a flamboyant fashion obsessed couple. Like they buy the most expensive things that come down the runway no matter how ugly it is and are convinced they are the height of artistic knowledge. Everyone around them knows they look awful but nobody can say anything bc they are so influential.
Maybe you should have a weapon collector, just thinking of slightly possibly eccentric hobbies? Not that that’s totally eccentric. Maybe they collect not based on the quality of the weapons but because of the events the weapons were involved in. Maybe they can be a bit superstitious about it. (Or maybe I just played a quest with a talking sword that possesses people and that’s still in my mind) They can like, have a sword they pull out of their cane when feeling even slightly threatened, not because it’s good for defense but just so that people can see it and he can precure the image of himself he wants. many years ago when talking about his collection he was questioned on if he was making it up. He then pulled his sword out from his cane and felt so self important as the expressions of those questioning him turned shocked. He has never finished attempting to relive the moment, but the action never quite gives the same reaction these days and therefore he is never fully satisfied. Maybe he claims only his wedding was a better day than that of proving others wrong.
Uhm I had too much fun on this lol

January 30, 2026 at 8:51 pm #210390Thanks for the ideas guys! I like it when I ask a question and people are inspired enough to ramble. (Min, your extended ramble about that weapons collector is so specific and energetic that I should probably include it somewhere.) XD
I am out of signature ideas
February 1, 2026 at 4:11 pm #210430Erm yes I think I may have gotten carried away ? But I had fun so who cares XD
