@savannah_grace2009 (it’s the scene!!) @hybridlore @ummm, anyone, because I can’t remember who all read Worth All the World XD
Working on the third draft of WAtW currently, and I’m adding in a couple of scenes, including this one, inspired by Sara! ?
It’s unedited and I’m still not sure where it’s going to fit exactly, so it might feel clunky, but enjoy anywayyyy ??

Easton tilted his head back, holding back a groan as he studied the smooth ceiling. His stomach rumbled. When would the Baileys be back with food?
Blake and Hallie must have been thinking the same thing. They both let out a sigh at the same time, made eye contact, and burst out laughing.
“Hungry?” Easton guessed.
“Starving.” “I could eat this chair.”
“Well, we could either wait for the Baileys to come back with cold, leftover Thanksgiving food or we can eat nasty hospital food.” Easton raised an eyebrow.
“I’ll take cold turkey over gross sandwiches any day, man,” Blake said with a fake gag. “Will they be here soon?”
He shrugged. “I hope.”
“When will the nurses bring Tyler back?” Hallie’s eyes flitted over to his empty hospital bed.
Easton grabbed the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger. Ugh… His head throbbed. And how was he supposed to know the answer to these questions? “I don’t know, Hal.”
She let out a soft giggle. “You annoyed with me?”
“Why do you say that?” He asked, brow furrowed.
“Because you used my nickname. You, like, never do that.”
Easton managed a breathy, exhausted laugh. She wasn’t wrong. He knew if he didn’t get food in his body soon he’d be a lot quicker to get annoyed. Footsteps hurried down the hall. Easton could only hope—
“We’re here!” The Bailey parents burst into the room, bringing with them the dull scent of cold, late fall air.
“Good.” Blake hurried to help them set the food on the counter. “Easton was starting to bug out.”
“Says the one who just said he wanted to eat a chair.” Hallie rolled her eyes.
“Thanks for bringing the food.” Easton offered the Baileys a smile and grabbed a tray of mac ‘n’ cheese from their hands. “You came just in time.”
All fell silent as the starving watch guards dug into their dinner.
Too impatient to wait ages for the hospital microwave to warm up his food, Easton settled for a lukewarm meal. But it still did it’s job. Within a few minutes, he felt a lot less on-edge and more willing to spend time here.
“Thanks for staying this long,” Mrs. Bailey said, sitting in the chair beside him. “You really didn’t have to.”
Easton shrugged it off. “No biggie. Anything to help.”
“Don’t you still have family in town though?”
“No, they’re all heading out today.”
“So they’re still in town.” Mrs. Bailey cocked an eyebrow.
“Well, not rea—” A crushing hug silenced him. As soon as he registered what was going on, Easton slowly returned Mrs. Bailey’s hug.
“Thank you, Easton. You’ll never know how much of a help and encouragement you—and your whole family—have been to us.”
A smile curled his lips, his heart warming with pride. This is what made it worth it. All the hard work and driving back and forth, gathering meals, raising money, staying up late, getting up early… this is what it was for.
Well, at least partially. It would really all pay off once he saw Tyler healthy and everything back to normal.
So with renewed energy, Easton went into the next week with more determination than ever. Even if that meant doing his homework in a hospital room or tossing in a little more money from his paycheck than planned to meet his fundraising quota, he was determined to make this happen. Because of all his hard work, Tyler would get healthy again. He would make everything go back to being normal.
But even with refreshed motivation, that didn’t make spending time at the hospital any less boring. He tried not to let it show, but even Willow and Ruby were bored after entertaining themselves with their own ideas for the past couple of hours. They were getting antsy, bouncing on the chairs, kicking their legs, climbing all over Easton. Maybe bringing those two wasn’t so great an idea.
“Easton I’m b-o-r-e-d,” Willow whined, dragging out the words.
“I know.” He checked the time on his watch. Mr. Bailey would be off work in half an hour. Tyler had repeatedly told Easton that he didn’t have to stay, but Easton didn’t want Tyler returning to a depressing, empty hospital room after his treatments. So that meant he and the girls had to stay for at least another hour, if too much traffic didn’t hold Mr. Bailey up.
Ruby echoed Willow’s sentiment. “We need something to do.”
The girls began spouting off ideas to each other, but they were all too dangerous or ridiculous for Easton to even acknowledge. He stood to walk around and stretch his legs, ending up leaning against the door frame. He stared out into the quiet, empty hallway. Tapped the toe of his shoes against the shiny linoleum. A tiny squeak echoed through the hallway.
A sudden idea lit up in Easton’s brain—but no, it was too crazy and the girls would be too loud. He turned to watch them bounce from chair to chair. But maybe it was better than them breaking something in this small room.
“Girls, come here.”
Their little faces lit up and they hurried over to the door. “What what what?”
“I came up with an idea. Take your shoes off.”
Willow quickly complied, but Ruby’s face twisted into distrust and confusion. “Why?”
“You’ll see, you’ll see.” He slipped off his Air Jordans and ran out to the end of the hallway, careful not to slip. “Come on!” He waved them over. The girls finally seemed to catch on and hurried to join him.
“I’ll race you!” Willow yelled.
“Shh, shh.” Easton put a finger to his lips over his smile. “We don’t want any grumpy doctors yelling at us to be quiet.”
The girls covered their mouths to hold back giggles.
“Alright on three,” Easton said in a loud whisper. “One… two… three!”
With a few strides for momentum, Easton spread out his feet, spread out his arms for balance, and went flying down the hallway. It was a lore more slippery than he had anticipated, but it proved to be double the fun. Willow and Ruby had tumbled halfway down the hallway in a pile of giggles, and Easton had lost momentum a few feet from the end.
He motioned for the girls to join him at this end. They eagerly joined him again. This time Ruby counted off—and somehow got a head start, contributing to her win this round.
Again and again, they slid back and forth, speeding, tumbling, and laughing. Before he knew it, a whole half hour had passed. Tyler should be getting back from his treatments soon. “Alright, girls, we should probably be done. Tyler will be back any minute now.”
“Aww, just one more?” “P-l-e-a-s-e!” “One more, just one more!”
“Alright, alright.” Saying no would take too much effort. They lined up once more, Willow counting them off this time. And off they went! But as Easton took off, the ding of the elevator drew his gaze up. No! Whoever was coming out of that elevator would be right in their trajectory!
Easton tried to slow down, but everything happened all too fast. The elevator door opened and a nurse pushing a patient in a wheelchair emerged. Easton tried to change his direction without slipping, but he didn’t have enough control. His feet slipped out from underneath him just as he made eye contact with the patient. Tyler!
Laughter burst from Easton’s lips as he fell to the ground with a thud. Willow came flying behind him, tumbling into his lap. It took a few minutes of laughter before Easton could finally come up with a reasonable explanation for Tyler and the nurse. It was good enough for Tyler, who had joined their laughing, but clearly not good enough for the nurse, who now had a permanent scowl and threatened to send up security.
Easton followed the nurse back into the hospital room like an obedient puppy, trying to contain any leftover laughter. As soon as she left, it was another round of laughter as Easton dramatically related the story to Tyler.
He smiled the entire time, but his brown eyes carried a dull, disconnected look. It could have just been a side effect of his treatments and the fatigue finally kicking in… but Easton hated the way Tyler’s smile quickly flickered away as soon as the story was over. This wasn’t normal. After he encouraged the girls to get a drink at the water fountain down the hall, he turned to Tyler, completely serious this time.
“What’s wrong?”
“Just tired.” He shrugged one shoulder. “I didn’t realize how exhausting this could be.”
Easton tilted his head, still unconvinced that that was the entire reason. “Are you sure that’s all though?”
He nodded. When Easton didn’t respond, Tyler finally sighed. “I’m glad you guys were having fun, but I guess I was a little… I don’t know. Jealous?”
“Jealous?”
“Yeah. I can’t do stuff like that anymore Easton.” His voice was small…defeated.
Easton laid on a hand on his shoulder. “Hey, don’t talk like that. You’re going to get better. One day you’ll be sock-sliding down the hallways with us again. I’ll make sure of it.”
The corner of his mouth turned up in a quarter of a smile. “Alright.”
Yes. Easton would be sure to make sure of it. Tyler didn’t deserve this. He was going to win this battle.

(the real ones will know)December 14, 2025 at 9:06 pm #209169I wish I’d thought of that when my grandma was in the hospital, but it was summer, so we were all barefoot anyway. My siblings and I were riding the elevators up and down. They were the fun kind where you could see out of the window.
?For our Blessed Lady's sake, bring us in good ale!?
December 18, 2025 at 4:43 pm #209277Yesss, I love writing little kids. ??

January 21, 2026 at 3:02 pm #210072Hey anyone, I need interesting romantic couple ideas/tropes! I’m writing something that features a bunch of couples for plot reasons (almost every character interaction takes place in a group because of the setting), and I want to have as many interesting dynamics as possible, but my brain’s not working right now.
It’s supposed to be a very fanciful, interesting group of royals, many of them eccentric. They can be good, evil, or anything you think of.
I am out of signature ideas
January 21, 2026 at 4:03 pm #210074@whalekeeper have every couple dynamic I have:
(no idea if this what you mean but I just wanted to rant about this)
- One is a bowl of sunshine and the other seems like EDGY INCARNATE until you realize he’s just really traumatized (Feather and Crosshair)
- Two somewhat-neglected idiots who honestly BOTH need therapy but think being with each other is all the therapy they need (Huntress and Sniper)
- Power couple who started out as basically the one scene in HTTYD2 where Ruffnut is simping over Eret cause of his fighting prowess, then became a Rapunzel and Flynn sorta situation, and then finally turned into a “Well, I guess we’re the rulers of a planet now.” (Nellie and Sennin, you haven’t met them yet but they’re a riot haha)
- The two that were completely unaware that they were getting to be a little more than just friends until one left the group and did her own thing for a while but the whole time was like “Why do I miss him so much?” and when she came back, guilty, he was like “Weird, I felt the same way!” (Hunterheart and Headstriker, they’re new but I love them all the same)
- Literally made to be parents but haven’t had their own kids because they’re too busy cleaning up everyone else’s mess (Liberty and Hunter)
- C H A O S G R E M L I N S (Soldier and his girlfriend–who has a name but that’s not important right now–I guess they don’t count because I didn’t come up with either of them but because I use him a lot I’m throwing him in. She has not shown up anywhere yet but no matter.)
"When in doubt, eat cheese crackers."-me to my charries who don't even know about cheese crackers
January 21, 2026 at 4:24 pm #210078Cool! Those don’t seem too specific to your characters so I can choose what works.
“Why do I miss him so much?” and when she came back, guilty, he was like “Weird, I felt the same way!”
This fits the situation I’m writing. Could work as a plot device for something. *Snatches it*

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn't hear the music
January 21, 2026 at 4:50 pm #210084Hmm. I don’t exactly have that many couples, but here’s some:
- So You Like My Sister? Basically the girl has a twin brother that vets any and all guys in her life. Period.
- Fire and Ice. Fire always seemed to be getting into trouble, but the truth is they’re both into it so deep and it’s probably Ice’s falt. Also, they’re terrifying when teamed together.
- Kinda Arranged Marriage, but She Wasn’t Supposed to Pick Him. As in, girl is given “choices” between suites, and picks the guy at least one of her advisors really just wasn’t planning on. Actually really like this one currently.
- Arranged Marriage but Like, We Arranged it Ourselves Haha. Prince became kind before he’s actually made to marry and so he just courts his childhood crush and is like “I’m king y’all can’t tell me otherwise”.
- Peanut butter and Jelly. One’s a nut. The other’s a nerd.
- Sweet Tarts. Their love language is sarcasm and banter.
A cup of tea is cheaper than therapy.
January 21, 2026 at 5:17 pm #210085-Aggressive and/ or bitter character X their external conscience/ the one person who gives them hope for humanity
-Character who always has some kind of mask up X the person who always sees straight through them
-Loud, small, fearless, chaos gremlin character X Tall, quiet, accidentally intimidating character
Can’t think of very many, but I hope those are good.

January 21, 2026 at 11:15 pm #210086Read Woodhouse.
I do not know what that is
I like several of those. Also the Peanut Butter and Jelly cracks me up because that’s pretty much every influential couple in my life.
-Character who always has some kind of mask up X the person who always sees straight through them
-Loud, small, fearless, chaos gremlin character X Tall, quiet, accidentally intimidating character
These are my favorite writing dynamics already. Not originally for romance, but now that you’ve mentioned them, I could reimagine them.
As a tall girl, I can relate to hanging out with shorter guys, lol. I have known tiny chaos gremlins and they are not for the faint of heart.

Girl. Your education has failed you. Go read some P.G. Woodhouse books, they’re hilarious.

SHAME!!!!
and this is what’s wrong with the word. *sob*

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn't hear the music
