@kathleenramm Hmmm most recently probably comes from my English professor. Probably: “If there’s an upper word count limit then it means that this assignment can be done very well and with quality in this word count or under.” I guess overall, length isn’t everything.
Oh, and there was talk about interpolation and sensory description and…[Read more]

Ohhh that’s a great piece of advice!! I’ll have to try that!
I’m not sure this is really counted as ‘advice’ or not, but once I was talking to my dear friend Elfwing. Now, she’s great at sticking with her world and exploring it in different books, kind of like Tolkien does. I, however, am the exact opposite. For me, there are just so many worlds…[Read more]

What’s the most recent valuable piece of advice you’ve been given about writing?
Almost everything I learned about writing is from my older sister. She’s legit one of my favorite authors and that’s not because she’s my sister it’s because her writing is just that good. So, of course, I often ask her for advice. Recently I asked her if she had a t…[Read more]

Kathleen replied to the topic Have you ever considered writing under a pseudonym, and why or why not? in the forum Topic of the Week 4 years, 1 month ago
Haha, yeah pseudonyms are a great chance to have the name you always wished was yours lol.
Also, I really like the meaning behind your name archer! It constantly gives you the reminder of what you are aiming towards. Plus, it sounds cool which is a bonus.
I 100% agree with you about it being so much easier being…[Read more]

Also, if you just want to skip to the second chapter to read what i wrote, you can. You don’t need to read the first chapter to understand the second chapter.

Hey yo, not-so-secret fam!
Contrary to popular belief, I actually DO write from time to time. And it’s actually REALLY GOOD. No cap. Like, Tolkien’s got nothing on me. C.S. Lewis? He came back from the dead JUST to get my autograph. And Shakespeare has been real quiet ever since I have started writing. And that’s a FACT.
Anywaaaays. I’m gonna…[Read more]

Thanks for helping me understand a bit better!
Also, sorry if I sounded a bit “un-gracious” there, but I guess what I meant wasn’t anything against the author, but the story. (I’m also a terrible writer, and it would indeed be bad news for me if the notion of improvement didn’t exist). So to rephrase: If the characters, world, an…[Read more]

And yeah, you’re definitely keeping your priorities straight. Books are most important.
(p.s. I don’t scare my friends by threatening them with weapons or anything. I just find them so cool that it freaks my friends out a little)

Totally not just a guy thing. I’m a girl, and I love weapons, like to the point that it scares my friends, and my boyfriend gave me a knife that he made as a gift. I have questions about this all the time, so I will definitely be back here.
First question. Why is a lightsaber a terrible weapon?

@kathleenramm i have considered it but I guess i feel fake using it. no offense to those who use them! they’re super cool.also i havent had much luck with them; very embarrassingly, the few i HAVE thought of I’ve thought of are used by authors of books i wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole XD
so i abbreviated my real name; I. L. Tanis. its weird…[Read more]

@kathleenramm I use a pen name, since I don’t really like other people knowing my real name, though for pieces I write in real life situations I use my real name. I think it’s cooler to have a name that I chose for myself, and it gives off the kind of vibe I want to give off.

Have you ever considered writing under a pseudonym, and why or why not?
I have considered it, and I have done it… multiple times. For novels I will probably always stick with my real name, however I pretty much always use pseudonyms for short story contests I participate in online. Mainly Reedsy’s short story contests as they have cool weekly…[Read more] - Load More
