It is for beginners but at the same time, I would totally recommend it to any writer looking to improve. It is a very solid curriculum.
I don’t think they were cheezy. At least I do not remember them being cheezy at all. (It has been a little under two years since I took the curriculum. )
This year will be my third time going to the Summer workshop(And hopefully my first Winter Workshop[WW are geared toward +18 students.]) and I can say with all honestly that it has been some of the most amazing days of y life.
They have great speakers who are completely open and focused on helping the students. You can have lunch with them, or a mentor session or just catch them walking around and talk to them. The sessions are really great and helpful and they have a few +18 sessions as well for the more advanced writers.
There are mandatory critique groups each day(Except for Monday and Saturday.) where you critique other students excerpts of Poetry, short stories, or cuts from their novels and have your own critiqued and it is one of my favorite parts. (You do not have to bring something to be looked at but you must attend critique group.)
Besides all of that, there are other activities and games that the students arrange. (And there is a lot of cosplaying which is always fun.[it’s normal to dress as your own characters.])In order to attend an OYAN workshop, you must be a registered student. But yeah, I totally recommend the whole thing.
Hope this helps.
and it is a lot of outlining but it is really good practice and discipline to help your writing habits, so it’s not pointless. I wasn’t burnt out but rather readier than ever to jump in.
(And oh my gosh I love Nadine Brandes and like she’s going to be at the SW again this year and I am very excited. *cough* Okay, sorry. I’ll stop rambling now. )

Sorry I’m so behind on this @Daeus I’ll go ahead and post the link around a few social meidias(Including OYAN ) probably tomorrow or so.
I kind of want to just refer to all of my writing today. “So how was your day? do anything productive?”
“Well… I pretty much just floated around in my lake that I should be moving, but you know… I’ll get around to it.”Huh, I’ll have to check it out. 🙂
@david oh wow, that’s really cool looking! Great job with the coloring. I really need to practice more with colored pencils, I lean towards markers more. But I really love how this looks. The falcon’s face looks awesome and I really like the sky.
These are awesome! So pretty!
@daeus Thank you for the feedback, that’s actually really helpful for consideration.
@kate-flournoy Thank you so much for the art tips!!!
Thank you both for looking at this and giving me feedback. I really appreciate it a lot! (and sorry for being so late to reply.)I live in Indiana! Everyone’s saying they live in the best state. I’ve only ever lived in two so I guess I’m not the best judge of things, but I have to say Indiana is pretty great. I love it here. (I am never moving back to Florida ever.)
With all the pages here I don’t really have the time to read it all, but skimming through a few, it’s really cool to see how wide spread some of you are. (I almost said “How wide spread you KPers are.” But I’m not sure that’s the right term. @hislittlerose What do you call people on this forum??? XD )*squints at name* HC… You love the country… Are a Christian… Have an awesome family… Are you… Me from an alternat university? Please tell me your last name isn’t Carmichael because this seems to coincidental. XD
Hi, I am also Hannah C, but you can call me Hannah or WaterSnail or Snail. Whatever you want to call my is fine.
How long have you been writing and what genere do you write?Hi! I’m Hannah, or WaterSnail or snail. Whatever you want to call me is fine. It’s nice to meet you. 😀
So what got you into writing then?@Rolena Yes! And guess what??? I actually finally finished it today! 😀 (well the first draft anyway. There’s plenty of editing to do.) it’s so weird.
Oh nice! Do you have anything published or plan to publish any of them? And if so, what do you lean towards, Traditional publishing or self publishing? Just wondering. (Yes, I really should read some of my old stuff some time…)@Rachel I aprove of this reaction very muchly.
Unfortunately the hermit doesn’t belong to me. I saw a guy wearing it and ran up and begged to try it on. And he was kind enough to do so. It was the most fabulous 3 minutes of my life. A was burdened with glorious helmet.
The short explanation: it’s about A boy who lives on a future city in the sky that is collapsing and he must find a way to stop it falling so he escapes to the surface to find a way to save the upperworld(and obviously the people living under it who would be crushed.) and unlock the secrets of his past.
I just finished the first draft today, which is supper crazy because idk, I’m just excited. It ended up being 81,600 words long.
What about you? Are you working on any books right now?Lol nice to meet you. 🙂 XD (Aye mate-y, I c’an see why ye may be led to feel that’way. 😉 I usually feel more like a gangsta or something when I use it. )
Ummmm I think I started writing short stories(really silly scribbles. They’re really awful. XD) when I was about 6ish but didn’t really become interested in writing until I was 13 and wrote my first book. Took me about a year, and it is really bad and I will never let it see the light of day again, but it was the beginning. ^_^ I am working on finishing the first draft of my first actual novel that I’m seriously about. I’m only a few chapters from finishing it.
And you? -
