I believe you mean Arcanum Unbound. (Are Arcanum is the appendix at the end of each book, supposedly written by the protagonist of White Sands.) I forget about the Stormlight novellas. Those would be good options for me. Is Secret History in Arcanum Unbound?

Yes, SH seems to be quite important.

Yeah. It’s hard for me to just jump into a new series when I’m in the middle of one, even though Stormlight 5 won’t be out for over a year. (😭) I started reading Warbreaker since it’s available online, but I haven’t gotten far.

I haven’t read any of WaW actually. @highscribeofaetherium has, and she thinks it isn’t as good as the original trilogy. I’ll read it eventually I’m sure, but for now it isn’t a concern for me.

In his own words, he’s taking his gloves off, starting with Wax and Wayne 4, Lost Metal, which you need background primarily from Elantris and Stormlight.
Huh. I thought that he wasn’t going to require outside information until Mistborn era 4 and Dragonsteel.

Yeah, I know not all of his stuff is in the Cosmere, but I think it’s the only universe that contains multiple other series. It has Mistborn, Stormlight, Warbreaker, Elantris, White Sands, and a few minor works, I believe, whereas his other universes each contain only one series. There’s the Rithmatist and his Cytoverse series,…[Read more]

Will I be completely lost if I read that one before Elantris?? I’ve read the other 3 Wax and Wayne books and will probably be reading the 4th soon… should I read Elantris first??

Has anyone taken Sanderson’s official Knights Radiant quiz. (You answer questions and it tell you which order you would most likely be in.)

He is in metallurgical engineering, so more of the chemistry and post-apocalyptic things. And planet colonizing I believe.
I haven’t really done a lot of worldbuilding at this point, other than places and traditions and stuff. I would probably lean more toward soft worldbuilding because I would rather spend more time in the book…[Read more]

I haven’t put much thought into it, but, thinking of it like a computer program, it would basically be a set of instructions or rules, and they might have ‘glitches’ as a result of unnoticed errors in logic or something.

I’m guessing that the reason the subjects isn’t ever really approached is that if humans can create magic systems, then there must be an underlying magic that lets them do that, which would have to be pretty technical.

With the Cosmere, it would actually be kind of weird if there wasn’t a God, given that several characters wonder it. Dalinar’s for one, and also Sazed (idk if you’ve read Mistborn.) It would be strange if the answer was “Nope! Sorry, guys, you’re on your own.”

I think human designed magic systems is an interesting ideas. It’s funny how some magic systems seem like they must be, but it’s never stated. For example, how did the magic in Harry Potter come about? It includes a lot of words based on Latin, which would imply that it was created by humans. I can’t think of anything that actua…[Read more]

I can respect that. It bothers me, but I get over it. At this point, I’m just interested to see how he completes his arc in the 5th book, given where he is at the end of RoW. I have some thoughts about that, but I won’t say anything now, since you haven’t gotten to RoW yet.

Okay. That makes sense. So with this idea, there would be paradoxes in the magic system that cause it not to work right? That is a cool idea. That gives me another interesting idea. What if there was a magic system that worked like a computer system, including glitches? Maybe a world where people have to somehow design magic…[Read more]

The principles of fall and atonement do apply to this universe, but I’m not sure how much it will be talked about in stories, because they are so important that I’m not sure if I could without being preachy.
Brandon Sanderson said that he isn’t going to talk about the afterlife in the Cosmere, though he’s implied that there i…[Read more]

Yeah, I think your right about that. My issue is that realistic-ness doesn’t justify a boring story. Kaladin’s depression continues throughout the entire series, and in my opinion that is the problem. It feels like he goes through the same arc over and over. I can’t really say that it is a problem in any specific book, thoug…[Read more]
