They are called a filly or Colt until over three years of age. But at one year they are yearlings, instead of foals apparently.

@seekjustice I’m an American horse person… And an American cat person… 🙁 ( 😛 )
Foal – Baby horse under one year (I think it’s one year)
Filly – Female foal
Colt – Male foal
But some people are named Colt. 🙂
