@seekjustice What type of tartan do you wear? (The different ones mean different things, right?)
Haha, I’m an amazing procrastinator too! 😀

@seekjustice I got notified this morning of a random post from you about sewing lacy petticoats…
I think you meant to tag @valtmy 😉 I was very confused for a bit! Actually I got on KP expecting to see a hilarious picture of a quite ruined lace petticoat sort of like this:

I hope you’ve been able to figure out how to complete the project…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Oh, and every time I read your title I start singing “It’s a Big, Wide, Wonderful World.” 😛

@jenwriter17 I like it!
Your poem has a much better chance of getting accepted by SE than any of mine do, because yours has meaning, while all mine are silly, empty comic poems. 😛 So congratulations on that! 😀
I don’t know much (anything 😉 ) about free verse, so I can’t give you a lot of suggestions. There are a couple of lines that don’t q…[Read more]

@seekjustice I’m not going to be on anymore tonight. So I’ll talk to you later. Bye!

@seekjustice Oh, that’s so cool!
It is very similar to the American lists, but not identical by any means. 😉
I’ve got to disappear for a bit, but I’ll be back in perhaps 45 min or an hour, if you’re still here.

@seekjustice I see. 🙂
I’ve found a few Australian authors from the time period. Some of their books are on Gutenberg, so you could look them up if you’re interested. I have no idea whether they’re good or not, but I strongly hold that the absolute best way to research for a historical time period is to read stuff actually written in the time p…[Read more]

@seekjustice Cora sounds Irish to me. Is it?
Let me know if you do find any Australian lists, won’t you? I couldn’t find any, and I’d be interested in seeing what differences there were. I guess you’d have access to some different sites in Australia?

Rochellaine replied to the topic Writers' Corner #20 in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 11 months ago
@seekjustice Okay, here’s a list:
- Mona
- Lillian/Lilian
- Nan (this is a nickname for Anne)
- Elsie/Elise
- Marie (This pronunciation was made fun of so much that there’s even a song about it. 😛 “Mary’s a Grand Old Name” by George M. Cohan. It was an extremely popular name, but – at least in America – because it was the French p…

@seekjustice Cool! 🙂
I have a couple of comments/questions:
Your book is set in Australia, right? What social class is your character in?
In most of the books I’ve read that were written in that time period, the more “unique/fancy” names like Lilian, Ethel, and Evelyn were often made fun of by the people who preferred more “sensible” names…[Read more]

@seekjustice Yes, in America voting is not required. Our voting laws are really weird and confusing, actually.
Ah, I see.
😛
@ariel-ashira Haha. 😛
I’m actually really sleepy. Had a long day. So I’m going to depart now. Talk to you all soon, hopefully!

@jenwriter17 Goodbye! 🙁
@seekjustice I don’t believe so. What exactly are they about? When we’re eighteen in America we sign up to vote, and the guys have to sign up for the draft. But you can sign up to vote when you get your driver’s license too, so I signed up when I was sixteen instead of when I turned eighteen. And since I was born in…[Read more]

@seekjustice The biggest thing I noticed when I turned eighteen was that my parents could no longer sign me up for things. I had to sign for myself. And I had to carry my ID everywhere or I couldn’t get in places, since I could no longer be called a child and enter with my parents. 😉
What sort of forms are you filling out?
Haha, I’ve heard t…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 😀 😀 How’s it going?
@seekjustice Pretty good, generally, but with my writing…not so great. Why can’t NaNoWriMo come sooner?? I need word wars!! 😛
How are you doing?

@xonos-darkgrate Jen says “hi.”

Uh, yeah, that one’s pretty ridiculous. But then, I like ridiculous. 😉
Haha, I suppose that’s true.
Ooh! That sounds like it’d be pretty! I’ll definitely have to look it up. Have you ever heard “Iain Ghlinn Cuaich”? That one has a lovely tune. Another Scottish song I really like is “Are Ye Sleeping Maggie?”

@seekjustice Okay, I’ll look it up sometime and let you know if I like it. 🙂
“Go Home with Bonnie Jean” is so much fun! I love bouncy Celtic style songs. Do you know any Scottish Gaelic songs? I know a couple, but I’m sure my pronunciation is horrible! 😛
