@kate-flournoy and then, maybe, if the Prince is mentioned in future novellas (like when He comes back) I’ll use capital pronouns. But I don’t want it to seem like He became something else by dying…

@Hope I think that would work. I really do. Because when you think about it, (I assume you’re talking about Song of the Sword here) since the Prince was down amongst the people as one of them, it makes sense that he would be considered one of them. If you don’t capitalize it, the sense of him becoming one of them is intensified.

Here’s the deal, when I talk about the King, I have His pronouns capitalized. In the next novella, I’ll have the allegorical equivalent of the Holy Spirit and those pronouns will probably be capitalized. However, in my current novella, I’d like it to be subtler. Not that there’s anything worshipful in the form of a letter or that it is wrong to do one or the other, but visually, His is more impressive and impacting than his. @overcomer Oh, I know. 😉 And yet, I find that quite a bit (not always…he’s wrong sometimes) the most likely thing is really the thing to have happened does happen. But there’s plenty of other stuff he does which is very clever. I love how he gets people to tell him things…though that’s later in the book. 😉

Sherlock would say he never guesses, @hope . He makes observations and deduces from them. When there are several possible deductions to make he chooses the most likely based on the facts. So there is very little guesswork involved. It is more clever thinking. 😉

Hmm, Sherlock’s detective style. I like the cold, hard, logical approach as opposed to some detective stories where quite a bit of it is a hunch. That being said, there are many things Sherlock figures out which I think are quite lucky guesses. Don’t get me wrong, he’s very smart and there are lots of things people can figure out by observation…[Read more]

I haven’t read Sign of Four before, but I’m thinking that Watson’s attraction to Mary is entwined with the main story plot somehow, like Sarah said. I also think it serves to contrast Watson’s character and Sherlock Holmes’s character. Watson is much more emotional and open about his emotions, whereas Holmes doesn’t have much emotion at all.…[Read more]
