@Kate: lol! Yes, you are definitely in good company. Awesome, thanks for the suggestion. That was one of the lines I was actually poking with like “why are you not doing the things I want you to do, hmm?” I also don’t drink coffee (well, I kind of don’t– like, only when someone’s like “let’s go get coffee” and it’s a social obligation), but…[Read more]

Hi all!
Here’s another poem that I wrote a little while ago. I’d love to hear what y’all think! Specifically on line breaks (again– see a pattern) as well as if there are any lines that seem irrelevant or out of place. Thanks! Y’all rock.

Haha! I feel that. Sometimes, too, I want to write a poem, but I sit down and I’m like “Nope, not happening” even though there’s a rant eeking to get out of me. xD

Looks good, Daues! Can’t wait to read the finished product.
Something I do see off hand is there is a ” missing from the like He lives,” sing the leaves.

Sarah Spradlin replied to the topic Help with titles in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 1 month ago
Hi there, Ivy! Thanks for asking this question. 🙂 I like the second group of titles the best. I think that they’ll be easier to remember, for one thing, and they sound a little cooler and mysterious than your first group. I’m also always a fan of one word titles 😉 but that’s just personal preference. I don’t think it’s a bad thing that your…[Read more]

Hi, Kate! I love this poem! It was very raw and descriptive, which I love! Keep it up! I agree with @Daeus; most of my “best” poems happen in the spur of the moment. 😀

“Speak of Love much greater than me”
Might’ve been better as two lines, but oh well. xD

Sarah Spradlin replied to the topic Is it Possible? in the forum Novel Idea Critiques 9 years, 1 month ago
Definitely a really interesting question, Shaina! I’d say the answer to this question, too, (in writing, albeit) is always yes. For me, the real question is usually “Is it possible to do it well?/Do I think I can do this well?” And if that’s the case, then DO IT! Another couple of helpful questions are “Why do I want to do this?/Is it…[Read more]

Sarah Spradlin replied to the topic Book Name in the forum Novel Idea Critiques 9 years, 1 month ago
Jumping back a bit to the “original question,” I’ve always really liked the idea of names as titles (if it fits), and Edwin Brook has a pretty awesome ring to it, so I’d say it fits. 🙂 If not the title of the whole book, definitely like the title of Chapter 1 or the prologue. *nodding*

@Hope — Dudette, that one is pretty deep. I’m sitting here thinking through it (which for me is the sign of a good poem). I always want to leave the reader with something to puzzle out or think on (again, that’s just me. :P) I definitely like poem as a whole. It reads a little bit choppily, but I think that helps to give this impression of two…[Read more]

Sarah Spradlin replied to the topic Queens? in the forum Novel Idea Critiques 9 years, 1 month ago
Hi, Jada!
This is a question that I’ve struggled with a lot myself, and it’s one of my ongoing investigations. For me, the answer is yes. The MC in my current WIP is the heir-apparent and will be queen of a nation. So, for me, I think it’s is totally okay and cool to have a queen or princess in your book who leads. I don’t think there’s a problem…[Read more]
