I find doing sort of “mini-plots” on sticky notes and just tossing ideas around is really helpful for pushing through the uninspired bits.

If obsessively rewatching Prince Caspian and The King’s Speech counts as prep, I’m doing brilliantly 😛

@seekjustice It’s coming along okay. It’s hard for me to outline when I don’t have a spurt of inspiration and a rush of creativity, so sometimes I’m forcing myself to make sure I’m ready for NaNo. But it’s going pretty good. 🙂 I’m still not sure if my schedule will allow me to do NaNo this year, but we’ll see. i’ll keep you posted 😉

I really love music by Helen Jane Long, Ludovico Einaudi, and the Piano Guys. I’ve heard a little bit of Yiruma too, and Audiomachine is awesome for making playlists to listen to while book writing.

Ah, that’s the self-criticism talking, isn’t it?

FYI: My WIP is about a queen that falls from grace and goes into hiding… and does that by hiding in plain sight as a rising star in the local theatre scene and waging a propaganda war with her enemies. Ridiculous, yes, but I suppose whether it is lame or not is a matter of preference. 😛

I’m the opposite. I can’t get anything finished without planning. Though I still have days when I have no idea what’s happening next.

Well…I do believe there’s a difference between purposeful ridiculousness and lame ridiculousness, which in all likelihood is what my stories are.

For me, I will never get anything done if I sit down to do careful planning and plotting (e.g. I have planned out quite a few things for my adventure/fantasy story and written about 7 chapters but it’ll take forever to plan out the rest because it’s quite the sweeping epic). Self-criticism has got to be the worst thing about being a writer…or being a human really.

I’m a bit of an obsessive plotter for that very reason. I tend to get lost otherwise and end up with ridiculous plots. Or lack thereof.

Well, maybe I’m just being too critical of myself. All part of being a writer. Once I get the scenes done, I’ll post them for review to see what you guys think.

But for now I am stuck with these problematic scenes. It is not about me having trouble resisting the urge to edit but more that I haven’t planned everything in my plot out…[Read more]

I think I’ve told you this before. The scenes that were cute in my head don’t seem to turn out as cute when I write them. 🙁
