*high-fives and ice cream all around* All of this is awesome advice!! If he had a few secrets, that would fit his character perfectly. He’s the lord of a small manor, so he could constantly be dealing with “stuff” that everyone assumes has something to do with the manor. Ooh, and there are other…[Read more] -

See title. So, I’ve got a character who I really want people to like. So it will be really dramatic when I reveal he’s evil! (MWAHAHAHA!) Ok, a little backstory; My MC, Dianne, has two brothers. (she also has a sister, but that’s beside the point.) Her oldest brother, Wyatt, is nice enough, but irresponsible, unpredictable, and really bad at…[Read more]

@PrincessFoo Exactly! Or when you finish a really good book and you just close it and stare at the wall for a minute, trying to process everything you learned about writing from it. I don’t know if anyone else does this, but I do all the time. I also feel like I should warn my family that I may randomly burst out in tears or laughter thinking…[Read more]

I’m rewriting a chapter if anyone’s on.
I’m here to talk if anyone wants to, too. I’m bored…hate editing.

@princessfoo Yeah, elemental powers have been done a lot, but I’m enjoying this new spin on it.
What do you mean by cliche? There aren’t a whole lot of stories with elemental powers. I mean, I can think of a few, and even @kate-flournoy is working on something along those same lines, but everyone does it differently. Everyone visualizes–and…[Read more]

@princessfoo And now for the long delayed response. So sorry. I just completely kept putting this off. Not anymore!
As for your character, here are just a couple pointers. Often I’ve seen that characters who are quieter and have a lot of problems tend to be weak and not very attractive. This totally does not need to be the case, but it can be if…[Read more]

@princessfoo You don’t have to directly portray God either. You could follow C.S. Lewis’ example and do something like Aslan…

@princessfoo Certainly. It’s not easy, but it is doable and you’ll be very glad for the effort. May I ask what it is the characters struggle with?

@princessfoo Neat story concept.
It’s good to have God be part of our stories. It’s not essential or even always the right thing to do, but since he created the world, rules the world, and most stories don’t have Him in them, I think it’s a noble goal.
On the other hand, I’m not a big proponent of making God essentially a character of your…[Read more]

@PrincessFoo, that was one of the first things I thought to check. . . no luck. It had everything up until the place I stopped at the night before, but nothing from that day. Which did mean I only lost 3,000 words instead of 15,000, but still.
@Emma-Flournoy, I have so far managed to evade the bear. He may be catching up, though, as I discovered I…[Read more] -

@ethryndal You have perfectly summed up my feelings for Darth Vader. I think it’s that part of him that is the true super villain everyone loves. Once you knew about Ani, though….*grimace* That scene at the end RO was truly terrifying.
