You know you are a writer when you are thinking about donating blood, see that doctors warn that you may faint afterwards, and hope that you actually do faint, so that you would know what it is like and could write about it realistically.

You know you are a writer when you read a book where a character you like dies unexpectedly, and one part of you is going, “NO! Not her! Why, author, why?!” and the other part is thinking, “Wow, impressive plot twist. I should learn from this.” -

I read the docs. Good job! I liked Ava a lot, and Kara. I thought the writing was good too. I just had a couple thoughts.
– When the Warden speaks over the loudspeakers, Kara automatically assumes it is the Warden, and is surprised. But if it is unlikely that the Warden would speak to them directly, then why does she think it is him, and not just…[Read more]

@that_writer_girl_99 I’ve been reading what you and @kate-flournoy have been discussing, and while I didn’t actually read the Google Docs, I think you have a cool story going on. Elemental powers are a bit cliche, but I like the idea of a prison, with the Warden actually trying to protect the prisoners.
I know this hasn’t really been what you…[Read more] -

@That_Writer_Girl_99 I’m not a crazy LOTR fan, but I’ve read the books and seen the movies. I’m not a huge fan of epic fantasies, but I like elves, dwarfs, orcs, dragons, and that sort of thing. Also, I think the Shire would be an AWESOME place to live.

*Sigh* I wish I was an elf. I’ve always liked the Shire though. Maybe I can be one of those Rangers that guard the Shire. Does anyone know where the sign-up sheet for the Rangers of the North are?I love How It Should of Ended! My favorites are the ones for the first two Captain America movies.

You know you are a writer when you are eating out, see a slightly discolored liquid in your pasta, and think “Ah! Poison!”
You know you are a writer when your friend gives you a big old-fashioned key on a necklace, and you vow to keep it with you at all times in case you go on an adventure and it turns out to be really important.

Thank you @daeus and @the-impossible-girl! I am sure your suggestions will help a lot. I will talk things over with my cousin, and decide what to do, but seriously, thank you so much for the suggestions.

@daeus
I am co-writing this story with my cousin, @revayah1, and we each have a main character. My character in particular struggles with shyness, and discernment, and her’s struggles with being too hard on herself, and places too much responsibility on herself.
We have discussed what we want the story’s theme to be, (true strength. Not what the…[Read more] -

Thank you @daeus
I am planning on God not being a character as you described. The main characters are believers from the beginning of the story, but they aren’t perfect in their faith, and struggle to figure out how the events in the story match what they believe.
I agree with your comment on Christian stories today. That is one of the reasons I…[Read more]

I am writing a fantasy story in a Victorian era world, and I am having some trouble figuring out how to portray God. God is so essential to everything! He is in how we think about ourselves, how we think about the world, whether we are afraid of death. I can’t just leave Him out!
So now I am trying to figure out how to portray Him. Do I have a…[Read more] -

Oh no! That is so awful! I hope you feel better, and what you write next is even better than before!
I work on Google Drive too. Did you try the revision history? It is under the file tab, under “see revision history” It keeps track of what you have written over time, and you can go back to copies of work that you have written and since changed.…[Read more]

@Shaina Yes!
@dragon-snapper I joke sometimes that I should put “Good at procrastinating” on my future resume, next to “Good at quoting myself in academic essays” and “Good at coughing” (I had pneumonia a couple years ago, and the doctor said that I was good at coughing correctly.)

You know you are a writer when it bothers you to read poorly written books, but at the same time it gives you hope because you realized that if this person could get published, then you can too.

You know you are a writer when you rewrite books that you have read, and put a different ending in your mind and/or write them from the point of view of a side character or villain.

@Ethryndal I didn’t experience it in that way, but that does make sense.
But there was that scene when Krennic was delivering some bad news to Darth Vader, and didn’t die, or even get demoted, and he said something like, “Wait, I am still in charge of the Death Star?” Then Vader started choking him. In that scene, I was almost rooting for…[Read more] - Load More
