Okay, so, some others might have already said this (I kind of didn’t read through all of the answers) so my apologies if I’m just repeating the same stuff. But as Joy Caroline said a big thing to watch out for is info dump. Don’t just tell the reader everything that’s has happened. Backstory can come later if/when needed. Only show what…[Read more]

@gracie-j I love every single time period you just mentioned XD I’ve been super interested in pirates lately, but more towards the beginning of the 1800s. I’ve yet to write a pirate book yet, though. Soon hopefully! I’ve tried writing a story set in the Wild West but I never finished it.
You should definitely read The Miraculous Journey of…[Read more]

@nova21 Okay, so I’m actually working on rewriting my beginning right now as well XD It’s really hard so I understand your problem! Last week I watched a webinar with Nadine Brandes and Sara Ella about writing your first chapter and it was FANTASTIC so I’ll share some of my notes with you!

The Young Writers Workshop has helped me A TON in my writing. It’s kind of expensive (same price as hope*writers, I believe) but it was totally worth it in my opinion. K. M. Weiland’s blog is also really helpful. 🙂

I really like using Scrivener and ProWritingAid. I also use Abbie Emmons’ 3-Act Story Structure worksheet and How to Write a Novel Using the Snowflake Method by Randy Ingermanson.
I also have a second blog with a page for a bunch of resources (click here). 🙂

EpicAddie2 replied to the topic Subgenres–Helpful or a Hindrance? in the forum Fantasy 5 years, 3 months ago
@larchness This is a good question! Personally, I feel like trying to fit your story into a specific subgenre could be really difficult and limiting. My novel is historical fantasy — kinda. It breaks some of those “rules” because it actually takes place in a different world, but it’s based on America in the Victorian era. I didn’t necessarily…[Read more]

EpicAddie2 replied to the topic What's your biggest excuse for not writing? in the forum Topic of the Week 5 years, 3 months ago
@kathleenramm Likewise! Lately though it’s been my laptop that’s the biggest distraction. Which is a problem because my novel is on my laptop. *facepalm* Before, I could just turn my phone off and write on my laptop for hours but now I get so distracted. :/ I’m trying to work on that though.

@abigail-m Wow, that’s actually super cool! It’s awesome that you were able to find the perfect location. I’ve always been kind of interested in the cultures of people in really cold places like Norway and Russia. I’m not sure why XD Someday I’d like to write a story in that setting!
