@Mark-McGuire— yes! They did it without any of the fancy modern computer stuff, and in consequence it looked amazingly real. That’s a win for the cinematographers, though, not the storytellers! But yes, it’s great. It definitely contributes to the overall quality of the experience.
Hey, what are your thoughts on C3PO, guys? He’s a droid— not…[Read more]

Good, Hannah! So… who was your favorite character? 😛
And wasn’t the end scene absolutely mind blowing?

You know you are a writer when you hear a song and go, “Oh! That would go perfect in that one scene I am working on!”
YES! YES YES YES! Absolutely!

Yes! I completely know what you mean. It can actually be annoying to think of something new every time you go somewhere different. 😛

Right! Exactly. I think the thing is just to give their thoughts enough of an odd, twisted, different feel, that you kinda get the idea of what they look like just from being inside their minds. Also you could write a vain dragon— always preening over their beautiful scales, their wings, their tail, their claws… actually it would be pretty fun…[Read more]

I agree, Hope. There isn’t a difference that I’m aware of.
I don’t think you should probably use an assassination to start off a rebellion though, just because assassination without declared war is little more than murder.

Yes, definitely. Not a whole lot of foreshadowing with anything— a few vague, disquieting hints here and there, but otherwise you’re left on your own and the discovery is all yours when it comes.

@Rosey— yes! My siblings and I do that ALL THE TIME! When I first started writing it was just me all alone in my family, and no one else really interested in it (thinking, no doubt, ‘Oh boy, another one of Kate’s crazy projects— it’ll blow over in time’ 😀 ) but now that the novels have been getting progressively higher quality, we can talk…[Read more]

So I am one of those weird people who likes to analyze even the most basic of stories. Pick ’em apart and see what makes ’em good— or bad. Either way. 😀
And I got to wondering, why do so many people (myself included) love Star Wars so much? I mean, as far as plot goes, it doesn’t get much more typical than that. I’ve only seen ‘A New Hope’…[Read more]

@Hope— yes, there does seem to be a trend towards good dragons. Because first there was a trend for bad dragons… and then people started trying to break the cliche… and now that is becoming cliche… so I guess you could say my dragons are bad in anticipation of the flipping of the cliche again. 😛
Okay— not really.
But seriously,…[Read more]

You know you’re a writer if you would give even a moment’s serious consideration to dressing up in full costume and going out just to see how many people looked at you funny.
You know you’re a writer when you mentally rephrase all billboards on the side of the road to sound more dramatic, be more concise, and more grammatically correct.
When…[Read more]

I’ve not read ‘After the Flood’ yet, but I’m hoping to soon! My sister only just finished it, and she had to share some of the dragon stories with me. I agree. Absolutely mindblowing.
As to writing dragons, I have both kinds. Lizards, and magical dragons. The magical dragons were once only lizardy dragons, but… um… something happened to them…[Read more]

Hey, I like that one. Poor guy— I hate math, so I sympathize with him. The drama was good. Not overdone— just what someone who hated math would feel like.
Take it from an expert.

See that’s funny— I didn’t even think of evolution vs. creation. 😀
I’ve not done one for this week’s prompt yet. I’m working on it, and I don’t know that I’ll be able to come up with something original enough to embarrass myself by submitting…
