@linus-smallprint Kinda.
So in my current WIP, which is a fanfic but I might set some original stories in the same universe, instead of the Earth as one planet, it’s a whole galaxy, and each planet roughly corresponds to a country in our world. The different species I told you about in the other forum–Drachenheul, Argonites, Changelings,…[Read more]

Aaron might see him as a little brother, but to Joseph Aaron stepped into the place of father when Joseph’s own father died on the walls. I think it might have been more of a big brother little brother relationship if Aaron hadn’t of been right there to fill that gap when Joseph lost his father.
Noah and Darrien have more of a…[Read more]

Noah’s trickery, which he learned when gambling, has now become a way to entertain children. I like it!
YES! That’s what I was thinking!
Ah, the little boy who knows everything and has a ‘simple’ solution to every problem. I know this character. Remind me, how old is Joseph? 10 or 11, right?
haha! I LOVE Joseph. He is so funny…[Read more]

Ok, here is the next section.
One night, as Aaron sat studying his Bible in the room he shared with Noah and Darrien, a timid nock came on the door.
“Come in,” said Aaron, without looking up.
The door creaked open and quiet steps pattered across the floor and came to the small table where Aaron sat. A hand tou…

K, I added anther as well.
One afternoon Aaron and Noah returned from doing a few odd jobs for a friend in exchange for a new pair of boots. When they came in sight of the orphanage, the door crashed open and out tumbled Joseph and several other boys. “Noah! Noah do a trick!” cried Asher.
“A trick?” asked Noah. “…

It looks like you two are the only ones left! I wrote a short scene to fill in the gap left by time passage, and I wondered what y’all thought.
It wasn’t long before Darrien came home with a little boy and girl in tow. They were twins, about nine or ten years old.
Aaron and the rest were in the kitchen talking when D…

Yes, Friedrich does train with a sword. I thought I described it already…. Let me go take a look.
Ok, yes, silver hilted when he’s a prince, and gold hilted with a sapphire settings when he’s a king. I wish I could send a picture of the stile.
HEY!!!!! PICTURES!!!! YAHOOOOOO!!!!
Ok, this would be what I patterned his swo…[Read more]

“Imagining alterations” Kinda ups the creepy level in my opinion. It sounds pretty demonic and/or weird spiritual. I mean, saying “casting spells” gives us something to work off of. say “Imagining alterations” and that leaves our imagination to do the rest. I say leave it the way it is.

@linus-smallprint wow I kinda love the altered creation-evolution debate dynamic to include your magic system, that’s cool.
Also, those particular powers you mentioned that are in the books are stuff I’d be perfectly fine with if I saw it in a story. It’s actually the exact kind of thing my brother and I came up with for one of our stories.

Hmm, I would say it isn’t the book’s fault ever. I mean, you chose what to put before your eyes, and that was your doing. The book didn’t open up, shove itself in for face, and force your brain to read the words.
This is what I mean. This is the unfortunate problem with easily sway-able people; to put the blame on C.S. Lewis…

The narrator is a guy. He is the real Linus Smallprint. He may mention a ‘Justin’ at some point. If you ever see that, he is referring to me.
Oh my goodness, that is so funny, and creative! Whata twist! lol.

I agree with you about Harry Potter. Another thing is that the characters weren’t exactly learning magic. They were learning how to use their abilities. Magic is genetic, not a way to get into the occult or a fantasy equivalent.
Probably have him explain the difference between these and other books with magic, t…[Read more]

@linus-smallprint For me, it would depend on what the books have in them. Do they just have characters with cool powers, or are there actual magic spells being used in them, even if those particular spells are fake?
A good example is Star Wars compared to Harry Potter. Both have magic systems I’ve seen Christians complain a lot about. This is my…[Read more]

@linus-smallprint ooh! Stripe is certainly interesting. I’d love to see where he goes in the story. Kunulfs are really cool.
oh, and your thing about puns being lost in translation was hilarious. I like how the narrator, whoever he is (or she? It feels like a he for some reason), is actually addressing the reader sometimes.

Um yeah!!! Why on earth did you do that!!
Nearly made me gag.

Book blurbs: tease, don’t summarize with the plot. It should also get the reader really excited and interested, so find a good hook. @linus-smallprint gave some really good advice.
