TheShadow started the topic Please tear this apart in the forum Novel Critique Requests 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Hello, here is the first chapter of my WIP, and please, feel free to rip this thing apart. Critique it as much as you want, if there’s something that seems off, illogical, or is bothering you, don’t be afraid to tell me. I want this story to be the best it can, and the only way to get there is through trial and error. If I tag you, please don’t…[Read more]

I drew a picture of Alan because I was board. This is how I envision him in one of his good moments.

I was actually planning to have Howard get captured and taken to the zoo in a later chapter, lol.
The only definition of DMV I found was Department of Motor Vehicles, so hopefully that’s right. Linda wants a Ferrari.
Ooh, a fair! She would get her beak stuck in a caramel apple. XD

well you can’t blame a girl for not being attracted to a weak guy. Lol. I mean, right now he seems a little bit like a wilting violet. I’ll give him a chance, but so far not my type.
Umm… I pretty sure if you look it up it’s pretty common for dissertation to be punished by getting shot.
it may just be in war tho.
I haven’t…[Read more]

thank you for telling me about Alcatraz. That makes sense.
I read your chapter. I like it a lot, though Eric is not my kinda guy. 😂
sooo, btw, I’m not sure how affiliated you are with military, but you do know what will happen if Alan becomes a deserter, right? He’ll be killed if they catch him.
It’s pretty unive…[Read more]

I thought it was you who mentioned it.
I don’t know if you saw my question, so I’ll just ask it again. 😀
I was wondering if Alcatraz ever has some sort of redemption. I mean, I don’t want him to become a perfect character because he does good deeds, but he also kinda isn’t the best right now. I believe you and I ten…[Read more]

(and just so you know, your fun little comedic WIP is amazing and still has wonderful characters and amazing lessons and values within it even though it’s ‘just for fun’ 😉🥰)
Thank you, I hope to give it some meaning :]
I’m sorry for being kind of sarcastic, I was very moody at the time of writing that post.…[Read more]

@linus-smallprint very nice! I trace stuff all the time too, so I know how you feel saying stuff like “This technically isn’t my art, I just traced it and added my personal flair”
(My profile picture is a prime example)

Thanks for the steps, I will use them while discerning, especially number 2. My book idea is one that is set in the middle ages, and originally it was to be set during the Black Death. Over time, however, I think this might be the thing I was stressing over. I was convicted over how dark that time period was, and how I might not…[Read more]

I don’t mind extensive conversation scenes. But some others might not.maybe you could have this conversation later on, (if at all) but no pressure.
Thanks for sharing that clip!

I’m sorry, I can’t help you much here. I’ve never done this. Maybe you could ask your dad?
Haha! Well I didn’t expect help on that part!! lol.
I would like the scene where Aaron goes up to Sabina and asks her about marriage and see the conversation they have.
Ugh. You would say you wanted me to write that scene.

Oh someone wants to talk XD Okay
And yes, we should definitely avoid sinning, but that is not the only thing God requires of us. We are told to glorify God in what we eat and drink, and whatever else we do 1 Corinthians 10:31. This is a command, not a statement of the way things are. We need to actively seek to Glorify God. If…

Yup, I agree. When I was in elementary school, we had comics in our workbooks about Christian kids who always did the right thing. I understand they were trying to encourage us to do good as well, but it was a little annoying that only the kids who were not Christians did wrong (and they would do the wrong thing every time).…

(In other words, is he trying to be disciplined in fighting his worry, but forgetting to be dependant on God to help him (which seems quite likely since he is struggling with doubt itself))
100% Yes.
