I don’t know. Besides, where would all the light be coming from? 🙂

@Ivy-rose It’s The Final Clash.
My sister is of the opinion I should have the whole battle underground; but 50,000 soldiers? There would have to almost be an underground city for that; something which I don’t have room for in this book. Perhaps just a hundred or so on each side… But it still boils down to the two characters; the shield and the spear.

((Sorry guys! I can’t believe I left out a word! Ighhh))
I draw in a deep breath. “Oh.”
He stares at his shoes. “I just don’t know why it would’ve taken you a whole year…”
Oh boy. “I don’t know why either.”
He gives an annoyed laugh and stands up suddenly. “Well that’s apparent! I don’t know why I got my hopes up when I realized you were here. T…[Read more] -

Water spraying on the army…I suppose that’s a possibility. Though considering how close the fight it, it would logically get on soldiers of both sides; except that it would be a miraculous event already, so water landing on one soldier and not another shouldn’t be too strange. I don’t know…

@gretald That’s not a bad idea…except the bad guy’s army won’t know he’s dead. At leas, they won’t see it, so I don’t think that will work. I want something more than common fleeing.
And yes, @Kate-Flournoy, it is a spear. (A SPEAR, EVERYONE, NOT A PEAR) And it’s too late to go back and edit the post. ;(
The horn, hmm. Possibly, though for the…[Read more]

So…I need some help. Or at least I wanted to see if any of you had ideas.
Basically, I’m trying to figure out the climax of a fantasy I’m writing. The main good guy and main bad guy are battling it out in underground caverns while a battle rages outside. While there isn’t magic in this story, there is ancient power/the Prince’s power. The MC…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic How to Create Good Conflict in the forum Plotting 10 years, 2 months ago
One tip I’ve heard about creating good conflict is to give the character two things he wants and force him to choose; perhaps he really wants one thing, but the second thing is better for the kingdom or for other or even for himself. Now, in many movies where the bad guy has the girl friend in one hand and the lives of a whole city in the other…[Read more]

He shrugs and answers, “The dragon from the north, yes.”
Seeing the look of shock on my face, he crosses his arms.
“Must have lost more of your memories than I thought,” he mutters.
“D-dragons don’t…exist!” I manage to exclaim.
“No, not in present times. But, uh… we’re not really in present times, now, are we?”
I raise my hands in…[Read more] -

Because writing is a way I can pour out my ideas (and dreams, feelings, expectations…) and turn them into something that others would want to hear.

“Of course we have!” she replied, looking at me as if I was out of my mind. Which, at this point, it wouldn’t surprise me if I was.
“Come sit,” she told me, and she put her stiff hands on my shoulders and guided me to a chair. As I was pushed down on my seat, I noticed everyone else at the table was staring at me. I sheepishly grinned, and…[Read more] -

You know you’re a writer when you are so attached to your characters that you wish they were real people, and then you start imagining the conversations you would have with them.

This is a great topic! You’re the complete opposite of crazy, Kate!
I love books where the first sentence is a quote that a character says. To me, it just gives immediate curiosity (Also because I am better at writing dialogues than descriptions/scenes. 😛 I know; not good). It feels like you’re immediately put in the action, and if it’s…[Read more]

You know you’re a writer when you are babysitting a six-year-old and she starts pretending you are a queen she is you assistant, and somehow it quickly spirals into good queen verses evil queen, with a calling down of dragons, wielding of magical spears, and summoning of knights (all the while you’re taking notes of your witty comebacks for future…[Read more]
