@That_writer_girl_99 The Warden reminds me of Javert from Les Miserables. Javert is just doing his duty and he isn’t really a bad person. He just refuses to see that people can change and always chooses Justice over Mercy. he can’t accept or give mercy to anyone.
In the end, Valjean has the chance to take revenge on Javert and doesn’t, choosing to…[Read more] -
Elizabeth replied to the topic Smooth/Effective Dialogue in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 5 months ago
I’m definitely not the best person to help out on this, because I struggle with it too, but something that I’ve picked up while being on KP is the concept of “show not tell”, something that helps to infuse dialogue with physical actions, emotions, or facial expressions.
Think about your characters. When they’re angry, do they clench their fists?…[Read more]

Hello everyone!
So here’s the deal: some of you may know that I’m working on a novel called Prison–the concept of which is rather long and complicated and isn’t entirely relevant to this thread. Some of you may also know that this particular WIP has been put on the backburner for a bit, at least until my college classes release me long enough to…[Read more]

Heya Kapeefers!
I needeth opinions.
After various consideration, I’ve come across the conclusion that perhaps some sci-fi and fantasy names are a bit to…crazy.
I mean, the most famous names in fiction are Harry and Luke and Frodo and Bilbo. None of which are overly complicated or hard to pronounce.
So what about you? What do you think is…[Read more]

Okay, I have a new proof-reading project. I first want to say: @shannon I can’t tell you enough, how grateful I am that you’re helping me with my various short stories. That being said, I have a serial story that needs to be edited before it’s posted and I don’t want to post this stuff before it’s edited as i have been repeatedly advised I need an…[Read more]

@that_writer_girl_99 Thanks, I will definitely keep that in mind!
@bethanysinkyroses I think my favorite would have to be, The Endurance.
@mariposa Hello! I do landscape scenes, and people too.
@kate-flournoy I’ve only read the first so far…but I agree that Kelsier is the best! But, I also really like Vin.

I come again… In need of a bit of help.
I have another new character.
And he’s awesome.
But too see him….would be even more awesome.
He has brown hair, feathery and of average length, with a nice professional cut. He always has this manipulative, broad smile,…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy Fyi, Fools In The Darkness comes straight from the theme as well.
“He walks up to the inner machine and opens the door where ten men are waiting for him. They have a foolish mission to do some good in a dark world and as fools they hope to succeed.”

I came up with three more ideas
1. Fools in the darkness
2. The Time Traveler’s Dilemma
3. Key to the futureFor 1 and 3, I would probably have the subtitle “a time travel novel”.

Hey all, I’ve got a quick question.
What do you personally think is an average/good word count for a novel. Also, what are your own word counts?
I’ve estimated that mine will be somewhere between 80,000 and 100,000. It depends on how much I expand or cut out in the editing stage.
@daeus, @kate-flournoy, @aratrea, @jane-maree, @dragon-snapper, @co…[Read more] - Load More

Tis fine, @shannon I’m in your boat exactly. What music stuff for you? I’ =m studying for a huge series of tests.
Hey, @cloudy! I don’t have much practice in the ‘editing’ realm, but I can give it a try. I know I’m grateful when a family member proof-reads my writing, so I’ll try to be of help!
Okay! @sage-g Welcome abord! I’ll give you the link to the stories. They’re already on one doc. I advise opening up the doc outline so it’s easier. Read and comment at your leisure. I just need help on all of the different parts. XD
