This book, I like it. Another! *smashes cup*
I might just take you up on that beta reading offer; I’ve never had one before, so it will be a new experience 🙂

I currently have two WIPS on the go right now – the first one is called “In the Name of the King” and it’s about a young king who has lost two of his siblings to magic but finds himself confronted with a difficult choice when he finds another blood mage being tortured by a Lord from another kingdom. There’s lots of sibling moments and angst and…[Read more]

I think I’ve pretty much got those four pillars worked out, so yay!
Thanks, guys! This is my first time ever doing an in-depth worldbuild so I just wanted to get some direction. You all have been a great help 🙂
That’s quite some url you have, Grace 😀 I hope the answers on th…[Read more]

Several months ago I came up with the bones of an idea for creating my own fantasy world. Over time, I developed it briefly, but after reading some posts about worldbuilding I began to work on it in depth…and it is hard work. Every time I think “Maybe this is enough” something else pops up for me to try and figure out. I read somewhere that…[Read more]

I do like a bit of the ‘damsel in distress’ – the girls who dress as boys and run away to avoid marriage annoy the life out of me 😉 Defeating a tyrant is another one of my favourites as long as it’s well done, and I’m a sucker for medieval settings with knights and castles and all that goes along with it 😀 I prefer my stories where…[Read more]

There are some cliches I like in fantasy and others that are just boring. I was watching Legend of the Seeker a couple of nights ago, and when it got to the part where they have to tell the Seeker who he truly is and who he’s supposed to defeat, my eyes rolled so hard (lol), but it also gave me an idea. What if there were a school for all the…[Read more]

I need help with:
- writing good Christian fantasy without sounding preachy
- motivation to finish a story
- handling multiple plot bunnies

It’s a bit of both, language and grammar. I lived in the UK before I came here 🙂

@hannah-c I’m an English teacher at a Christian school. I’ve always wanted to be one, so it’s a good job so far ☺️
I haven’t written anything yet. I’m still in the brainstorming for ideas phase 😊

@hannah-c I am about your age, yes 😃 And I’m in the Netherlands right now – another barrier because right now I only know about ten words of Dutch 😐 The people I’m staying with are really nice, however, and they’re teaching me more words, so it’s not that bad.
I still like romance, but the cut-and-paste characters do get boring after a while. I…[Read more]

Don’t worry about it; I’m pretty curious myself 😃 I had to move; it’s the first time I’ve been away from home for so long and things are still rather rocky. I used to write Christian romances; can’t help but cringe slightly thinking about that now (!) but I really want to try my hand at fantasy.
Thanks for the encouragement! 😄

Heh, I kind of need this as well. I started a new job overseas nearly two weeks ago now and though it’s been really overwhelming, I’ve also found myself longing to write in a better direction than where I was going before. (That probably sounds weird; I mean writing more for God’s glory and my own enjoyment than for the praise others…[Read more]

@Everyone
Thanks, guys! I think I’m going to go with the first one, but you never know, elements of the second idea may crop up in there just as well 🙂

I’m writing a story at the moment about this young king who has lost two of his brothers in battle due to magic and so hates it as a result. One day, this king is visited by a lord who has been keeping a couple of young mages as slaves and treating them terribly. In spite of his mistrust, the king realises the cruelty of their treatment and…[Read more]

I’m done! 50k with ten days to go 🙂 I don’t really feel much like celebrating, though, because of how messy this month was, but I do want to keep writing and I think I’ve finally got into a habit of doing it daily, so this month wasn’t a total loss.
