@joy-caroline I’ll have to check them out! What is your favourite genre to read/write?
@lydia-s nice! Makes sense, it’s great you can brain dump those scenes. That’s kinda how I started my series (any chance yours is a fantasy too? :P). Ooh those are classics! I haven’t read them yet! I always find it interesting to learn story structure off older books, when they did things more differently to each other and to see what has or hasn’t changed in novel writing since then.Yeah, so my wip I’ve restarted with a new mc and after reading Save the Cat writes a novel my knowledge of story telling is so much better and like – it seems possible now?! SO I’m pumped about that. And having new ideas to strengthen what I’ve already done, today. I’ve been reading a lot more, but the Wingfeather Saga and Heirs of Neverland Duology have been my highlights! I’ve also read the Hobbit and Some John Green books recently.
Perfect thank you! I’ll make sure to tag people (ahem, you people, who are on this thread XD). You too! 😀
Hmmm, a nice in between? Like it’s complex but not over the top to get completely confused by? I guess it varies from story to story. I hope the stories I write fall into that category too 😀
(oh it was just cause there were two pages, I’ve got everyone)
@lydia-s I’ve been good! how about you? Have you written/read anything interesting or fun lately?
(if there’s anyone else I didn’t respond to, this formatting is confusing me and it didn’t show up as I was responding, sorry! will check though)
Annnd I’m back XD
Well @power I didn’t know how to sword fight when you wrote that comment but I’ve tried it out at a stunt park recently so I know a little bit about it! That knowledge may come in handy, thanks! (Given I need to write battle scenes and know near nothing about them XD) *points sword back at you, begins duel*
@joy-caroline Thank you! I’ve read Dust and Shadow finally and ahhh (screams) XD I’m really enjoying the Wingfeather Saga at the moment. What new books have you found/liked recently?
@daisy-torres *cries* that would have been so fun to see! Awww that’s awesome they were fine with it – that’s a clever solution! So, how do I use this site? Do I just find an interesting thread and jump on and join the chat?
Woohooo! So exciting!
@karissa-chiml – thank you! Absolutely you have! I’m on ydubs 😀
Thanks @autumn-rebecca! Oooh those are interesting topics. I’ll reach out if I have any questions 😀
Also, in Author you write a novel from the very beginning and they give feedback on each stage. So they go from concepts to synopsis, some other form of planning, to drafting the novel (I haven’t heard much about the editing phase, but I believe it’s there). SO this would be another reason they want you to write from scratch. They want to teach you to write a novel from the beginning. They know some people are pansters – but I think I read something like every young/new writing needs to learn this process & novel structure until they’re so experienced as an author they can choose to panst it (that was on a ydubs lesson). They would have worked with pansters before and taught them how to do this process.
@trahia-the-minstrel
I’m on The Young Writer’s Workshop and not the Author Conservatory. I’d like to do the Author Conservatory one day and I’m in a similar situation with a series I love. What I’ve heard (from YYW students and the Author Conservatory Instructors) is this: a lot of students join Author with a “heart project”. But they have to put it aside to work on a stronger concept and learn to write a full novel or a novel with the process they teach. Eventually, they find they love other stories too and are less concerned about that heart project being “the one” they publish etc. After they’ve done some other projects in Author and learnt those skills, I’ve seen that some students revisit and rework their heart project with more skills and knowledge. And you could always come back to it after you finish Author. Hope this helps!Hello! Whoops I didn’t mean to disappear for so long – I couldn’t find my password and life got hectic. But my password was saved on this device!! Horary!!
How is everyone??
Thank you all for the warm welcome! I’ll get back to your questions later, as I’m tired rn and just wanted to reappear aha. What forum questions or spaces/places should I check out first?
ok, that’s one question I just have to answer, @daisy-torres – LAURIE!!!! Though I can now understand why they didn’t, I’m still frustrated about it! Who do you think? I’m so excited that your family is German! What did you do about the library book?
@lydia-S – I can’t eat store brought pizza anymore, but when I could I only ate the pizza that had pineapple on it! What about you? Umm unicorn, and maybe mermaid. Ummm oh Lucy Pevensie!!!@joy-caroline – Thanks! I’ll have to! Read any good fantasy books since this comment? I’m wanting to read more of them so I’m looking for recommendations! Netball is an Australian sport (ok and some other countries like England and New Zealand and Jamaica play it – it’s just not big in the US).

Thank you all for the warm welcome! It’s so interesting to read your interests!
I’m 20, my favorite books are The Chronicles of Narnia and Little Women. My wip is a fantasy series about a Queen who has to save her kingdom from an evil dude (ok it’s not that vague haha). I will have to check those videos out, thanks for sharing! Joy, I read to Kill a Mockingbird in school and enjoyed it! And I haven’t read or watched les Misérables! (*Needs a shocked emoji of some description*) Daisy that’s amazing you have a published book! I read your dog’s name as Koala the first time round haha! I love dogs!
My other interests are Netball, craft/art and acting and I love nature and the ocean! (And I learnt German in school so it was exciting when you gave me German cake!)
