Thanks! That’s so sweet <3
And I’ll go back to EDITING on the first part like you said. You have great feedback! Wanna read the whole thing, XD I’ll post the link! https://editor.reedsy.com/s/p8SdhuQ (if you don’t want to that’s totally fine!) Unfortunately, I don’t have any more chapters following this one, but if you want to critique the…[Read more]

Is this better?
“Last night, I had a dream…” Lilitu began. They stopped walking in a clearing. “I saw this girl…” he shook his head. “She was crying. She looked so sad, and hopeless…And it was so vivid. I could feel her pain, her suffering, and there was nothing I could do.” His voice was strained. Is he crying? Sef wonde…

You’re welcome!
There’s a lot of things I could say in reply, but I think the best thing to do would be spend a long time on worldbuilding. The more worldbuilding you do, the more will become clear, and the world will seem more real to the viewers. I know pantsing if fun, and you can totally do it, but it sounds like it might be…[Read more]

Yeah, it does end abruptly. I really don’t like this chapter, lol. I guess….more EDITING! SO MUCH FUN!!!! (not.)
Maybe something like that? I mean, Lilitu already described what happened, sort of, and I feel like it gets a little graphic in the actual flashback part. But it’s really up to you, if you feel l…

It’s been a bit since I posted more of my story, so here’s the next little bit. It’s a little fragmented and summary-ish in spots, but it’s what I’ve got lol.
As the fall months passed, Bert Hawley began courting Clara. Clara’s mood brightened considerably, and she willingly did household chores and helped in t…[Read more]

I’ve been working on this chapter this morning…and it feels a little clunky to me. Do you guys have any input that you think would make it run smoother?
Chapter 14
The air was pleasantly cold, nipping the tip of Sef’s nose as she walked in step with Lilitu. The sound of leaves crunching b…[Read more]

Sequel. It’s called The Two Emperors
So there’s Guardian Angels, then Sovereignty in the Galaxy: The Troublemakers, then Sovereignty in the Galaxy: The Two Emperors, then The Returns, then Alpha Slit, and that’s as far as I’ve got with sci-fi.

Right, like the internal resolution vs the outward resolution. Sooo, I sort of feel like Katrin doesn’t exactly have her own huge goal. It’s more she’s trying to survive and protect her brother, but I’ve lately realized that she also holds a grudge against the administrators for a few reasons, mostly just because of the living conditi…

I agree with Min and Jonas on everything they said. Resolve of the character will balance the unresolved political structure. However there’s still a lot of things you could do to end it differently. For one thing, most dystopias almost never talk about what happens after they take down the government. They need to reestablish…[Read more]

Cloaked Mystery replied to the topic Character Questionnaire in the forum Characters 3 years ago
Okay, yeah. That could definitely come in handy for some characters. For me, it’s kind of hard to think of things like that unless they’re completely random/are important to the plot.
Are you referring to the “hate/dislikes” idea? I find that often a character might also hate something they fear, so there can be overlap there. I’m not…[Read more]

I haven’t written anything in the dystopian genre, but I find it interesting, and I might try my hand at it someday. I don’t have any great ideas for your problem. Have you read Fahrenheit 451? That’s the main dystopian novel I’ve read. You could try an ending sort of like that, where it suggests that things will eventually get…[Read more]

Oof that’s a hard one XD
For a single novel, I think you do need a defining ending.
Something I have heard about in my research about plots is that there’s two separate goals your character has to reach. One of them is said and known about, such as defeating the government, the other is never mentioned but obvious to the reader.…[Read more]

Yeah. There might be multiple that would work well. Perhaps something along the lines of emotions they inspire in others, and/or some general things people think about them.

Okay. It looks like Midnight is the most popular. Retribution, Bloodsong, and Daybreak are the least. (Admittedly we have a small test sample.)
