It was a dry, dry summer. The crops suffered, and Pa worried that they wouldn’t grow to full height in time to produce. There was also the constant fear of prairie fires. Some nights the horizon glowed orange, from the wild, consuming flames miles away.
I finally found the courage to talk to C…[Read more]

Awww, Erichhh! 😭
But he sounds like such a cool POV to write from. 👀
I always love reading your writing. 😊 I feel like writing in present tense in becoming more popular now, at least in ya fiction, and I really enjoy it. I tried it once for a short story and failed miserably. 😂 But I might try it in a…[Read more]

I knew Albert would be coming home soon, at least, that had been his plan when he left a year ago. Not that I’d heard anything from him since he had gone. I didn’t know exactly when he was coming back, until one Sunday I saw him sit…[Read more]

I’ve been praying about this today…and I just got a strong sense that God wants me to keep the beginning like I had it…like the second link.
I just feel a lot better about the way I had it before. I’m not sure why…I just get anxiety every time I think about starting it that way, and feel immediate…[Read more]

Sorry, I think my last post lagged.
It’s all Wyoh’s fault…..XD
I really like your idea of doing the flashback and then going to Lilitu’s pov, though!
Okay, great! i’ll think and pray about it, but I’m pretty sure that this fits better than how I had it originally.

You guys, thank you so much for reading it and for everything!! I was kinda scared for some reason that nobody would be interested to even look at it!
The first one does pull me in better and I want to read more, but I just love the description and feel of the second, however, it may be a bit slow for the beginning…

I will definitely think about all this! I need to get more opinions before I make a decision…I am just so new to all this and want to see what more people think.
It’s a neat idea with the time change or whatever, I just don’t want it to be too confusing, and/or abrupt, you know?
Awww your dedication and acknowledgement…

If any of you have ideas of plot twists I could add, or events that could happen in the story, I’d love to hear them. I feel like I keep running out of new ideas, but I want to strengthen my story and the characters. Maybe I just need to go read some more historical fiction from this time period lol.

Yep, Jonas is right! (Is it okay to call you by your tag name?)
Tone armor is less of an official term, but I’ve heard it used a couple of times. Basically it’s plot armor, but instead of the character being protected by the plot, they are protected by the tone and style of the story. For example, Bugs Bunny can be hit by a m…[Read more]

I would guess Tone Armor is character being protected to make it appropriate for the target audience, or something like that.

Cloaked Mystery replied to the topic The Chat Chat in the forum General Writing Discussions 2 years, 10 months ago
It’s “plot armor” and “tone armor” actually, I think. Plot armor refers to a character being protected by the plot. I think you would use that term in a situation where a character keeps surviving just because they’re important to the plot.
I’ve never heard of tone armor.
