This is a good topic. With newsletters, you have two main goals. First, develop a friendship with your subscribers. Second, get them to devour your emails.
Let’s start with the second. Most everybody has time to look through their emails. What few people can do is read every email entirely. Having people skim through your newsletter is…[Read more]

@Daeus, that’s so cool! 🙂 Where you by any chance at the Celtic Ball in December of 2015? I thought I saw someone who looked like you there, but I wasn’t sure.
Hm… you just may be surprised. Obviously nothing’s certain, but I’ve a gut feeling you just may be surprised.
@kate-flournoy, I hope you’re right…
Okay, I just gotta say it right…

-Trump’s probably going to win the Republican nomination. Sadly. Very Sadly.
Hm… you just may be surprised. Obviously nothing’s certain, but I’ve a gut feeling you just may be surprised.
Now if Rubio would drop out, that might flip things right around.
I cannot tell you how much I wish he would drop out— and Carson a…[Read more]

Well, I guess we have the farm girl part in common at least 😉 Haha.

I’ve only been playing since October, so I’m still an early beginner 😛 I really love it though. I mean, it’s hard, but about anything is when you’re still learning…That’s cool though, that this is your third year! Good job 😉 🙂

@kate-flournoy
Haha, well I may have exaggerated slightly. 😉 But yes, I do enjoy painting.
And @anna-brie Yes! I am a very artsy person! 🙂@hope Hmmm… well, do you live anywhere near Parker City or Muncie? 😉 I’m actually not using a pen name (I’ve wanted to, but could never figure out one that I really liked 😛 )
…and thanks, everyone,…[Read more]

Daeus replied to the topic When is enough enough? in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
Perhaps the largest factor is what is the purpose of the torture scene. If it is for historical purposes or if it is the culmination of all the struggles your protagonist has been facing, I would say go into more of the details. If it is for setting the character of the villain or keeping your protagonist from reaching his immediate goal, I would…[Read more]

Yikes— I don’t blame him so much anymore, @hope! 😛
But you’re right— that scene is very well handled. Another good way to do it. Just go quickly— you don’t have to linger over it. Of course, if it was an interrogation it would have to be broken up with dialogue and so would take a little longer, but you can still go fairly quickly over the…[Read more] -

I see what you’re saying @hope. I think Megamind probably just starts his character arc lower than most. 😛
I will admit it was funny. I just can’t shake this weird feeling after I watch it, though. Not a happy “Oh that was a good story”, but more of just an “ugh”. I don’t know. -
Kate Flournoy replied to the topic Song of the Sword in the forum Poetry Critiques 8 years, 9 months ago
The rhythm and rhyme are absolutely beautiful— exceptional work, @hope. The only line I’m not sure about is ‘Falling from air’. It seems to have too few syllables. I would try something like ‘Abides in the air’.
And as far as I can tell, it fits very well with the story. Very well indeed. 🙂

Daeus replied to the topic What does my villain want? in the forum Fantasy 8 years, 9 months ago
Here’s my idea. It’s all based off of the theme of joy. First, how about the birds have a special role in this society for nurturing and fostering joy? Secondly, it would make sense if this villain were not only a physical bad guy but an opponent of the theme. He would literally be an opponent of joy. Naturally, the enemy of joy is hate.…[Read more]

@hope I tried to leave a comment (or reply) to the captions challenge but nothing happened. Does my info (email and name) get sent to you and do I receive a password so that I can log in? Is that how it works? I don’t know if this counts but would you mind if I posted my two captions here since I can’t get it to work and it ends tomorrow???

@hope I’ve had exactly the same problem. For my first book, I started out with seven sub-rulers in one of the fantasy kingdoms, but then I changed it to eight and gave them all new names. Believe me, the editing process got so messy after that; I once counted and found that there was an extra, ninth ruler running around and messing up my plot.…[Read more]

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic Love (mercy) vs. Justice in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
I think @hope said everything I could have @anna-brie… I will just point out that the Father is justice, and the Son is mercy— and there had to be justice before there could be mercy. Love fulfills justice and makes mercy possible. And you have to accept the love before you can claim the mercy. If you don’t accept it, you only get what you…[Read more]

Your article, @hope , got me thinking about the struggle between people loving there enemies and true justice.
The authorities in my story are partly representative of God, and I’m trying to find the right balance between righteous judgement and Christian love.
Should you offer mercy to those you know will just turn back to doing evil?I suppose…[Read more]
