The Ezra Wilkinson System instead.
Write.
It’s highly simple, but it works wonders.I think I’ll stick with this method…with the addition of self-imposed deadlines that keep me working even when I hate every word. 😉

You could also show how she deals with the pain; she might have developed some interesting quirks…things she’ll do or not do that health people wouldn’t think twice about. Maybe she doesn’t like leaving home or going more than a certain distance outside. Maybe she has an imaginary friend she talks to and plays with since she can’t always play…[Read more]

Despite tentatively agreeing with my own proposition above, that doesn’t mean I think it’s the final answer. Or that I’d support or use torture. But that’s the only case where I might let a good character use it.
I do agree that the ends do not justify the mean, however, which brings us back to the original question…would inflicting pain in…[Read more]

Proposition: It would be fine for a good guy to use torture on a bad guy who was breaking laws of combat/morality to find out information to stop such breaking of laws. Let me explain. In battle, generals on both sides might interrogate prisoners to discover what the enemy is doing. But in simple combat, I don’t think it would be right for a good…[Read more]

The little part in brackets towards the end is what you are asking about, right? Well, here’s my opinion for whatever it’s worth.
That part does sound a little clique. From what I see of Mairi’s character, I think her permission should be a little more reluctant. You wrote Your mother made me promise not to tell anyone, including you. I am…[Read more]

@Littlebrowndog It’s fine you posted here first. 😉
Also, I think someone said it but I’m not sure who…a ‘good’ character could use torture without you promoting it. Perhaps he’s really angry when he uses it; or maybe he matures more later on or becomes a Christian and then he realizes it might not have been the best thing to do (assuming we…[Read more]

Great, you started a thread. I was going to do that later if no one else had. 🙂
This is a question I’ve thought about on and off. Under normal circumstances, of course, torture would be something I’d only have bad guys use. By this I mean physical torture. If the situation were serious enough, I’d have no problem letting good characters use some…[Read more]

I have a friend who’s MC is bitter, spiteful, and revengeful at the beginning of the book. And yet I love her. Part of it is that I can see the character’s past; what has made her like this, and I sympathize. Part of it is that the character is hurting, though she doesn’t show it (and covers it with bitterness, etc.). And part of is is that I know…[Read more]

Welcome Greta! I love writing fantasy as well. I’m currently correcting two fantasy books. 😉 And writing a futuristic trilogy which is interesting since it’s so different.
Are you currently writing a book?

So, as I was saying, there I was, sitting on the bench as I always doesn’t.
I absolutely love that line…and the whole passage too. It’s a very interesting telling of what happened without seeming to really be told, if you get my meaning. It just flows. Anyway, I just have two corrections.
They sat around one large table feasting in bursts o…

You know you’re a writer when you make writing an excuse for everything.
Why are you talking you yourself? I’m a writer.
Why are you researching how to fight with a dagger? I’m a writer.
Why are you always on the computer? Take a guess…

Daniel #2 Thanks so much for your comments. And, since you seem familiar with this sort of stuff, I have a few more questions (if you don’t mind). Would a wound from a laser weapon be about as dangerous as a wound from a normal gun or would they be more deadly? Would the wound be burned at all? How much could a laser weapon go through before the…[Read more]

Well, I’d have all their vehicles be bulletproof. And maybe they could be set up so you could drive them into the water and they’d submerge and slip in or out of places that way. Also, weapons (lethal or stun type guns) could be in place…out of sight, of course, but in place for easy defense. They could also probably pick up all kinds of…[Read more]

Daniel#2 Space travel…I think I might comprehended about half of that. But it’s still cool. I don’t have space travel in this book but I’ll have to remember that for sometime else.
Do you have any thoughts on laser weapons or the possibility of laser weapons that will shoot a programmed distance and then ‘fizzle out’ so they are lethal after…[Read more]

I’ve been hearing about the One Year Adventure Novel curriculum from various people and am wondering who here has/is taking it and what you think? Is it worth the price? About what writing level is it for. (Though I have written a few books of my own, I by no means claim to be an expert on writing. But is this something I would still get a lot…[Read more]
