(@Daeus. All of them at once, I suppose. Though looking back I see what I’m supposed to do. Well, I suppose I can but try to answer the riddle, though I don’t know much of the story besides what you wrote…)

It depends; I like to see everything in the end, not just have a vague sense that someone has survived. If the book is part of a series, I like an end that culminated the main idea and yet leaves the book open for more.

Anna: “And I must say, I think that is enough chat and enough riddles. Now are you going to tell us how to get back into or own world or must we force our way past?”

Anna: “I’m sorry, I’m lost here. I always thought the Count of Monte Cristo was umm, fictional. No offence, I hope. Unfortunately I never read the book, so…”

Anna: “Yes, please tell. And how do we get off of this place? Because as friendly as my companions are, and as much as I enjoy mucking though swamps and fighting monsters, there is a real battle about to begin in my world and I really need to get back to it.”

Looks interesting. I signed up.

A week or two ago I finally got Eli by Bill Myers. I wasn’t sure about the idea (a parallel universe with Jesus coming in modern day instead of 2000 years ago, but the book was wonderful. It was well written, very powerful, and dealt with the retelling of Jesus’s life masterfully. If you have a chance to read the book, I’d highly recommend it.

Anna: “I don’t prefer any thought of dying, but we don’t actually know if anyone is in the house. If someone is, it’s as likely to be a monster as a person in this place, but if we’re going to look, let’s get it over with. And please keep your weapons ready.” *looks over shoulder as she starts for house* “I just have a dagger.”

Anna: “And keep your ears open for a spring or something; I’m getting desperately thirsty.” *looks up at looming mountain as the whole party starts forward along the swamp edge.*

Anna, shuddering as she looks at creature: “If I use the whole charge from my pistol I might be to-” *Monster starts to charge again* *Anna twists the gauge on her pistol to allow the whole charge to shoot at once and shoots at creature* *Monster wallows in mud, smashing against side of boat and almost overturning it before sinking into mud.*…[Read more]

Anna: “I knew that wasn’t Tolkien!” *furrows brow and looks at Rameaux* “Are you alright? I have some painkillers if you need them.”

Anna: “Well, I guess that’s fairly cool.” *rests hand lightly on pistol and looks at ghost* “So we just need to row this boat across the swamp?”

*Anna looking up towards ghost*: “I suppose we’d better ask this Tolkien, though I must say his time as a ghost doesn’t seemed to have improved him any. I’d have expected him to be more dignified.” *steps toward head of line* “Umm, Tolkien ghost, where exactly are you leading us?”

Anna: “Ghost indeed. Since when have I believed in ghosts? And who send him, I’d like to know?” *sighs* “Well, at least he’s generous enough to give us six guesses. “Oh, that? Well, it’s more of a collector’s item. My brother gave it to me.” *Pulls small Lego figure from pouch* “It’s a character from a movie…umm, like a story one can watch.” *Smiles slightly as she looks at the figure then puts it away. “Suffice it to say that it won’t be of any help to us.”

*Anna glances at Arianwen and slows a step to walk along side her* “It’s a dream, for all I can tell. Except I know it’s not a dream. So…no, I don’t know where we are thought I heartily wish I did.” *She clenches her jaw and shakes her head* “I’ve a battle to get back to. Anna…muttering to self: “And how exactly is heading inward going to get us off this island? Isn’t there a boat or helicopter.”
Scarlett: Seriously? You didn’t get here by boat or helicopter, did you?
Maybe I should just go back to sleep.

That was sarcasm and you understood it very well.

*Anna looks down to examine herself* “Well, I have my laser pistol, but there are only four shots left and it appears I’ve not brought any extra energy pack here, wherever ‘here’ is. And I have my dagger, a small medical kit…oh yes, and my odds and ends pouch. A needle, some thread, a condensed granola bar, paper and pen, and a little Lego Bilbo.”

*Anna steps from a group of trees, raises her pistol, and fires at the creature* *the creature collapses with a gasp* *Anna pauses, slowly looking over the rest of the group then frowns and slips her pistol back into her holster* “One shot gone and I’ve not been here five minutes. Anyone care to tell me what’s going on?”
