Oo, I should go, @kate-flournoy. Indiana’s not too far away. I looked at Realm Makers’ Christian writing conference, but it’s in Colorado or something, and much more expensive. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

Okay, the room at LifeWay was already booked on January 7th, so I have reserved it for January 21st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
@daeus, it would be great if you could teach for 2-3 minutes about the importance of using body language in dialogue as a preparation for one of the games or exercises we’ll do. I tried to talk about that at the last…[Read more] -

@daeus Not to attack this too hard.. but do you mind if I try rewording the whole thing a little bit? Just to see if this works.
“Matthew is sworn to avenge a murder. His dedication to his wronged family is powerful enough to bring him through any trial, but his youth and inexperience hold him back. Setting out to find new strength, he plummets…[Read more] -

@daeus
I’m late to the discussion and didn’t have time to read everyone else’s posts, but I’m answering anyway because it’s something I’ve thought about before, so I apologize if I’m just repeating what everyone else said.
This is a tricky subject. I know that many examples of classic literature have quite a few swear words in them, and when…[Read more] -

Okay, Ohio people, check your calendars for January 7th. I want to have another Writer’s Gathering, 10-2, at Lifeway Christian Book Store. Nothing is final yet… I’m still working out the details… but let me know if this works for you all. I’d like to do this before spring semester starts and I lose my mind until May. (Just kidding, I fully…[Read more]

You could just call it “Lord of Birchwood.” I don’t know. Just a suggestion. Or you could call it *Cough*, since that seems to be a theme in your story. 😉
What is the genre? -

@Jess I am an ENFJ-A (Protagonist).
@perfectfifths, the “A” means assertive. The alternative is “T,” turbulent.
I’ve found that this exercise helps me realize the things I would not have thought of about my characters’ personalities. Like, maybe I feel like I’ve got them figured out pretty well, but then I realize that I wouldn’t have thought…[Read more] -

@perfectfifths Thank you for the congratulation!
I have to say, I was surprised at what I was capable of when I set myself a schedule and stuck with it. 31,000 words is still impressive, though! Well done! It takes dedication to be a writer at all, and even more dedication to actually finish a novella. Keep up the excellent work!
By the way, do…[Read more] -

A friend shared this personality quiz with me, with the intention of me actually using it for myself. Ha, ha. I did use it for myself, but I also found that it is a pretty neat way to get to know your characters. Get into your characters’ heads and answer these questions the way they would answer them. This site is free, and when you finish the…[Read more]

FINISHED! Yay! I mean, I met the 50,000 words. My novel is about halfway done.
@anne-of-lothlorien I’m really impressed that you listen to audio dramas while writing. If I did that, I would not be able to concentrate on both at the same time. What audio dramas do you listen to? I’m an Odyssey fan, and I like Focus on the Family Radio Theater and…[Read more] -

@Allinvolved… I’ve never done one of these before, but if I don’t get distracted, I’ll probably be writing until 10. If I don’t get distracted. However, the computer that has Internet on it will be turned off pretty soon, so I won’t be able to see y’all’s progress until tomorrow. 🙂

@dragon-snapper UP is one of the best movies on the planet. And @anne-of-lothlorien, The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything is probably my favorite Veggietales movie (although, there are a lot of good ones…).
@emma-flournoy Your second one sounds like Frodo… but I have a feeling it’s not. -

So, if you replied to the forum “Where do you live?” I know whether or not you live in beautiful Ohio. But if you didn’t, I have no idea. I’m trying to organize a Writers’ Gathering in January, and wanted to invite as many KP people as possible.
If I invited you to the last gathering, that means I know where you live (that sounded creepy) and you…[Read more] -

@warrioroftherealm I hadn’t considered using an online or cd-rom-based course for guitar. That’s a good idea though– thanks! I would like to become more proficient, so that maybe I can actually play in some other keys. 🙂

@warrioroftherealm Yeah, I started writing songs when I was much younger, and they ended up with titles like “Snow is Falling” if that gives you any idea of the quality. But my music teacher has always emphasized music theory and stuff, so I started to get a better handle on what makes a song good recently.
I also have been playing piano as my…[Read more] -

Oops… I got your tag wrong. No hyphens. @warrioroftherealm
I think chordally, so I almost always start with the melody and fill in the words, tweaking the melody as needed. But that’s just me. I think it’s because when I come up with something instrumental, it already has a meaning to me, so I know what the words are going to be about and it’…[Read more] -

Lords of the Will
Birchwood Problems
The Lord of Birchwood
???
*hands you cough medicine* Sorry, that’s all I could come up with for now.
@dragon-snapper Yes, that smoke was terrible. So please don’t do that again. Ooo cough medicine, thank you. You know, if you were nice tempered, I could take you on as a nurse. 😉
@his-instrument Hehe. The genre…hard question since I’m not great with genres, but just think Pride and Prejudice. 🙂
How about “The Will of Birchwood”?
Or does that sound too much like a name???? :S
@bluejay
The title “The Birchwood Will” might work, if you think that “The Will of Birchwood” doesn’t work. 🙂
