Hannah A. Krynicki started the topic British beta-readers?? in the forum Novel Critique Requests 8 years ago
Hey, people, this is sort of random, but I am in need of a beta-reader who is from England. It’s a troublesome situation: I’m trying to write a book set in England sometime in the future, but I am American. (No, I will not change the setting unless I absolutely have to, and even then I will be very sad about it.) As I’m writing, I will need some…[Read more]

@daeus I’d give the idea a 4- that is, I love the idea and would like to attend, but unfortunately life is in the way of me actually participating that often. 🙂

@his-instrument Oh, if you ever get a chance, it’s a cool vacation activity! I don’t know if it’s on YouTube or something… It’s surprisingly educational for a play, but also enjoyable.

@gretald Awesome! I loved seeing the reconstruction of what it might have looked like.
@sleepwalkingmk Write about a person who pretends to be blind for one day because… I’ll let you decide why.
Or write from the perspective of a writer’s computer on the day she kills a character.

@his-instrument Someone else knows about it! Excellent storytelling there. Have you ever seen The Lost Colony play?

@bluejay It’s kind of fantasy/not historical, but I’ve always wanted a story in which a girl wanders into a forest where her imaginary toy worlds are real and life-sized. Twist: Once she enters the world, she can never change any of the details about it.
Or, if you’re up for a challenge, tell us what really happened to the colony at Roanoke Island…

@dragon-snapper Way to go! Finishing a draft of a novel doesn’t happen every day- especially before NaNoWriMo!

@anne-of-lothlorien Unfortunately not. I liked Aidan Turner well enough in The Hobbit, but I don’t watch a lot of television shows. Although I’ve noticed that everyone who has watched it raves about it. 🙂
Btw @daeus Sorry for being so absent; school and road trips have really gotten in the way…

@dragon-snapper Huzzah! That’s a huge milestone in any story, especially when it’s written in less than four months. I have to ask, how do you write that fast: outlines or by the seat of your pants?

@ClaireC This looks like so much fun, but I’ve been way too busy lately to do much besides school and job. Maybe I can join in later…

@charisetter I’ll say it again: welcome! I like the idea of discussing ideas within certain gebres; it might allow for a lot of detail. You should start that topic.

Never done the Awesome Summer Writing Club before, but I’m in for this one! I want to finish the first draft of my latest big idea, a novella/novelette (not sure of the length), by the New Year. I also want to sort out all the pre-writing stage ideas for my next fantasy or sci-fi novel and start writing the thing, that is if studying doesn’t kill…[Read more]

@zcpeterson I’ll beat everyone to it this time: Welcome to the bestistest place on the internet! Now that you’re here, you: 1) act crazy like the rest of us, 2) ask writing questions, 3) give advice, 4) talk about whatever’s on your mind, and 5) hopefully join the KeePers’ book club. And most of all, you have fun. Look around and jump in; looking…[Read more]

@bluejay I vote we leave a week in between for reading the chapters. I think school starting again really threw everyone a curveball, and we should slow down a little until schedules get back on track.

@bluejay The most famous opening line ever! Well, not really, but it’s up there on the most popular opening lines lists.
Good points about introducing characters. Obviously Bilbo and the hobbits needed a lot of introduction, but Tolkien did it without boring us- probably by only answering the questions that we had already asked ourselves (ie,…[Read more]

Great idea @dragon-snapper! For the sake of attention spans, can I just link to my blog post? Because honestly, if I tried to put it all down here, I would probably end up writing a whole new article:

Yay!!! That’s so exciting! I would’ve been so nervous to go up against adults. Good for you! 🙂 Would you mind posting Chaos and The Drummer Boy? I’d sure like to read them. 🙂
@sarah-h I was nervous. Extremely nervous. I only expected a highly commended. I will definitely let you read Chaos and The Drummer Boy. I shall send them to @spradlin for publishing. (Only with Chaos, it’s a series of stories which if you read number 3. (which this one is) it won’t make much sense. I shall have to send in 1 & 2.
@bluejay Great! I can’t wait to read them! 🙂
