Hey, I just saw this and as a mapmaker decided to place a bit of input.
If you want to do digital maps, there is a thing called Inkarnate. It’s where you can build your maps online. The downside is that to access all their tools, you need to buy their premium option, but they also have a free option.
I am a self-trained…[Read more]

Yeah, this is the second time in a week that storms have taken out the power, so my mom keeps teasing my sister and I because we’re like totally having the time of our lives collecting candles and just enjoying the mood.
Yeah I’ve been posting it as an Inktober snippet series. I can quickly go back and tag you for it.

I got the House of Nelindar up to 8 snippets now for those who are curious. I am loving this project a lot. (:
Last night we had a huge storm came through that took out our power and it has slowly diminished to just rain, but the thunder woke up our whole house at 4 something and I ended up spending an hour trying to figure out a plot idea and…[Read more]

@euodia-vision and @euodia-vision
Here’s three more snippets! I’m definitely not anywhere near caught up to the daily prompt list, but that’s alright. Some snippets need a bit of extra work and there have been some days where I was unable to finish a snippet.

Prompt 8: ToadÂ
Water still dripped from the boughs of the trees but even the wetness of the earth could not contain William indoors. He embraced it. The yellowed leaves of autumn skipped across the pavement and the last wavering blades on the ash tree swirled and spun, longing to be free. William clasped a handful of the delicate seeds and…[Read more]

Prompt 7: Drip
William began to refer to London as ‘The Land of Constant Dripping’. It had rained the night of his arrival, it had poured the next day when Irene and the commander took him clothes shopping, and now as he looked out the windows of his new room the city was bathed in drizzling fog.
Marie slipped in beside him and William gestured…[Read more]

Prompt 6: Golden
Soft rain plinked against the windows as William curled deeper into the blanket around him. He had received a hot bath and now found himself buried in an oversized shirt and breeches. It was the smallest pair that had been found, but he still felt quite odd in his new articles of clothing.
A soft knock echoed from the oaken…[Read more]

Thanks! It’s been a good mental break from my more permanent WIP. In many places I’ve hit writer’s block or points where I completely lack motivation and brain energy. Writing the House of Nelindar has helped with that.

@hybridlore
Here is the snippet series if you want to read it. I’m a few snippets late in updating it because my sibling who doubles as a proof-reader/editor was procrastinating. -

Yeah…. *sniffles a bit* It’s from my Inktober WIP called The House of Nelindar. It tells the story of a microstate that was conquered by the British Empire, and the first part of the story is told through the eyes of a 10-year-old survivor. His name is William Graeson, and the story traces through his story as a survivor and then…[Read more]

I just wrote this in my WIP… *stifles sob* now I’m getting slightly depressed for the sake of my character… why do we willingly do this to ourselves?!
Your father is my worst enemy, and of all the wicked things he could ever call me, he called me son.Â

Prompt 5: Map
Marie stepped back a pace, stunned.
“Did my message not arrive?” The commander frowned.
“No Papa.” She breathed, her eyes locked on William. She hesitantly stepped towards him and after a long pause, hugged him. He stood, rigid and unprepared for her embrace. She drew back for a moment and attempted a smile. Marie was slender,…[Read more]

Prompt 4: Dodge
William craned his neck out of the window to watch the towers and spires of London creep by. The architecture filled him with awe and momentarily chased away the panic of his situation. He was in the heart of the British Empire. The clamor and people around him were the machine that drove armies- armies to his home. He watched in…[Read more]

It’s set in the late 1700s to early 1800s. The microstate is fictional, but there will probably be events in the story that are real. It’s set in Europe. There are lots of stories of small clans, microstates, and mini nations that were conquered by larger clans and nations. That’s how a lot of Great Britain came together. I’m…[Read more]

I don’t know if anyone will be interested… but I decided to do the Inktober challenge but as a snippet series of an old story idea that I loved but never really had the chance to toy around with. The story is called ‘The House of Nelindar’ and it tells the story of a small microstate that was destroyed by the British Empire. It follows the…[Read more]
