@ingridrd AGH! I know, so many forgotten ideas. It’s torture, really.
@sleepwalkingMK “They’re writers.” XD Yes, I’ve had to do that once. Somebody was asking someone else a whole lot of questions, and I just looked at him and said, “We’re writers.”
“Aahhhh…”

@ingridrd *absent whistling*
You know you’re a writer when you don’t want to become a certain way because it’s cliche.
You know you’re a writer when you have dreams about your characters.

@daughteroftheking @ingridrd @jessi-rae Thanks! 😊
@dragon-Snapper Thanks! I’ll be happy to grant that wish, as soon as I get it written (but that could be a long wait 😅).
Oh! Neat, I like the quote! What’s the name of this character? 🙂

You know you’re a writer when you haven’t written in your novel for a few days, and your walking around the house, saying, “Boy, I miss ___”
Then you stop…and say, “Oh wait, he doesn’t exist.”

Hey @naomijackson,
I’m not really sure what you’re asking here, but I’ll answer two things-
One: I try to give each of my chapters a word count consistent with that of my other chapters, but if a chapter is a few hundred words shorter than the others, I don’t sweat it. Any amount of changes can happen based on how I feel about the chapter by the…[Read more]

Here’s one I just made for a character in the third book of my trilogy. He’s eight.

@GracieGirl Coolness.
YES I love Mere Christianity. *flails* I’m glad you’re reading it. Have you read The Screwtape Letters too?
I’m reading a true WWII rescue account called The Forgotten 500 right now. It’s pretty cool. In the fiction realm, one of the things I’ve read recently which I liked quite a bit was the Mysterious Benedict Society…[Read more] -

I didn’t start out using chapter breaks, but as I started working on more complicated plots, using chapter breaks became necessary. When you get into writing, there’s a kind of flow to it, and you get a feel for where to end. Even if you don’t hit a consistent word count, it’s only the first draft, so don’t worry.
I say go for it.
Oh, and…[Read more]

Emma Flournoy replied to the topic Cliche? in the forum Fantasy 6 years, 12 months ago
@WarrioroftheRealm Well, looks like I’m contradicting everyone else on this topic, but… my first thought was yes, absolutely. 😛 It’s undoubtedly cliche. There are ALWAYS exceptions, which several of the worthy responders above have pointed out, but in general, just thinking of that kind of scene, yes, I find it cliche.

You know you’re a writer when you’re explaining why you’re frustrated with one of your characters to someone and you say “they just aren’t cooperating”, only to have them say “you know they’re not real, right?”
*facepalm*

Oooh, what’s this?
My MC–dearest Evyn, who still isn’t cooperating with me–would rather complete a small crime. Mostly because her best friend is a fellow criminal, so there wouldn’t be much ridicule involved.
Would your character rather wear high heels for an entire day or spend a day washing other people’s pets? Weird question, but my brain…[Read more]
