@Greta-D yes! Where the Red Fern Grows makes me bawl as well. And Old Yeller, though not in the same way.

I usually don’t cry during books, but I cried during Allegiant (I was literally bawling) and Where the Red Fern Grows (and I was bawling again 🙂 ). And I started tearing up reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Seven Sleeper Series.

Thanks, @hislittlerose. Sounds really neat. My schedule would not allow me to participate, but it sounds like something I would otherwise love to do.
And yes, I do like to write a lot. 😛 My WIP is currently 291,874 words in length. I’m going to be trimming a lot, but I may also add some stuff, so it’s anyone’s guess as to where it will end up. 😀

Yeah. Okay. I like that. We could do that— the piece of cloth. So does he lose it or give it up?
@Hope— he changes as far as I know. 😛
So here’s a question. What makes him change? Is it Alex? If so, how?

Oh, I see. Of course you could do the 5 paragraph essay, but that’s just an option. It is based around the three points system. If you have more points to make you will have to break those bounds. The five paragraph essay system is designed to help you understand how to write a coherent and systematic presentation. Once you have learned how to do…[Read more]

@Ivy: Yes, it’s so sad when you forget it. :'(
You know you’re a writer when you get very emotional about killing off one of your characters.

You mean for this website? Kingdom Pen?
If not, what do you have in mind?

@belegteleri
I’m excited to see other young writers doing NaNo!! I try to recruit at least one or two writers into doing this. 😛
This is my fourth year of doing it and successfully completing NaNo so I might have a few tips. Daeus had a good one about exercising. Word wars are great. Setting a word count to write each day is also another good…[Read more] -

And then, maybe near the end of the story if he changes, he could give up the fabric as a picture of giving up his bitterness (for some reason I assume he’s going to turn good; am I right about that?)…it could either be something he decides to do. Or he could be forced to used it for something during the climax.
Or, perhaps he could lose it…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy NaNo is pretty much like a writing exercise in so many words. It is a contest in its own right and if you do complete the 50k in one month you do get an award and a print out and it keeps a record of it.
It is not a curriculum, though you could use it as a writing tool/challenge.It got started when a small group of guys came up…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy I enjoyed reading this!
One thing though; the beginning ‘ands’ of each line in this are distracting and kind of…make it bland. Some of them are necessary, but not quite that many. What I suggest is taking it through another round of revision and taking out the ‘ands’ one sentence at a time. Read it out loud and see how it sounds.…[Read more] -

You know you’re a writer when you start writing your novel in your head before you go to sleep.

Good point.
How about in searching through the rubbish after the terror attack, he finds a large scrap of fabric from his mother’s dress on the day she was killed which he picks up and ever after wears wrapped around his wrist and he will never never explain to anybody why he does so. People asking him about it and his refusal to answer will…[Read more]

Hey, I just realized we don’t really have an emotional hook thus far. We’re forced to remember without any help what Walter went through that made him this way…
Hm. What if he wears a locket that had been his mother’s around his neck, or maybe a piece of lace that had belonged to her in his pocket, and takes it out from time to time…[Read more]

Sounds like fun. 😉
We live in the country, but once we were were filming a fantasy movie so we were all dressed up. We had to walk down the road to reach the location we were filming at and passed our neighbor’s house where a party was going on. The looks we got were very amusing. 😉
