@mark-kamibaya had a great thread on sci-fi a while back that touched on a lot of cliches… Well-worth reading:Â https://kingdompen.org/forums/topic/beginners-tips-for-writing-science-fiction/

@shannon @daughteroftheking Hey, guys! Thanks to your prayers I am doing MUCH better…not vomiting anymore and my fever is gone. Thank you for praying!!!
@emily Thanks for praying. My cousin is healing and I think she is home now. Her mom (my cousin Ryan’s wife) actually just had her baby boy so if you could pray for them all that would…[Read more]

@supermonkey42 That makes sense. Childhood memories make great usernames and passwords. 🙂
Yes, I am a musician. In fact, music is my major, so what used to be my hobby is now pretty much all I do. But I love it. I wanted a username that united the hobbies I’m passionate about (music and writing) with my spiritual passion– to allow Christ to…[Read more]

You know what, maybe you could just put two straight and fairly defined black lines down the sides of the one you fixed, about half an inch from the edge.

@Daeus hm… better-ish? I like the first re-do, but it isn’t perfect. What program are you using to put these together? Because putting in white boxes is like… as basic as the abcs…

I guess I could do something like this:Â

Daeus replied to the topic Pinterest in the forum Publishing & Platform 8 years, 4 months ago
@kate-flournoy Okay, here’s what that could look like with a border. The problem with borders is that I can’t find any that are adjustable, so I have to find one that’s just the right size and look. Looking at this, I think it would look better with a border that encompassed the whole lower half. I could get a different banner/plate for the top…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy True. I was going to do something like that, but I couldn’t figure out how, so…I didn’t do anything like that. 😛
But I can do some sort of border. I’ll play with it.

@Daeus whooo, my eyes are crossing. 😛
None of these are particularly amazing in my very humble opinion, though I do think the second has potential. The biggest problem is the composition— there are no lines to define where graphic meets text, or to organize the whole thing for us so our eyes have to do as little bouncing around as…[Read more]

Okay, unless anybody think’s it’s a terrible idea, I’m planning to use this for a writing school I’m launching this coming year.
My general impression of Pinterest leads me to think that quotes are good to post there, so I thought I’d do some short writing tip graphics. To make it easy on…[Read more]

@emily It’s the one with the synopsis I think I showed you…about Jaclyn. 🙂
I actually don’t know how long I’ve been working on it…over a year because I put it down and picked it back up again. Yeah, I am super excited!!!!

@emily I am heeeere! I’m actually doing some final edits (well, I say ‘final’ but it is the first draft) of my novel and then printing it off as a Christmas present for my family.

I KNEW THIS THREAD HAD TO BE ON HERE SOMEWHERE! AT LAST I HAVE FOUND IT!
I went to see The Last Jedi on Tuesday, and I LOVED it. First of all, it was so visually appealing– the effects were stunning. Second of all, I really want one of those frozen fox critters, as well as one of those space horses that they freed on that one planet (I can’t…[Read more]

Hannah R. replied to the topic Would someone please tell me if these first chapters are too depressing? in the forum Novel Critique Requests 8 years, 4 months ago
Thanks everybody. The overall tone of the story is somewhat dark– think Lord of the Rings— but it’s about finding hope in the midst of darkness and strength in the midst of persecution, so from the beginning I’ve tried to show admirable qualities in the story’s protagonists, in hopes that the depressing circumstances will draw readers to the…[Read more]

@his-instrument Another option is to add in an extra prologue or chapter in the beginning that has a very different tone just to give the reader something positive to latch onto.

@dekreel One thing I noticed is that most of your sentences are very similar in length. It would help to vary that up a bit. Have some run-on sentences and some normal and some very short.
