Well… I thought of some really clever answers, but apparently Daeus and Rosey hacked into my brain and stole them before I had time to post. Oh well. It’s that the job was done that matters, not who did it.
*Sigh* I’m so noble.
😛 Good ideas, guys!

This topic fell into oblivion way too quickly.
Come one, guys. We need everyone here. The staff are normal, everyday (well since they’re writers, I actually doubt there’s anything normal about them, and that is as it should be) people with insanely busy lives to live, and college classes to attend, and books to write, and schedules to keep, and…[Read more] -

By the way, who feels like celebrating? Let’s celebrate for a minute. Why? I have no idea. It just— let’s just celebrate.
You want a reason? Okay— because this is officially the longest topic on the forum.
What does that mean? And why is it cause to celebrate? Because either Christian writers enjoy debating about icky creatures for the…[Read more]

Okay… I think I get what you’re saying.
Similar conclusions that others came to in this discussion. It is my conviction that I don’t wish to write about vampires and zombies. That’s the conviction God has brought me too and even though I know He has given good reasons for me not to write about them, (not all entirely written out in pre…[Read more]

That sounds complicated. Not knowing all the details, it is hard for me to give any concrete advice. I will therefore give you a bunch of random ideas which hopefully will help you with brain storming.
.Could you use the revelation about the mysterious man in the beginning of the chapter to contrast with the grim reality of battle at the end and…[Read more]

Oh— okay. That makes sense. So you’re just condemning your own soul, and not going off and doing something that will affect someone else. Okay. Gotcha. (No, that was not sarcasm).
Oh… dear. Well… I think I gotcha there too. I can totally relate. Sometimes my thoughts get p-r-etty strange when I’m… shall we say… not in the best of moods. 😛

Sorry I abandoned this topic after starting it, guys… we’ve been very busy getting done with summer and welcoming a new baby into the house, and this topic just slipped my mind.
To address Emma (that’s the name of one of my sisters 🙂 )— I agree that it isn’t realistic to take a modern day character and give him a name that means something…[Read more]

Ezra, I thought that a very intelligent (intelecjewel 😛 ) post for a tired, nitpicky person. You don’t seem to suffer from the malady that besets me— when I get tired and nitpicky, I can’t articulate my thoughts to save my life. Thankfully, it hasn’t come to that yet. Let’s hope it never will.
Yes. I agree with your post. I had… one point I…[Read more]

Good thoughts, Rolena. Thanks for sharing.
So yes. Your post definitely established that vampires and zombies are evil, but that isn’t what we were debating. I misunderstood that at first myself—that we were not debating whether they were evil or not, but whether or not we—understanding fully their wickedness and ties to darkness and…[Read more]

Daeus replied to the topic Morally Perfect Characters in the forum General Writing Discussions 11 years ago
Henty’s works go like this. There’s this boy of about the age of 17 who generally livse in Britain and ends up traveling to some other country where he has his adventures. Usually this happens by him joining the army or navy. Through the character’s honesty, skill, friends, and the willingness to take advantage of every opportunity, he ends up…[Read more]

Yikes, somehow I missed this. Sorry for taking (oh my. It can’t be) almost a month to get back to you.
I have thought about publishing a poetry collection, but poetry doesn’t sell very well as a rule you know. I’m planing to mainly use my poetry as a hook to bait potential novel readers (see my post on Marketing and Platform).…[Read more]

Daeus replied to the topic Marketing and platform: what's the best approach? in the forum General Writing Discussions 11 years ago
@Daniel Thompson
You stated we should,”Go crazy and try to gather an audience based on the artistic, creative merit of [our] marketing.”This sounds like a great idea, but I’m wondering exactly what you mean by “artistic creative merit in marketing.” I know you are suggesting being original, but beyond that I’m not sure. What are some examples?

What about Robespierre in “In the reign of terror”? I thought he seemed pretty real, though he still suffered a little from that malady.

That makes sense to me why the guy didn’t grab the spear, at least to a degree. I think I would have gone for it if I knew I could pull it out before the guard got to me. Just make sure your reader knows why he didn’t go for the spear.

Yes! Totally get what you mean.
But you forgot a rule.
The filthy, slimy character with long hands is always Sir Percy in disguise. Without fail.

Yaaaay.
I’m just, so tired.
Oh dear. That’s bad. I didn’t know moose could get tired… is it your head? Isn’t it somewhat painful carrying around those… um… impressive antlers all day?
It’s working at a moose coffee shop 18 hours in two days. Ant the antlers.
Wow… I can see how that would get really old, really fast. But keep it up. Even moose can’t publish without money. And some persons (like that adorable green dragon in the picture to the left of this comment, for example) would be glad to have even that chance to earn a little towards their publishing fund. But ow. I sympathize. If that helps at all.
Since it probably doesn’t… KEEP GOING, EZRA THE MOOSEMAN! DON’T LET A PUNY LITTLE THING LIKE A COFFEE SHOP DEFEAT YOU! YOU KILLED BO BOBO WITH NOTHING MORE THAN A PEN! C’MON, DON’T GIVE UP! YOU CAN DO IT! KEEP GOING!
And if all else fails, pretend you were captured and put in a zoo where you have to serve coffee to everyone who comes to gawk at…[Read more]
Actually I like my job. It’s just that working there a lot is tiring. Fun work. Tiring work. Fun. Tiring.
I wish random customers happy birthday at the drive-thru. It’s funny.
Well that’s good, then. It’s always better if you enjoy your work. Good. I’m glad to hear it.
Really… I am.
Wooooow. Now I see where that moose story stemmed from.
