Kate Flournoy started the topic Vengeance in the forum General Writing Discussions 10 years, 11 months ago
Okay, so I’m reading and absolutely loving ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ right now, and even those of you who haven’t read the book probably know the main theme is vengeance. (I haven’t finished it yet, so no spoilers please!) 😛
Vengeance is a very basic human passion, and all of us struggle with it on some level. It can be as simple as wanting to…[Read more]

Yup… that’s how it works. I suppose we have to learn to accept it. It is what it is. That’s the way of the world. It’s no use crying over spilt milk. If wishes were horses… (or actors, as the case may be).
What— philosophy doesn’t help?

You wrote a book from the POV of a house? Wow! Cool! How did that work out for you? Was it any more difficult than just a regular first person narration?

Oh thanks Mark. You’re so encouraging… so helpful… so wonderfully sympathetic. I just— I don’t know how to thank you. 😛 😛 😛 😉
Candy only goes so far, huh? Hm. I wonder why. 😀
*sighs, drops head in hand and shakes it sadly, tears come to sorrowful brown eyes* I guess it’s just a question of figuring out how to motivate people. Aside…[Read more]

Welcome, Elisabeth! So glad to have you here. You may or may not be aware that most writers are insane, but I’ve taken it upon myself to warn every new forum-er of that fact, and so spare them a very rude awakening when they actually start interacting with all us nutcases on here. So… we’re insane.
But then… I’ve heard that OYAN isn’t…[Read more]

🙂 It’s Frank Peretti. I’ve not read either of those series. What are they about, and what do you like about them?

@mark-kamibaya— AGGGH! But—but—b-b-but but I’m the only one in my family who likes to act! 😛 If I’m holding the camera, who will be Romeo? Okay, I’m actually never doing that role again, because I hate him anyway. It was a school project, which is why I did it. 😛
Also, we live out in the middle of nowhere, and our closest friends are at…[Read more]

Greetings, Alia! Welcome to the Kingdom Pen forum! I also am a homeschooler. I think most of us here are. 🙂
Well… LoTR is my number one favorite story ever, but I haven’t read the Wormling series. What… is it, exactly? Fantasy, Scifi, what?Well, I haven’t seen Doctor Who, but I have seen Star Wars, and I can tell you right now Star Wars is…[Read more]

Okay. That’s a good way to look at it, Daeus. I like that.
@David— Exactly! Government is instituted by God for the protection of the people. It is a blessing. It is something we should cherish and obey.
But… those verses speak generally of government— the concept of government, of being governed, if you will. They speak of government AS…[Read more] -

@David— Hornblower is an absolutely fantastic movie series by A&E. It’s a swashbuckling adventure series set in the Napoleonic wars, and starring Ioan Gruffud.
And… I hope I spelled his name right. The same guy that played William Wilberforce in ‘Amazing Grace’, if you’ve seen that one. Rosey asked because the name of Horatio Hornblower’s…[Read more]

Thanks Hope and Amanda! Oh boy Hope, I completely know what you mean about being practically everything in a production! I’ve never actually done a movie (we don’t have a video camera) but I’ve done plays, and I know what that’s like, believe me.
So you answered a lot of questions I had.
But… I’m never out of questions. That is both a good…[Read more] -

I think Ecclesiastes: 8:5 makes more sense when read with verse 6. To use your translation: Ecclesiastes 8:5-6,
“He who keeps his command will experience nothing harmful;
And a wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment,
6 Because for every matter there is a time and judgment,
Though the misery of man increases greatly.”The phraseology o…[Read more]

Hello after all these weeks. I’m now in the business of resurrecting dead topics. Morbid? Perhaps.
But I’m reading through Ecclesiastes right now, and I came across this passage:
‘Where the word of a king is, there is power; and who may say to him “What are you doing?”
He who keeps his commands will experience nothing harmful; and a wise man’s…[Read more] -

Okay. Gotcha. Thanks for the tips.
Has anyone here ever directed a play or a movie or something? Cause I’m looking for tips about directing, and working with actors, particularly actors who may not want to be actors (aka siblings) or actors who are too shy to make a fool of themselves in front of everybody else, which is basically all acting is.…[Read more]

Um…um…um… okay, I’m fiddling with it, and I’ll fiddle around until I find something to make it work. Thanks!
Oh and also, Hope, will the document allow me to write in it? Is it not specified as read only? I suppose I could always try it and see… but will it let me save anything I type in it?
