@Hope— but I would consider time travel a technological achievement, not magic.
And with the characters coming alive and yelling at their author… take it from an expert… that stuff really happens. Believe me. I know what I’m talking about. 😛
A story like that could just be told from the perspective of the crazy author whose characters are…[Read more] -

Well, no, but your house could burn down. Or you could lose your laptop (or drop it). The big advantage of Dropbox over a thumb drive is that you will have all your text up to the last time you saved your file. I do that probably every 5 min. A thumb drive however, that is an annoyance. I might only save it every week or so and You could write a…[Read more]

Ha! Yeah, I’d better know about this. I completely lost 8 or 9 chapters of my book after dropping my computer. The answer is dropbox. Look no further. It is free and it works great. You don’t have to keep backing your book up as you keep writing either. Once your file is in dropbox, it backs it up every time you save the file. Even if a nuclear…[Read more]

Here’s a question. How would adding fantasy to the real world be any better than just creating your own fantasy world? And might it not actually be worse?

physiognomy – Dumas’ fault.

Okay. I agree. But why? What makes it that way? After all, there is no verse in the Bible that forbids it, is there?
Or is there?
Hm… this comes pretty close. ‘Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.’ And that’s… in Proverbs,…[Read more]

Good thoughts. I especially like the idea of setting up your own small government in a dystopian world. That could be a thing— imagine a book with that as its plotline. A few devoted advocates for law in the midst of a vast sea of anarchy, struggling to bring some order without becoming as tyrannical as the anarchy they are trying to replace. I…[Read more]

I know. I’m so mercenary. 😛 🙂 😉

Okay, I’ve filled my obligations. 😛
Welcome just the same, Ivy! And yeah, fantasy is awesome. That’s primarily what I write. What genre do you most like to write?

I’m back.
Well, where there is no justice there should be some. This is not to say that you should always force justice. When however you live in dystopia, it is probably time to set up your own government, even if it is a very small one. But let us say that won’t or hasn’t worked out. What then? First, it is interesting to note that the bible…[Read more]

Future? Sure. Past? Probably not. History is important. There might be a way though, I just think it is perilous in general.

Okay, so I’ve been in this discussion with a few friends lately, and I was wondering what all of you guys on here thought of this.
Is it a good idea to take our world (planet earth, our solar system, our universe, etc.) and fantasize it? Even add other planets inhabited by extraterrestrial life? Is it a good idea to take something we know is…[Read more]

Wow— that’s quite a word, Tatiana!
I thought of two other good ones, and I think Ezra Wilkinson would agree with me on this one. Existential.
And Crisis. -

Ha! Right. Don’t get me started on the illogicality of the Big Bang theory. I could go on for hours and hours and hours.
Yes, as I worked through this argument on my own several months ago, I realized that really the only logical way to set up a system of powers is the way it happened in our world. Imagine that. One supreme power that created…[Read more]

Hm, that sounds like an interesting one. I don’t know that I’ve encountered that one before. I do definitely think I’d disagree with such a system, from what little you told me about it. It’s not Biblical. It’s not even logically sound.
How can there be two opposing forces within one world, both of equal power? Did the creator of the world…[Read more]

Right— there are things about the Force that I don’t think fit with a Christian worldview. That being said, I disagree (and I love Star Wars, by the way) that because the Force is just a force that anyone can use, that makes it bad.
My objections to the Force lie in that it is not a non-intelligent entity that’s just there for anyone to use. It…[Read more] -

I agree with all of your points, more or less. The only one I might have a problem with is your fourth point. What is your definition of ‘Force’? Is it of some deistic, nonliving but intelligent entity that anyone (good or bad) can access and use? Like in Star Wars, if you’ve seen that?
And have you read the Inheritance Cycle? I ask because…[Read more]
